  • Secret Invasion reviews for the latest Disney+ Marvel MCU show are in and the Director calls them mixed. Generous description of the conversation around Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, who was utterly overshadowed by Emilia Clarke in the series. But is the director Ali Selim putting himself into the shoes of Nick Fury, is Secret Invasion a real life allegory for more than the main plot? and Is Marvel's Secret Invasion worth watching on Disney+?

Secret Invasion finale reviews caused multiple more interviews with the director to come out, so that even when I was out, I'm sucked back in. With the Marvel actors and the writers on strike, directors are the only ones still allowed out for promotion, but in this case maybe less is more.
Every interview he gave came out with new pieces of information that made the show even worse. Whether it's him not understanding his own MCU show, or proving the most cynical assumptions an understatement. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

'Best Day Ever'? Didn't Emelia Clarke say that about GoT when asked about season 8? It's obviously her code-phrase for 'yeah its a piece of sh!t -sorry'. Also as for Selim - he thinks his making the show is a 'dialogue' where he puts it out and doesn't see or listen to what the audience thinks, and then when they respond to it, he still doesn't listen. Yeah... sorry, dude - that's not a dialogue. What a clueless idiot. They go for activists and diversity-hires and this is what we get.

Makes perfect sense Hollywood wants to replace writers with AI apart from the fortune they'd save.

You know I was thinking last night and all this mess could have been avoided by one simple scene at the end of Endgame. Have Tony turn into a Skrull after he died. This not only ensures Tony is still alive somewhere, but can be a built in explanation as to why the A team isn't present and we only have the D team now. All the big heroes have been Skrulled and we're left with the low-levels to solve and clean up the mess. This would open the avenue for the Marvels to actually be successful and wouldn't have relegated an awesome storyline to a terrible tv show about Fury mackin on alien dudes. Imagine that moment, we're all crying with the cast as Tony dies, everyone says their goodbyes and slowly he starts transforming and turning green. That woulda been epic. Just my opinion anyway

    Disney's business model:
Step 1. Pay billions of dollars for properties that only have value because of their fan bases.
Step 2. Hire people to create content for said IP not based on merit but solely on their politics and their identity.
Step 3. Create content that said fanbase doesn't like.
Step 4. Blame or state you don't care about the fans when the content bombs.
    Step 5. ???
    Step 6. Profit.
I still can't figure out why Disney is having such a tough time financially. 🤔

IMO that’s due to the “creatives” that the franchises are handed over to. The executives decide to buy IPs with existing fan bases, to sell stuff to those fans. The writers & directors, however, despise those fans, the source material and the fundamental assumptions & tropes of the genre so they take great satisfaction in crapping on them. Same thing happened in the comics - the writers don’t enjoy reading superhero comics so they turned everything into self-insert slashfic , or yaoi/yuri comics. The executives must be more afraid of HR than they are of the accountants, otherwise these clowns would be fired for destroying formerly-profitable IPs.

Dude that's not even the problem. The story is not boring, it simply just makes no sense whatsoever. Like it was told by a drunken sailor and then written down by a ninth grader then read to you by a toddler. The script does irrevocable harm retroactively across previous movies than any other. I give you one example, G'aia and Gavik turned into skrulls by infusing the DNA of all of the superheroes so they gain their powers. Yet, some of the powers that they display are NON DNA related like the power of the God of Thunder... What you think Asatru "magic" can't tell if someone is not Thor that you can just replicate his DNA and all the powers of the God of Thunder be granted unto you? That's just one, there are countless. And what about the consequences that G'aia is now the strongest in the universe? What will become of the technology now that it seems to be possible to embed superhero power to anyone? Boring is the least of its problem. And we haven't even got to the refugee-alien underlying theme analogy that undermine refugees everywhere.

In The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson wrote a conclusive end to the Star Wars universe, destroying all the setup from the previous movie, and making it so some random kid has the force at the end. I'm no economist, but my conspiracy theory is this had a lot to do with America's decade and a half of zero or near-zero interest rates. Corporations like Disney could borrow billions and only have to worry about paying back those billions, plus maybe $50 or $100 million in interest over FIFTEEN years (something they could easily do, considering ONE hit film like GotG3 made them $250 million in profit in 3 months). That all sounds like a lot to you & I, but for a corporation worth ~$50 billion it was a trivial amount. It's like offering a cardiologist who makes $250k/year a $1,000,000 loan for a house and then saying they would only need to pay the bank $1,100,000 spread out over 30 years. Who would turn down that deal? It's basically free money. Hopefully the rising interest rates will put a stop to it.

Seeing it like that gave it a lot of tension for me specially at the end of the penultimate episode, I got hyped for the final. Then the final hit and I realized all the excitement I felt wasn't because of the writing because the show stopper episode where I was expecting Fury to actually handle things and where I was expecting the budget to be with a massive finish, just fell completely flat. Turned out the story I was making in my head was better than the one they wanted to tell.

