    Also Playbill: I know!!! How about the ensemble girl of JCS?

    • @GraingerPage99
      @GraingerPage99 Před 4 lety +6

      To be fair, the *looks* were what had to be iconic. Some main characters have a mainly average look to them that you wouldn't recognise. Also JCS is just super cool😅

    • @musicirene
      @musicirene Před 5 lety +37

      To be fair, theatre make up doesn't need to be as precise. People will look at you from a greater distance so details aren't that important. But nowadays, with recordings and photographs being made all the time, makeup, wigs and costumes are handled differently. I work in opera, where the makeup from 30 years ago is vastly different from the techniques and effects we use now.

    A lot of people mentioned the eyeliner looked messy which is true for close up makeup. For something like theater that's far away and heavily lit stage makeup can look messier than anyone would wear in a photoshoot or the street. They also put on makeup faster.

    So with more simple makeup looks, like say in Mean Girls the musical, do the actors do the makeup themselves or is there always a makeup artist?

    • @TheEmzBemz
      @TheEmzBemz Před 5 lety +54

      the actors do the makeup themselves for most shows, even the ones that seem more advance. They will have lessons where they are taught how to do the look. Even in a show like Cats where the looks are advanced, the actors are taught to do the makeup themselves.

      Lydia Smith the makeup he designed was probably for a different production of Into the Woods, not necessarily when Bernadette was the Witch. And they just played Last Midnight from the OG Bway recording that just so happened to be Bernadette Peters (cause that’s the only version there is in official audio form if that makes sense) :)
