- Hey, the trailer is done! And it only took me 2 years to finish......(T 7 T ) hahaha. This is a reimagining of The Giver, so it's not a faithful adaptation. I wanted to think about what it would be like and what changes I would make if this book were an animated movie. So here is a concept trailer...I think?? After all this time, and a ton of tossed and redone/reused animation/concepts/3D models I'm finally finished with the trailer. (edit 2021-08-29: I reuploaded this because of some audio issues!)

Why couldn't this guy do the movie. Or at least the movie makers do this style of animation. It's always live-action with book movies.

I love this animation, but it bothers me with how Jonas's eyes aren't blue. It's the feature that shows that he's able to be a receiver, and is a defining feature when hes talked about in gatheting blue and messenger. This animation is still really good though
Thank you so much for your comments! And thank you for watching. ( ;w ; ) I totally get it, it's pretty different! That was one of those aspects I wanted to play around with in this animated version.
The eye color aspect was something I changed mostly as a creative decision due to me overthinking certain aspects of the original novel (I never read the sequels, so I made it stand alone. If this were a movie series, I'd be in a pickle!). In this hypothetical version, I inverted everyone's eye colors. Jonas' eyes are brown and everyone in the community's eyes are blue. The Giver's eyes would also be brown.
I inverted the eye colors (but due to his world being black and white, his eyes look almost orange in contrast until he leaves/starts seeing colors) because I think that it makes the community more eerie, since it would take a lot of genetic manipulation to make everyone's eyes a color that isn't the most common compared to brown. It also shows how controlled this place is.
As I get older and look back on the Giver (mostly as a standalone novel), the more the community comes off less like a future society and more like a cult (the isolation, only visiting other communities that share the same ideology, the outside world being much different), so that played a part in why I chose blue for everyone. It's more isolating to be the only person in your community with brown eyes than blue, which I think it lends more to this idea of something that was once common being removed and perceived as being "odd", even something as benign as brown eyes. I’m pretty sure that Kira‘s eyes are also blue because it was said that they have the same ones?
