  • A short overview/review of J. Herbin 1670 Emerald of Chivor. A nice dark emerald green with good red/gold sheen and shimmer from gold particulates in the ink.
    Purchased from Goulet Pens.

Thanks Mick. I have Caroube de Chypre which I love but the bottle neck is too small to fit a medium or large pen so I have to pour it into a more practical wide mouthed bottle!!

Andrew Leon yeah, I have the same problem. I often just fill with a syringe. It seems they've taken that on board with the new 1798 range which has a wider bottle opening. It's a shame because its a great looking bottle.

I wrote about 6 pages with a sample of this ink. Very beautiful! Thanks for your thoughts (new sub here). Any recommendations for an ink with the same or close color to this but with no particles?

Elior Hallo it's a tough one because it is a fairly unique colour. The closest match I have in my collection is Robert Oster's 'Deep Sea'... there's a bit more red sheen, but no gold bits. It's a lovely, well behaved ink.

Mick L what about river of fire? Or peppermint? From Robert Oster?

River of Fire is darker and peppermint and spearmint are both more 'green'.. Deep Sea has a slight bluish tinge which gives it a nice similar hue to Chivor. Are you on Instagram? I can put a picture up of a comparison if you like.

Mick L im looking for a more greenish color, thats why i thought of these ones. Less blue. So what do you say between these two i mentioned, which one looks closer to the j. Herbin? Only from the two I've mentioned and no i dont have an Instagram. Thanks man!

Elior Hallo then I would definitely have to say Peppermint. Its closest to Emerald. Rover of fire is a lot darker green. Its a great ink (I've reviewed it here, too) but Peppermint is definitely more 'emerald of chivor-esque'
