    I love that cookbook! The first couple of recipes I tried it from it were a bit so-so but I'm glad I gave it another chance because it ended up being one of my favorite cookbooks and there are some recipes that I make very often like the Mega-Clump Granola or the Moroccan Stew.
    I also highly recommend the roasted cauliflower with the walnut sauce. I make the sauce with red onions and it becomes such a pretty pink color. That sauce is gold. I never pre-cook the onion and only warm up the whole thing on the stove 'cause I'm lazy that way and it still turns out perfectly every time.
    The salted caramel shake is also a huge favorite at home (although it's getting kind of cold for it now).
    Her smoky marinade for the eggplant bacon is the only marinade I use for smoky stuff now. It's perfect. And speaking of basics, her pine nut parm is also excellent.
    The Chili, Creamy Quinoa, Eggplant Bolognese, Winter Vegetable Mash, Sesame Granola Bars, Fudgy Brownies (so good!) are also very good.
    The Chickpea Scramble is a favorite but I'm usually way too lazy and short on time in the morning to eat anything other than my precious oatmeal.
    Haven't tried the cabbage but you make me want to make it asap.
    Also, I highly recommend Nina Olsson's books: Bowls of Goodness and Feasts of Veg. They're vegetarian but many recipes are straight out vegan and the ones that are not always have vegan subs explained. She's a goddess of flavor and I think you'd love her cooking.

      Wow thank you so much for all the recommendations! Seems like we've got lots of delicious options to try next :D We'll also check out Nina's book.

    This is by far my favorite vegan cookbook!!! I find this cookbook is a nice push towards a elevated, sophistcated plant forward cusine. Mock meats and cheese are fun and all, but I find cooking these recipes for guests really wow's them if they're omivores.

      It is so good! Just wanna try all the recipes :D What's your favourite from the book? Or maybe the one you've made the most?

      Nothing I've made from this book has been a dud, and I've cooked amost 2/3rd of it. The Tandoori portobellos are probably my favorite (if done on the grill) - I always double the marinade (and baste the mushrooms during cooking) and serve it over mashed potatos!! But staples that I make constantly are the vanilla coconut coffee creamer, its so dreamy in coffee! And the mega clump granola is by far my favorite granola recipe EVER that is always in my pantry. Keep up the great work ladies!

    I love this cookbook so much! I found it randomly in a used bookshop this spring and it's been my go to book for new recipes this summer. The multigrain pancakes are probably the most successful vegan pancake I've made, and the balsamic beets are so simple but really good.

      It's a good one for sure! Maybe we'll have to try those recipes sometime, they sound tasty

    Great review. I think a great way to make maple anything is to add dates. I will try the recipe book. Thank you for making reviews. I’m disappointed in purchasing then donating previous books to the thrift store.

    Unrelated to the video but in Canada do you have maple syrup on tap? Like I imagine that right next to your kitchen faucet there is another one that pours a never ending flow of maple syrup...........

    Loved this Ladies! Dev, gotta agree cabbage is simply delicious. Cabbage soup? Amazing and so versatile. Mmmm, gonna air fry it first, brush on the sauce and air fry again. Obsessed 😃. The other recipes looked wonderful.

    • @TwoMarketGirls
      @TwoMarketGirls  Před 6 lety

      Thank you! Air frying it would be very interesting, we might have to try that too!

      Also, I want to try the cracker recipe, but use a legume flour. My go to is usually chickpea flour, but maybe try some other kind. Love the chicken noodle soupish flavor reference from Dev. Who doesn’t/didn’t like that?

    I don’t know this book or the recipe you used for the caramel, but I have made caramel out of coconut milk and I know you have to cook it down a lot! My caramel did brown too and taste more like it, but it did have that slight coconut flavor. But I did not use maple syrup, I probably used coconut sugar or something. I will check out the book. 👌🏼✌🏼

    • @TwoMarketGirls
      @TwoMarketGirls  Před 6 lety +1

      That's good to know about cooking down the coconut milk. We weren't sure about the process, so thank you! Let us know if you try anything from the book :D

    Since becoming vegan, I tend not to differentiate what I eat when. I can have leftover dinner from tonight for breakfast tomorrow and it doesn't bother me. I never used to be that way.

    Good review but too much smacking, super distracting. Maybe when you edit, play music during chewing and tasting. Outside of that, liked your review of the First Mess Cookbook.

    No. Not everyone loves cabbage. That’s for sure. Hubby can’t stand coleslaw. 😆 I’m good with cabbage then it gave me bad stomach cramps. 😞 Too bad cuz that cabbage recipe looks good!
