On October 2023, WNT (Matchroom Pool) hosted the Hanoi Open Pool Championship which upset the WCBS because the schedule was really close to the Qatar Open (hosted by WPA). 3. ACBS (HQ based in Doha, Qatar) decided to ban every Asian players who participated in Hanoi Open from attending future events held by ACBS including SEA Games for 6 months. This ban also affect players from other billiards sports including snooker/ carom.
On June 8, 2024, ACBS sent a notice to its member federations, including the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation (VBSF), outlining the penalties for players or federations participating in events not sanctioned by the ACBS. But they won’t ban Shaw, FSB, SVB, Fedor, or Filler because no one will come to their events if they do. WPA and these other guys must be 💩 themselves right now 😂. The simple reason is they get more budget from governments like Qatar, Iran, UAE, Kuwait if they hold proper events, but the west Asian competition they've been holding had only 22 players 🤣 basically nobody is attempting their low prize, poorly held competition due to the Matchroom events, no events no free money from government bank 😊

I like Bazza and Young Edward but the truth is there are double standards going on here. Matchroom took Darts away from BDO and now they are trying to take pool away from WPA. The double standards bit comes in when snooker players want to go to Macau they get/are threatened with getting banned. I can see both sides of the argument, but one company being on both sides, depending on which sport you are talking about, is wrong.

Matchroom taking over the game is the best thing that has happened, the sport has not grown in my country in decades, because of our shit federation that does nothing to improve or to promote the game, they cant get any sponsors and they pocket the players money. There is very little money on federation tournaments because they pocket majority of the entry fees players bring in... But fortunately we just had the biggest pool tournament ever held here only because of matchroom, it was probably 10-20 times bigger than any of our federation tournaments in terms of price money and media attention
Match Room started all of this there was no problem. MR also wouldn't sit down with WPA and gave the WPA and the rest no answers. A lot of the Best Players will just move to Hey Ball and don't blame them
Listen, the WPA wants pool to stay the same as it's been for 50 years. They want it to be just a hobby so that pro players can have a side job and not take it too seriously. But now, someone is finally doing something great for pool. They're making it possible for pro players to make a good living. Of course, the WPA is getting nervous about this. They're worried that they'll lose control of the sport. But if anyone can save pool, it's Matchroom. All the pros should choose Matchroom, not just because of this, but also because the WPA needs to do something about the prize money. Pro players need to follow the money because this isn't like tennis, soccer, or golf where everyone is loaded and can afford to have principles. Pool has always been a low-class sport where players could barely make any money. That's why you should go with Matchroom. And if Matchroom fails, so what? What's the harm? Do you think the WPA would really let 100 big-name pro players not participate in the WPA again? Never. They can't afford to have that kind of embarrassment.
