    This reminds me of my first piano class ten years ago, especially at 4:00, after practicing the technique my Teacher proceed to teach me Level one Piano book Sight reading including all the basic exercises, theories and basic songs. This technique will improve any beginner, for me it took me a month to be able to do all the basic stuff,playing twinkle2 by reading music London bridge song and etc. all absolute beginner should see this video and practice this it may look like nothing but trust me this is the huge thing to being pro n the starter pack.

    A quick tip to find your notes:
    The black keys are in groups of 2 and groups of 3. Refer to the group of 2 as chopsticks and the group of 3 as forks. The white key to the left is the note each word starts with. C is the white key to the left of the chopsticks and the white key to the left of the forks is F. Hope this helps.

      Same here! I quit decades ago and started back up again a few months ago. I have a messed up schedule because I work nights, so I've been learning from CZcams videos, a course on Udemy, and some method books instead of taking actual lessons. Soon, I'll take an introductory lesson somewhere to have someone weed out the bad habits I'm surely developing by learning unsupervised, and I'll just do that every once in awhile. In the meantime, I was looking forward to watching a different CZcamsr learn to play using one of the popular piano apps, but she quit posting after 6 or 7 videos, so I think she gave up. I hope this woman hangs in there so that I can take encouragement from watching her.

    You know I have looked on youtube and some people have the wrong idea about nails beeing cut. I heard this one lady and she said that she would not cut her nails. Hahahaha!!!! Well, I replied back, and told her as a pianist, you need to give that up. You need to cut your nails. So yes that is so true. This is one thing about beeing. Pianist that people don’t get sometimes. They need to sacrifice some beautiful things for beeing a star! I totally am their. Beeings a pianist myself, I cut my nails even though they are. Short. I don’t want to have them grow. Then, I can’t play good and efficient. So as a pianist so true!! Keep those nails cut.

    I'm a totally beginner piano player and I love your videos Lisa but obviously Kaitlyn was already familiar with a piano. She plays C, D, E, F, G, F, E, D, C very easily! And, how she goes from C, D, E, F, G, F, E, D, C at 5:25 to a piece at 7:38 without you teach her? I thought you would show us the full lesson you gave Kaitlyn but she has already returned (after a week) playing chords and a song from Sara Bareilles ("She used to be mine").😔

      @PianoteOfficial  Před 4 lety +2

      That's the power of practice! And she's learning online through www.pianote.com
      So that first lessons was where she learned the keys and note names (which doesn't take long at all!) and she learned the chord shapes. Then she went away and practiced for a week and came back ready to learn that song. Getting better at the piano happens during practice, not the lessons!

    Very good 1st lesson except for saying that your fingers must be in a standing position. I have been a percussionist and I have had my numerous band's featuring my dear late great pianist Frank Antico he is on CZcams and he played fingers flat and he was told by a very prominent teacher at age 5 that he's got perfect pitch not relative pitch which I do have,but his teacher told him that if you're playing like that with fingers flat out and it works for you obviously then keep playing the way you do!! I was told upon being heard @ a piano store slash school by a wonderful teacher that she never saw anyone with the dexterity and finger agility along with speed that I should continue lessons ,and I told her I am a self taught multi instrumentalist and I'm playing with fingers flat which she said and I quote her, you keep playing the way you played just now and like you told me Jerry the finger drumming you play is the reason why you have an uncanny gift that by yourself you'll be a consummate pianist it just will take you longer to accomplish your goals on this instrument but I can't deny that you've got a sheer unique talent to become great!! I compose very complex tunes using abnormal groupings like quintuplets, septuplets,nontuplets etc, and I played for Mr Barr music teacher in high school and he's a monster jaxx pianist upon hearing Frank Antico he said omg where did you find this reincarnation of Art Tatum! And how are playing 7s,5s,triplets and more faster than I can?? He was baffled, I had just one lesson with Frank who was blind since birth and he was impressed as much as Phil Barr.Please note that in drum lessons if my student plays his or her rudiments an holding the sticks in an unorthodox fashion but he or she has great stick controll and the likes then there is no way to hold the sticks in the 2 ways one is told are the only way to hold them! That's a rarity 30 ,40 years ago but now drummers are doing amazing things with non traditional methods for the lack of a better term and now all the very famous teacher, players now say there's no proper way to hold the sticks ,it's whatever comes more easily for the individual. I know this isn't the Norm but it's all true.peace and I'm leaving my # which will be changed by Dec 5th so call before then for a brief call my e.st Thanks much and for Certain this was a great lesson you gave overall!!631,219,0443...Please when and if you can call don't be shy!! I absolutely love your style of presentation. It's so approachable and non-intimidating. I've been playing keyboard for many years. I started on accordion when I was 6. I graduated to organ when I was 10 (but stopped taking lessons when I was 16 because there didn't seem to be any music for organ that was relevant for me). Later I started teaching myself piano technique mostly using synthesizers. I love to just turn on some popular music and play along by ear (I can usually figure out the key signature and melody as well as the chords). Some of my piano idols are Elton John, Billy Joel, and Bruce Hornsby. I would love to improve my technique, especially in the left hand. What do you suggest?

