I was broken when Porcupine Tree went into hibernation in 2009

I first heard Porcupine Tree in the 90s when I was listening to every prog rock band I could check out. I've lent them an ear from time to time since then.
It's a good thing they gave Gavin Harrison a career but he could undoubtedly have joined some better outfit. Their output is an unending drivel of purely cerebral agitation, random melodies and patterns, not a sliver of inspiration
Many such cases in prog rock however. Sad!

I would have thought you were describing Rush! My favorite Porcupine Tree tracks are the ambient ones. Give them another shot!

      They are no Prog-Rock-Band.
They are a Porcupine Tree- Band.

I think you mean Dream Theater not Rush. Rush has tons of feel and so does PT, but I do understand why people don't like Rush. I do not understand how someone could think that PT is cerebral drivel. They must not be very good listeners because PT puts the focus on feeling and emotion over anything else, they just happen to be excellent musicians as well. A song like Lazarus or Mellotron Scratch goes right to the heart and soul of what music is supposed to be..

@@PlaysWithChildren PT is one of the bands that not only gives me goosebumps regularly but sometimes manage to make me cry.
      "No feeling", my ass...
      "Random melodies and patterns"?
I can't think of many other bands who plant their melodies so deep in your head that it is almost impossible to get them out.
PT are the exact OPPOSITE of what you claim them to be.
      Besides, there are not prog.
      They are much, much more.

@@sidnew2739 very well said, I'm just starting to get blown away by the new album, their songs often give me shivers/goosebumps and/or make me cry, for sure. I've loved this band since 2002.
