Sissel, the international singing sensation and national treasure of Norway, is established as one of the world’s leading crossover sopranos. Her angelic and powerful voice has made Sissel a national institution and she has sung all over the world, selling over ten million solo albums. She has contributed haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, and has been performing duets with singers like Charles Aznavour, Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Mario Frangoulis, Josh Groban, Brian May, Neil Sedaka, Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson. In 2005, she was knighted by the King of Norway, as the youngest ever to receive this honour. She stands there, like a classic Grecian goddess, like Aphrodite herself. Then, she opens her mouth, and with her mesmerizing voice, her penetrating eyes, her magical smile, she brings herself, and the rest of us, to life! Perfection!

One of the things I really love about Sissel is that she just sings. No pyrotechnics, no extra effects, etc. She just lets us enjoy her lovely voice. And she is always a lady, conducts herself with decorum and self-respect. You don't see that a lot of that these days, so I appreciate Sissel's sweetness doubly so.

I agree!! She just sings without any of the trappings so many singers use these days. No over exaggerated facial expressions, no hopping around the stage, no pyrotechnics...Just pure angelic singing....In many ways Art Garfunkle is the same. Talent always shines through and this is talent in it's purest form. ♥

A younger Sissel, looking "stunning"... But... many years later, everything about this "beauty" has matured in an "enchanting" way. In my eyes, she is a "delight". Her voice and her choice of songs, is something else! A recent discovery for me, which I am enjoying so much, during these troubling days!

I've been listening to her for over 30 years. There's only one other in her class and she's an Australian, Judith Durham that you probably have never heard of. Why? Because like Sissel she is totally humble and does not seek the limelight. Sissel is better known simply because she visits the states on rare occasion and sings in so many different languages (15 in fact). Ironically though although she's Norwegian she speaks perfect English with an American (rather than British) dialect. Another singer I like is Charlotte Church but you can definitely tell that she is British!

She's beautiful. The Lord Christ bless her, He who raises everyone up! At 2:47 she may be looking up at the audience and smiling serenely but it looks like she's looking up at the Lord lovingly and thanking Him for what He is, during the rendition of a song so fitting, so joyous and glorious.

Sissel’s performance of this song is my favorite. The main reason is that her voice is absolutely beautiful to listen to. Also important, to me, is that she does not increase the volume on the high notes.

I worship the ground she walks on - I just listen to her sing "You Raise Me Up" and she has raised me up so high that I don't think I'll ever come down - I don't want to come down. Linda, I saw her in concert this April. I waited for an hour afterwards in the cold in the hope of meeting with her. My prayer was answered. She was getting into her car and saw me standing there alone and she said, 'Hi'. I said her name and blurted how far I come to see her. She left her car and came to me, saying I was mad to come so far and not understand much of what she said in the concert. I had 5 minutes with her. She was so gracious and easy to talk with. She is what she appears to be: a good soul. Her presence is extraordinary.

Pretty rabid Linda Ronstadt fan, and just last week, a commenter said to check out Sissel Kyrkjebo if you like Linda Ronstadt. So glad I did! Ms. Kyrkjebo seems to sing effortlessly and with a voice that is beautiful in tone and finely controlled. So grateful to CZcamsrs who take the time to introduce others to such wonderful artists.
I came from that same Ronstadt vid I bet (High sierra), and the person was right, this woman has an amazing voice.
@@maryhart3929 Ms. Ronstadt is not only a singer for the ages, but a musical scholar and preservationist. She has led me to songwriters, musicians, and other singers that would've remained hidden to me. Between her and kind commenters, I have been provided so much rich entertainment to engage my mind and heart during this dispiriting time. I see I am not alone in e enjoying such fine talent.
Another one to check out is Angelina Jordan, also from Norway like Sissel. Beautiful, angelic, effortless voice! She's been singing since she could walk (literally!), won Norway's Got Talent at age 8. She's covered about 130 songs, many of them are the old classics (her favorite genre is jazz), and has written/sung 3 originals of her own when she was 11 & 12 which are simply outstanding. She just signed a recording deal with Republic Records in August at age 14. She's an amazing prodigy, beautiful and tall now (like Sissel), poised, graceful, charming, big-hearted, evokes soulful emotion, fearless in her stage presence (even as a child), loving and compassionate, very grounded in her family relations and commitment, a musical genius. The things I've written sound exaggerated, but if you check her out, you will see they are not. Like wonderful Sissel, she is going to soon be the next musical inspiration to a world that has lost its way in knowing, understanding, and appreciating what beautiful music really is.

I like the voices of lots of singers including many female ones. But this is the voice I would take to my desert island. It has the best human tones IMO those that comfort and heal.
