    The Araimandi, half squat position with legs turned-out is explained in this video, by Rukmini Vijaykumar
    The Raadha Kalpa Method is a comprehensive training program for Bharatanatyam devised by Rukmini Vijayakumar through her years of research on the mechanics of movement within the Bharatanatyam vocabulary. The philosophy of the training system lies in developing a neutral body and mind such that the dancer is able to be versatile and malleable within performance.
    The program is primarily offered at the LshVa Studios, run by the Raadha Kalpa Dance company in Bangalore.
    The online program is now offered on a streaming platform.
    Subscribe to revitalise your Bharatanatyam and learn about alignment, injury prevention and developing strength, stamina, stability, articulation and imagination within your Bharatanatyam practise.

    When I learned Bharatha nAtyam ( between 1955 and 1960) I was taught to keep my feet in a 'V' shape. Later I was surprised to watch some dancer maintain 180 degrees between their feet. Some dancers push their chest forward and their hind quarters backwards. I am amazed by all these modification. Maybe I belong to an old school! But human body must not be contorted into unnatural angles and positions or the body may suffer permanent damage. "Chuvar irundhaal thaan chiththiram!" :)

      @visalakshik.raman.6278 Před 3 lety +15

      KathakaLi artists can maintain the 180 degrees between their thighs as well as their feet. But their hip joints are loosened by the application of oil and a massage with the right pressure given by the experts. I have watched the scary videos of ballet dancers using the wall and the floor to forcefully loosen their hip joints. I guess human beings can do anything they really want to do.

      @@visalakshik.raman.6278 Who wants to do the 180° feet position in Araimandi? And when? the who may not always be a particular dancer with her or his interpretation of the song, but might be a pressure from the public or a problem in translation of the written acient traditions. That without counting misoginistic men(don't even get me started about ballet) and other horrible people.
      the question about when is that, I claim, ideals have to be though of with time. not only in the sense that in a single presentations having different feet angles for the Araimandi might be ideal, but also in the multiple senses my claim about time and ideals might have.
