I would argue that the women's rights movement has never had anything to do with making women independent, or equal. It is about trying to make us men finally recognize that they are independent and equal, and have always been.
Believe it or not that's progress. When I was at school in the 80s in the UK the girls were not allowed to wear trousers no matter how cold. Knee length skirts and white knee length socks. White blouse. Blue blazer. Every single kid. We tend to have school uniforms here even in a state school such as the one I went to.
@Al Egator I'm sorry, but if a male teacher loses control because he saw a hint of an underage vagina, then he shoudn't be a teacher. Anyway, heavily regulate little boys' clothing; enforce severe dress codes; and censor any male musician or singer who talks about inappropriate things.
Peter Parker, it is quite simple. If everybody growing up, boys and girls, learned to respect one another as fellow travellers on this journey to oblivion, instead of 50% being seen as some kind of lesser beings and therefore forced to subjugate themselves to the other half, just bc these were born with a nutsack and a pecker, life would definitely be much simpler.
Feminism is about equality. The fact that some people are questioning whether a woman can do something... means Feminism has a long way to go yet towards equality...
@Al Egator sure thing! Why not? Even though we haven't had the draft in 40 years, women are already serving in combat in our all-volunteer armed forces.
@Al Egator No, I'm not. That's my point. I don't hate men, therefore I don't want to send them off to war. I don't think anyone should be drafted. Hey Beau. So - I WAS asked -- was EXPECTED to "be a good little boy" - growing up in w/my grandparents who were pillars of an Evangelical Presbyterian church. Sadly for them - In college ('71) I ended up in the classroom of a brilliant existential Jewish philosopher - who burst my holier-than-thou/moralistic bubble - way too easily. Sadly - Ben was not in Dr. Goldstein's classes. So - he feels that it's his moral obligation to let the world know that it's not what Ben expects of the world.
I was also raised in that evangelical bubble. Although I started college 40 years after you and for me it was gay and transgender friends I made in various student groups I joined. But yeah, same. There definitely is a "standard" for little boys, but it's also a patriarchal standard so it applies different rules to boys and it's likely less endemic. Either way, I'm a feminist because doing away with the patriarchy can only be good for me.
Has he ever gone on a tirade about the countless songs where men objectify women -even forcefully? No, objectification of women only offends Ben when they’re doing it to themselves.

I think that's something Ben says all the time, hence the reason Beau said it back. The thing is, all of Ben's arguments are based on his feelings, and whatever facts he brings up are all cherry-picked out of context or just plain false.
I said it before, and I'll say it again: Ben Shapiro isn't a smart man, he's what an idiot *thinks* a smart man is. That statement applies to a lot of things. Connected to this issue: Most men don't have adult masculinity, they have what a scared little boy *thinks* is adult masculinity. Thank you Beau, for showing us what being a real man looks like: Rule .303.
Sceptkl 1 interesting question. Women aren’t pressured in quite the same way to grow up and “be a man.” There are other pressures but no one ever says, stop doing that and be a woman. A woman can’t escape her femininity to go up the ladder to the supposedly greater state of masculinity. Also a lot of woman have accepted that they can do whatever they want and certain things don’t make them less feminine (although there’s still work to be done there.) I bet there are some childish conceptions of femininity but it’s likely less prevalent and especially less toxic. But who knows, interesting question.

