Thanks James. Really good tip on keeping the 2nd finger anchored and using the 3rd finger to come down at the end of the riff.

Paul McCartney didn't figure out this bass riff, James, he pinched it from Chuck Berry's Talkin' About You.

Now I didn’t know that! Do you know chuck berry’s bass player was at that time?

@@ebassguitar Don't really know but Chucks original was released on Chess records in 1961. The regular session bassist with Chess was Louis Satterfield but Willie Dixon also played bass on some recordings. Take your pick!

Yes, they’re weren’t great at crediting musicians in those days! :-)

Excellent idea. In the same spirit as the wildly popular Agile/Scrum way of managing projects. The simplified riff is the MVP or minimum viable product. A place to satisfy the user for now, but also a foundation from which to grow it.

This just popped up in my recommends. Must be because i was checking this out elsewhere last week but i am subbed to you. That second riff in A actually starts on the low A and not the high one. AND....is that a Marcus Miller fretless 5 in the background on the intro? Have a fretless V7 rosewood that is amazing!

That’s such a good bassline, but it was actually played with a pick. Macca almost always used a pick for bass.

Interesting idea and a very useful alternative strategy. Thanks.
Just one other thing - you have a bad habit of totally withdrawing and curling up your left little finger instead of leaving it over the fretboard ready for the next note. That's wasting a lot of energy and taking up unnecessary time. You could be just as fast with less effort!

Yes, im aware I don’t have flawless technique… but had everything I need to hold down a a professional career in the uK for the best part of 20 years. So I know what I do works :-)
It’s some thing I’ll work on consciously If there’s music where I need the next musical gear!
