Barbara Streisand note was forced she could not maintain the vibrato and it was falling apart into a straight note. Whitney's vibrato remained stable and she actually speeded it up at the end. Try again bro! Your answer was forced!
marc chesley Of course it's harder. Anything unnatural in singing is always going to be harder. Don't get it twisted I love me some Whitney and her tone was gold but she overused it. That's why by age 40 her voice was so terrible, she could hardly sing anymore. And don't tell me about drugs because many singers, as we speak, are doing drugs and their voices are not directly affected by it.
Marvin Carey smoking effects your voice, drinking as well that along with singing so much for 3 years straight will do that. The note was great. The forced part you hear is mostly from the mic and also the fact that she’s singing in mask amplifies the sound even more.

@Ganter I can't see anyone in the new generation being a legend in the true sense of the word - could be the songs themselves that just aren't going to last through the world of music, so with the combination of the full gifts of song and vocalists; it's definitely old generation. I will say a few of the older generation would over do their incredible power notes -- I think all singers with that range...etc get carried away and the public along with them think that's the talent. The talent is knowing when to use that gift. Just my own opinion how I hear certain tones/notes and how they sound. ; )
If the generation of today sang with the old generation the new generation would be so lost because i know myself in this generation as a singer our voices are softer lighter gentle sweet sensitive and very mellow but their voices were and are still strong rough heavy overly dramatic hard wild and ready to take charge fr fr LOL i love that i miss that in music but change is good too that's why I'm glad that most of the greatest legends are still living today in this era because when new school combines with ole skool no telling what will happen but it feels so good to hear signature sounds when they step up to sing especially Patti Labelle and Mariah Carey they still got it after all these years real rap

2nd, tone is preference so don't use it on objective/technical assesment.
3rd, Monica is a DRAMATIC soprano. & it's definitely not a tie. Morisette's G5 is strained & pushed.
4th, it's not that different. Lisa is full lyric while Ari is light lyric. & it's not a tie either. Lisa is well-supported & resonant. Ari is strained, high larynx, jaw tension & throat tension.
5th, Patti is DRAMATIC soprano as well. Falcon is like Aretha & Vanessa.

The old generation became the legends they are for one reason: they put time and effort into honing their craft. Not simply learning how to hit notes, but how to distinguish themselves from other singers as well.
That first comparison highlighted why the older generation are superior vocalists. You could hear Lovato straining and shouting before eventually hitting the note while Barbara effortlessly and beautifully hit the note. If you've ever heard the concert version it's equally flawless from Barbara.
Back then artists strive for perfection because they believed their fans deserve the best. Now, most artists don't bother because they know their rabid fans will support them no matter what. It's crazy because nowadays cracking voices and missing notes is commonplace for truly live performances from these alleged professionals. Back in the day, those things would be career enders.
Let's not even talk about the lipsyncing and those not so live, "live" performances of today where artists mimic along to live tracks with all the breathiness and technical difficulties to give the impression they are actuality live.
There is an artist on this list (I won't say her name here) who had to admit that one of her very important performances was mimed long after she performed it. Looking back at the mimed performance you could see the tricks employed to fool the audience such as removing the earpiece to suggest there was sound coming from it and brushing up against the mic to give feedback at a strategic time. Another artist (also on this list) vowed to her fans that she would never ever lipsync. She performed at a big sporting event that later admitted that EVERY performance at the venue has had pre recorded vocals and instruments for logistical reasons. When you break down the logistics of this event you can see why it makes sense to prerecord all vocals and instruments. However, this artist's rabid fans still insist that she was the exception and that her performance was live. 🙄
A few years ago Filipino artist, Charice, was getting primed for what should've been a successful crossover. She performed with her idol Celine Dion. Celine gave her advice to find her own voice and be herself. I don't know if that had any bearing on the personal decision she made a few years later to become a man, but I'm sure that's not what Celine meant.
Like many of the singers on this list from Asian countries (don't want to sound ignorant by assuming they're all Filipino), Charice, didn't have her own artistry or vocal identity. These artists mimic legendary singers rather than develop something unique to them. That, I believe, was Charice's failure to succeed in the US and the reason American record companies aren't flocking to Asia to sign some of these vocal powerhouses.
The legends on this list took time to develop their vocal identity while much of today's artists try to mimic those that came before them-- and even one another as it's becoming harder to distinguish who's who on today's records. That's why the older generation is superior far and wide.
Lisa Fischer isn't considered legendary in the mainstream, but she one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Despite having a deeper voice, Lisa can hit the whistle note with flawless efficiency. She's a once in a lifetime talent that sadly doesn't get her due. I'm glad she is mentioned here.

Both are amazing
The old generation is so amazing with some of my favourite singers of all time !! But I think that there is amazing talents in the new generation. According tout my personal preferences, I would say that for some of the notes, both generations were tie. But overall, TEAM OLD GENERATION WON !! Amazing video as always !