I could listen to ben read off vulgar lyrics in a monotone voice for days. on a more serious note, feminism is not about vulgar content, its about the right for women to choose to do that or not, regardless of what ben shapiro or any man says
Thats all very true. They do indeed have every right to produce such a video. We are all well aware of Shapiro's angle here and what he's using his albeit entertaining voice-over to attack. But by the same token it is primarily passing off titillation for profit as empowerment. Art? Yeah I guess. Inalienable right? Absolutely. Butt jiggling for profit? You bet. Feminist empowerment? Maybe not so much. I don't believe many misogynists have much of a problem with highly sexualized women jiggling their bits dressed as a male fantasy. You want dick? Sure, no problem. They will however use it as confirmation of their stupidity, as did Shapiro. So its hard to see at the very least how this advances anything much other than Cardi B's bank balance, which is of course the purpose of the exercise.
@Flightof2Owls It doesn't, I don't and it shouldn't.There is undoubtedly a case for overt female sexuality being a feminist issue, but equally there have been many artists cynically passing titillation for profit off as female empowerment.
@Flightof2Owls It's being widely acclaimed in precisely those terms, and Cardi B has likewise defended similar material, though I'm not the slightest bit interested in trawling through the internet and finding out what she has to say in this particular instance or on anything else for that matter. The fact is that the material is indistinguishable from material that is routinely criticized as misogynistic, the only difference being its her ass, which although is a considerable improvement on when men do it, nevertheless is still fundamentally wiggling butt for money. I don't see how portraying women as sex objects and male fantasies is empowerment since its an unrealistic portrayal of women and I don't see how perpetuating misogynist female stereotypes helps anyone. Were she to have got up there and sung the same song with her bikini line in disarray and not dressed as male fantasy, then the song would have real power because it would speak for all women. It would say I as an ordinary woman have needs and desires and I'm unafraid to voice them irrespective of what you think I should look like before I have the right. And we all know why she didn't, because she wouldn't make anything like the money by not pandering to precisely what she's pretending to oppose. Sticking feminist labels on age old misogynist images and tropes when the real purpose is simply to sell ass is just hypocrisy. Sorry, I'm just not buying it.
@Flightof2Owls Oh I absolutely agree. This in no way reflects on feminism. Shapiro is pond-life, I don't take anything he has to say seriously. I don't much care about Cardi B's video, she can do what she likes. My only concern is the knee jerk reaction to defend something of dubious merit as a feminist anthem simply because its being attacked by the right is potentially damaging. She's not alone, waving liberal credentials around as cover for self interest is becoming increasingly common by corporations and celebrities alike, and calling them out on it from the left is increasingly difficult. All of which is grist to the mill for the right since it plays into their narrative.

The summer of '72 was when the Women's Liberation movement hit mainstream news in a big way. And schools regulate the length of my daughter's shorts, but can't enforce mask wearing in schools.

This one really grinds my gears.
Al Egator or just have no one be required to sign up for the draft
@Al Egator I don't hate anyone enough to send them to war. If that's how you feel about women, maybe feminism isn't a subject that needs your voice.
@Al Egator No, I'm not. That's my point. I don't hate men, therefore I don't want to send them off to war. I don't think anyone should be drafted. You seem positively psyched to send women of child bearing age to die, and that's kind of odd. Also, your bit about construction work needs updating. There are programs to help women get into construction all over the country.
@Al Egator You hated working with women? What a surprise. I occasionally worked construction jobs with my husband before we had kids, and you're wrong. He was in the military, and he said he felt bad about what most of the women he served with, went through.
I’d like to have his Jewish membership card revoked. He makes me ashamed.

Exactly, women have the right to do it. But other people have the right to judge them. Actions have consequences.
I graduated from Berkeley in 1972 -- That summer, Burt Reynolds did the mostly naked centerfold in Cosmopolitan Magazine. The summer of '72 was when the Women's Liberation movement hit mainstream news in a big way. This is a great way to get the point across. Thank you, Beau.
The ending made me so happy! Stuck the landing!
A big bruh moment
Like I originally said in response to the clip of Shapiro's video "I think what feminists actually wanted was for people like you to stop mansplaining to them what feminism is..."
He was doing ANYTHING but mansplaining.
@@beverlycastricone6900 I'm sorry, I don't think I was clear. I was referring to Shapiro, not Beau.
@@Tahoza O.K. I got it, and I LOVE YOU NAME.
@@beverlycastricone6900 Thank you! And I edited my original post to try to make my point clearer.
@@Tahoza You rock!
You're such a treasure! Whatever you earn, it surely isn't enough. Fan for LIFE. You are my sanity, Beau! Enjoy your day!
and yet again, Thank You Beau!🤗
Ben Shapiro just shouldn’t be taken seriously
Ben Shapiro just shouldn’t be.
Unfortunately, he is.
I agree but the trouble is a lot of young impressionable geeks get their political view from him. He’s dangerous.
John Smith john”filthy troll” smith
Sad days when you talk about Shen Bapiro.
Its Bincel now I think
Loved the video, keep up the good work sir. As a young Anarchist myself you're fighting the good fight and I truly appreciate your input🙏