    What sheet music do you use? Or do you use a book. I tried to follow along with the sheet music but it doesn’t match up.

    OMGoodness, having so much happing at home and Katlyns second lesson has given me hope. Can I ask how to learn the chords as you’re teaching us the scales as you have with boot camp. Sorry for being a baby about this but chronic pain does that to me. I’ve learned that you never ever can read someone’s mind so that’s pretty good in my case, the whipping post here.
    Ok. Where’s your second video with Kaytlyn.? Can’t find it.

      Kaitlyn's second lesson is in this video. You'll see more of her in our next VLOG (in December).
      I'm sorry I don't completely understand the question about chords!

    • @MyGully1
      @MyGully1 Před 4 lety

      With left hand boot camp you teach by using a repetitive succession of the c chord (sorry if I haven’t name c chord properly) and then a progression going up the keyboard adding in f sharp. After practicing that I wandered thru my children’s old piano lesson book and saw a number of chords. Maybe you can show a lesson doing a similar repetition. Argh... I don’t know. I just know your boot camp is helping my confidence and muscle. I am not the best yet but feeling better about my ability. Thank you a thousand million times for your replies and support.

    Hello! I am Morgan from the Philippines. I've been trying to learn how to play piano by myself for weeks already because I want to play the piano for our church choir. I just want to ask if it will take a year or more for me to learn playing the piano? Thank you very much. 🙂

    • @PianoteOfficial
      @PianoteOfficial  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Morgan! It's possible to make a lot of progress in a year, but having a teacher will be the best way to learn (either online or in person).

    Hey I am a beginner. Can I use finger no. 234 to play chords instead of 135 as I have a big hand. And it feels better.

    • @PianoteOfficial
      @PianoteOfficial  Před 4 lety +1

      You must have a big hand! Lucky! The reason 1-3-5 is so good is that it sets you up really well to be able to change chords quickly when you start playing chord inversions, and it allows you to start playing riffs and fills once you get to that level.
      So while 2-3-4 may "seem" easier now, I worry it will make life harder for you down the road.

    Do you have any lesson on left hand going to vacation 9:45.. How to improve it..?

    • @PianoteOfficial
      @PianoteOfficial  Před 4 lety

      We don't have a video lesson on that, but it's definitely something to try and remember. Doing some left-hand exercises will help train your hand to stay in the ready position (and not on vacation!).
      We have a few left-hand lessons that might help:

      Pianote thank you so much, I will figure it out somehow, it’s all new for me, maybe not all but embarrassed how new somethings are. I am trying so hard to make the claw a habit but with egb chord my first finger points out to the air with my little finger as well. Ok, you are going to say practice practice practice wahhhhh...
      yes I am feeling much more familiar. Really want you to know, thankyou. Going to tie my fingers in position

    Fingernails!
    Many have commented on jazz great Art Tatum's flat-fingered playing and one day I noticed on a CZcams close-up that he had the same problem that I have. The nail plate almost overlaps the very edge of the finger tip making trimming the nail back virtually impossible.
    You have to do what you have to do.
