I would love a video for each of those areas on how to actually declutter them when we are ready!

Clothes were easy for me. I had already decided to only keep clothes that look good on me and that fit. I had stored some things away for a while. It made it easier to get rid of them when the time came
Whatever didn't get washed goes. Same with the dishes. If it's not getting washed it's not getting used.
Papers and art supplies are so much harder for me,

I’m so with you on cards. It took me a while to get to them but when I did, I kept the ones that really spoke to me. Purging old photos and photo albums are another tough one, not just the photos on the phone.

The best thing that has helped me declutter items from my business that I had to close in 2020 is that 2 times a year I make themed baskets for Rainbow Connection our local charity that helps grant a terminally ill child's wish. Just today I donated 6 baskets worth $1300 to this non profit. I was able to declutter hundreds of items and all for a great cause. Last count estimate for my declutter was 10-12,000++ !! I got ruthless two days ago a grabbed a large black bag and a large trash bag and anything I've tripped over, haven't touched in a year or two... all of those items were put in trash or donated to another non-profit local organization from my church that gives the items to those in need for free. I'd say I'm at about 60 to 70 ish % decluttered after the last few months. 💥❤👌

I think one reason it was hard for me to let go of unfinished projects, especially in the beginning of the decluttering process, was that I thought I might finally be able to get to it once everything was out of the way. Similarly, with decor, I didn't know which things I really wanted to keep and use because there was too much stuff in the way.
It was stressful to not be able to get stuff like that out of the way, but as I continued decluttering everything else, I started gaining clarity. I could better envision what I wanted. Now when I pick up something and wonder about keeping it and using it, if I start feeling anxious, I've learned that is a signal. My body is telling me to let that thing go. (Sometimes it's the whole fantasy self and all the supplies that went with it.) If even the thought of working on that project or doing that hobby sends my body into anxiety, why keep it? Why stress myself by forcing myself to do it? Unless it's saving lives, it's not worth it. That has helped me tremendously in being able to let some of the harder stuff go. I couldn't do that in the beginning. It's much easier now...if not on the first pass, on the second or third.

I think I started just making a search for obvious trash or no brainer items. I made a pass thru the whole house like that and wound up focusing on the kitchen. After that “round one,” I wound up with an entire room full of donations. About 5 truckloads later and the sixth well on its way, I find myself being able to keep up and breathing a lot easier now. I guess for me it’s like a couple of months in so far. 😬 I think the main perk tho is now I have all these ideas seems like and I think really? Getting rid of clutter made me be able to actually clear my head and make more space for more creativity and better ideas. Lol. Go fig. Plus seems like when I used to seem to lack energy for daily tasks, now I seem to have extra energy and wonder what extra “project” I should use that energy on. Lol. I don’t feel “bored” per se. I just marvel at how I’m able to be in this kind of head space even. lol.

I don’t know if this has crossed your mind but have you ever thought of writing a book on decluttering? I absolutely love all your decluttering videos and ideas. As I’m currently on my own decluttering journey your techniques and tips have been so helpful! Thank you for your motivation and ideas, it’s much appreciated! If you do ever decide to write and publish a book I will definitely buy it!

Lol, I always start with clothes, jump to books, and then work on bathroom stuff. Jewelry would be super sentimental for me cause most of it belonged to other family members that have passed.

I did tackle clothing first, but not clothing I had in my wardrobe. I started with clothing I had stored in boxes and totes from high school and middle school. And since I did that after having kids, it was easy because most of it didn't fit anyways. I waited until later to tackle my actual wardrobe though, because like you said, it is difficult.

I have had great success with Marie Kondo in many areas….but I’m so with you when you say clothes can be incredibly hard and don’t start there like she advises. I suspect she hasn’t had a lot of weight issues in the past because there are so many of us who HAVE fluctuated in weight and it makes clothes so, so emotive. When I Kon-Mari’d my house clothes were almost the last thing I did. They were worse than sentimental items because I’m not MASSIVELY sentimental but I’m really really emotional about my weight and how I look. Also struggled with items that I was holding onto because “they might come in useful one day”, and not because of any sentimental attachment. So it’s really hard to know where to start when you might not “love” your Tupperware but you don’t want to get rid of anything useful. Thankfully I’ve almost got my house to a place that I’m happy with….just need to stop buying plants, oops!

the only things I have trouble with are old photos from my childhood and my first giant stuffed animal everything else is easy for me to get rid of or replace. If I haven't used or worn something in months it most likely goes unless it's shorts or pajamas.

Nearing the last 1st decanter sweep.. the hardest is definitely my grown kid's pic's, artwork, newspaper clippings from their childhood. I'm making a small tote for each child. Ugh.. yes!!! Greeting card's.. I am trying your suggestion of one per person and hand written notes.. so far I have gotten rid of quite a bit!

I would just about guarantee your kids don’t care about all that stuff. My mom started loading me up with boxes from my childhood 25 or so years ago. I think I finally got rid of it all this summer. I know I didn’t expect her to hang onto it either. I finally decided to keep a few childhood toys and books and trash the rest of it.

Craft supplies, sewing supplies, cross stitching supplies. Nope. I could not have started with any of that. I will eventually go through it all, but it's a lot. It's overwhelming. I have recently decided to make myself basic kits and let the rest go. Meanwhile, my emotions and my brain are processing, catching up with my decision. By the time I get to it, hopefully I will be ready to deal with it and follow through with my plan.

It’s funny how we are all so different. Clothes for me were not hard at all! For me, candles and body care and wax are my most challenging area for decluttering. I’m doing a gradual declutter of just being super conscious that I’m bringing in less than I’m using up in these areas. Even if it’s only one less, at least it’s progress!

Kids art work is hard for me too! Also, because I swear they are always watching when I throw something away! They seem to catch me nearly every time. So, I started keeping a bin in our basement and just toss it all in there for the school year. At the end of the year I go through it all and it’s actually SO much easier to decide what to get rid of! I just did this and realized I had like 50 “Love you mommy” type notes.

I want to replace some glass food storage containers. They all have plastic lids that are splitting on the sides and many don’t seal anymore. I would like to get the ones with the wooden lids with the silicone seals. I would declutter the glass dishes and toss the lids. In your opinion, is this a good swap?
