  • In a November 2015 firmware upgrade for the FZ300, G7 and GX8 cameras, Panasonic added the post focus feature, enabling photographers to select a focus point after shooting. This review demonstrates the feature with real world examples and show how to use it for focus stacking.

    Another clear and concise video Maarten. I hate watching 30 minute videos that cover what yours do in 4 or 5. Give me the meat and potatoes but spare me the appetizer and dessert. Excellent job as always.

      +fiskpad I value my time as much as you do yours - from my written reviews, where the limit was 500-800 words, I learned to be concise. While I thank you for your kind words, I'm not happy with your analogy - I have no plans to skip dessert, ever.

    Simple example of focus-stacking technique which I've found really useful. Many thanks.

    I love the post focus feature on the G7.... it's absolutely an amazing tool and I WISHHH they would implement this in video and RAW

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  Před 8 lety +1

      +Sully Cortez I agree, it's an amazing feature - and while it's nice to dream, the technology method they're using would not work for video or RAW files.

    • @SullyCortez
      @SullyCortez Před 8 lety +1

      Yea I know it's a great start to tech that could be implemented in the future in a professional workflow. Like RedRocks' live tracking focus system (i forget what it's called but was at NAB last year) IF they were able to get it in video using slightly different tech, it would be a game changer I think EVERY camera manufac. would implement... kind of like IBIS.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  Před 8 lety +2

      +Sully Cortez Panasonic already has a tracking focus system and touch focus - which works reasonably well. I've not seen the RedRocks (which for the moment anyway is in a completely different class) in person, but do imagine that it would be superior - particularly thanks to the control panel. I'm also anxious to see what Sony's A6300 will provide, as the demos for that are also impressive.

    • @SullyCortez
      @SullyCortez Před 8 lety +1

      yea, I've used the tracking and touch focus from Panasonic, both are exceptional but not perfect. The RedRock Micro system is stellar and although I haven't seen it in person it's heading in a 'smart' direction which is where I think focusing should go.. give the operator more ability to focus on getting that shot without the cost of an extra person just to pull focus. I too am excited for the A6300.. it promises to have some incredible focusing features with it's 4D tech, I ordered mine the morning it was available to. But I do love the FZ300 + G7 post focus, such a cool thing

      +J.E._330 It is interesting, although the FZ300's small sensor I found it difficult to create good depth of field shots for the demo.

    Should the camera be on a tripod, and does it work with non panasonic lenses?

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  Před 5 lety

      If you want a steady shot, yes a tripod is a good accessory. The tripod works whether you use Panasonic or third-party lenses. All "micro-four-thirds" lenses, including those from Olympus will work with this and all other cameras that support the M4/3 mount.