How did an entire generation of writers come to the conclusion that to write what's important to them they must jettison all of the rules and principles of a character, narrative, and storyline? Writers, since time immemorial, have always used their own concerns and lives when writing. "High Noon" is a classic Western that's about the McCarthy era and what was going on in modern culture and politics at the time (the writer was blacklisted). The writer was limited by the tropes of the genre and, boy, did he and the director create something memorable (and personal). By the glorious grace of the Muses, the greatest creativity and satisfying entertainment happen within strictures, limits, and expectations
New writers, however, appear to be lazy, self-indulgent and obtuse. They don't have a handle on the concept of creativity. If an audience is not grabbed by the throat by your efforts, it is up to you to figure out how to do better. It's not the audience's job to do your work for you. It's common sense that if your work doesn't speak to an audience YOU need to reassess, because snaring the audience is your one and only job. (Although it would be nice if you also add something glorious to the culture with your efforts.)

So, you could have a broken Nick Fury here in the show, but at the same time be STILL the powerful hero if the situation calls for one. Secret Invasion was really unexplainably bad. They fundamentally didn’t understand the Nick Fury character or what it means to be a veteran spy.
They have a very superficial understanding of how a spy operates, like planting small cameras in secret places. Sure, spies use gadgets but that’s a very shallow understanding of what spying is. They don’t understand the psychological aspects of espionage.
At several points Nick Fury loses his temper and f*cks off his relationships with people. A veteran spy would never do that. When Talos reveals that there are millions of Skrulls and Nick Fury throws a tantrum about it, and stops talking to Talos, it shows that the show runners don’t even understand that espionage is about gaining and leveraging information. Even if the information was very bad news, a good spy wouldn’t turn on someone who was giving them important information. They can feel a certain way about it, but they wouldn’t lose their sh!t and have a piss party about their emotions.
Don’t creat a spy thriller if you don’t understand what spies do.

Its just sad that people who are just posting story ideas and genre info off the top of their heads in a YT comments section have more compelling ideas and understand the subject matter better than people who's job it is to do the research and professionally write.
I've honestly always loved to write but never thought I was talented enough to pursue it as anything other than a hobby but after watching the shitshow thats Hollywood for the past 5 to 10 years I'm thinking I've vastly underestimated myself.

It sounds like they were trying to screw over Blade, by trying to insert a female character that would be the bestest evar. The problem (for Marvel, not us) is that, for Blade himself, they'd hired Mahershala Ali, who's gotten a number of big awards and had an expectation that HE would be the star. He was also annoyed that it had minimal action- sounds like Secret Invasion's problem, lots of drama with little action. So they've been reworking the script for awhile now.

At the same time when you are dealing with an established IP you have a certain obligation when it comes to staying faithful to the spirit of it. The middle of the road ones tend to be the majority view, and by paying attention to those you gain the highest chance of "doing right" by your audience. Endgame was the end for me as far as Marvel goes, but Guardians 3 I considered the ending to their trilogy , and outside the "wider world" of the MCU. Everything since Endgame has been a dumpster fire, and thanks to Disparu "taking one for the team" I haven't had to suffer thru the stupidity. Pretty convenient that Thor fucked off to the far side of the galaxy, and Banner left Earth for the 12th dimension or whatever. I mean, even Dr. Strange could’ve been in it. THE WITCHER SEASON 2 ,
one of my biggest problem with season 2 was that i was looking for character interactions & some good dialog but nobody talked about anything except for some witty small talk. i blame the writers because they had an opportunity for some character development & wasted it. they didn't development CIRI & GERALT relationship in the right way when they had the opportunity. the writers rushed to get to KAER MORHEN when they didn't need to. they should have taken their time to let CIRI & GERALT build a relationship. don't even get me started on the on the fact that they skipped the time when CIRI was a child [ 6 or 8 years old ] & GERALT saved her. it was the first time , they met. how could the writers skip that. the writers completely character assassinated YENNEFER by having her betray CIRI & GERALT. i don't care if she changed her mind & saved her in the end. none of YENNEFER choices or actions make any sense in season 2. there no way that YENNEFER would ever allow any child to get possessed just to get her magic back. she might do something like that to an adult but never a child. i can't understand why YENNEFER would save CAHIR , i can see someone like TRISS not wanting to murder CAHIR but i don't see YENNEFER being bothered about killing some Nilfgaardian she doesn't know or care about. plus i'm shocked that GERALT didn't kill YENNEFER for putting CIRI in so much danger. that's really out of character for him. its really weird that he's so forgiving at the end of season 2. i will be the first to admit i don't like YENNEFER after she left her magic school. i really liked her character when she a hunch back. she interesting & not such a bitch. it seems like instead of trading her womb for her looks , she traded her ability to have kids to be a bitch. i don't have a problem with her being sassy & a slight bitch but her being queen bitch all the time makes it seem like her only character trait. i don't know what GERALT see in her honestly. even in the books & games , they have nothing in common other than CIRI. a child is not enough to make a relationship work. i have no clue why the writers killed ESKEL. they brought in a bunch of new witchers in season 2 but choose to kill ESKEL. instead of killing a new witcher off. that's nonsensical
