Oh ! You guys definitely need to get this moving under its own power then try it in the water ! This is the kind of things we love ! This project is very cool so please keep going with the next two or more if necessary but don’t stop until it’s even painted, this could be your back woods and swamp search buggy 👍👍👍

I'd love to see these 3 Genies from the beet bottle actually tell ppl what the hell they R working on... Polaris made the their MUD DUCK we had one on our farm cost $4,000 back in 1973 but it was a twin stick on gunwhale to port and one side of the driver and it sat 6 very comfortably. The back 2 seats had the engine dog house. The engine was a 4cly inline I think it was 4Cyl Ford motor... I could be wrong but it was this bright metallic red color like a boat would be. It was much much larger than that one they have. Ours did have a steel underneath for mounting a transmission and twin props, My dad and uncle talked about it all the time. Ours did run & drive and floated... The sticks turned the wheels was how directional control was made/

My grandfather had one, he owned a car repair shop and junkyard, it was 18 acres of car's back in the 30s through the 70s. I will never forget the time he took me in the water with it, I was around 7 years old. There was a TV show back then called "the banana splits" they had one as well.
Edit: I'm now in my late 60 s. It was a great time to be alive back then. It was called an Artic cat. Git er dun boys.

I say continue now that it will run (that's the hard part) chains are easy to make and the most expense will be tires. Start with 4 (one each corner) if you're nervous about it. These are generally collectable and if it will run and drive and float...you won't take a loss of money and probably make a nice profit if you sell it. Thanks for sharing this one (I'm a small engine guy and restore old and oddball karts and bikes)

Well, we've all sat and watched it this far so I guess I for one would like to see the project be taken to the next step of making it all work. THEN try to float it. It's a fun project, but probably not a money maker. Sometimes you just have to do a project for fun and to gain knowledge. This could be one of them.

I'm 62, I raced a Attex 6x6 when I was 16. That's a borg wanner trans. If it's low on fluid it takes auto trans fluid. On top on both sides where the cables are is the shifter. Forward and back, middle is neutral. The chain you can get form the farm store. Mine had 50, yours looked like 40. Mine ran 60 mph with a 440 twin. Good luck. 👍

@Zach Churchill that's cool. Mine was a 400 twin, then we put the 440 in and moved up a class racing. My first one was Terra Tiger 295cc. All my motors were Rockwell 2 cycles. What's your 550? One guy in the open class had a 850 3 cylinder, it was fast. I raced here in Illinois. If you go on CZcams you can find some racing from Ohio.

Had or should I say? My father was given a terrain tiger 6x6 in the late 60's because the original owner flipped while driving in a terraced cornfield and didn't keep the power up and it slid backwards and he over reacted, punched the gas causing it to flip over landing on both of them breaking her shoulder and his forearm! The centrifugal clutch can be MOFO going up hill underpowered! But it was a hoot in the winter especially after Fox River froze over! Hell we even hunted out of it for pheasant in the test corn the Quaker Oats Company left standing during the winter in N. Barrington at Kelsey Rd & Rt. 14 that tiger could go anywhere! It was badass! Great Find!

The Hustler was made by the Hustler Corp. out of Jonesborro, Ark. The Jet drive was a factory Option. The engine was a Canadian Curtis wright air cooled . The Tire pressure was 2.5 to 4 lbs and could be patched with slime. The handle on the right side engaged the jet drive. You have most of the parts and rails for the optional wind shield. I really enjuyed mine which was a 1973 model . It worked Great in and out of the water.

That's the first one I have seen with a jet pump for water use. Smartest idea anyone could have come up with on one of those things. Go for it. I'm sure you will find lots of leaks... axle shafts etc when you hit the water, but it will be worth it. Those things are worth a lot in running condition if you can even find one. At least that is the case around here.

Hard to tell from watching a video but that looks like #50 roller chain. You can get it at Purvis in Paris or Mt Pleasant. Just take a piece of the old chain with you and they will be able to match it.
The sprockets should have a part number on them as well. It would be something like 50B13. The first number is the series of chain, B is the hub style and the last number is the number of teeth. If you find the correct series of chain, you can order a roll on Amazon

You were absolutely correct when you took the top layer off. The engine and torque converter are the same style as a Snowmobile. (I know, you are in Texas! 😂). I don't recognize that from any old sleds I have seen, but it looks like it is from the sixties. It may be a Sachs? The tire treads are backwards. (I know, getting ahead of myself). Spray the rubber trim with Armour All. It may help soften it up. Just thought I would mention these things while I was thinking of them. The jet drive looks interesting! I can't wait to see how they have that hooked up. I hope you can free everything up, that is a really cool looking machine!

I like small engine stuff especially, something unique like this. I know its a bunch of money but I would like to see it run/move again.

I've got a couple of Hustlers but don't have the jet pump on either. I have a standard model and a 980 hi tub, both are later models with poly bodies. I also have an Attex, a few Cushman Tracksters, Surtrek and a couple Catagators. You've got a CCW 2 stroke and a t-20 transmission. I'd swap out the engine with a 4 stroke. Parts for the CCW are hard to find, if at all. Parts for the t-20 are still available or should I say, easier to find. Good project and a $100.00... That's a great price! You definitely need to finish this project.

I'm looking forward to you guys moving ahead with this project. I think the "fun factor" will be fairly high with these ATVs - and once the first one is running and moving, the second one may be easier to work on.
