  • Detailed how to guide on making wheel cribs. Includes tools needed, how much wood, how many nails/screws, how to cut the wood, how to square the wood, and why use a third board on the 2nd from the top level. Shows why I sized it how I did. Forgot to say in the video that, as you can see, 16" fits a small diameter wheel like on the Miata fine and also will work with larger diameter wheels like on a large car, truck, or SUV.

    Great video. Recommendation for your back - get a foldable chop saw stand. Probably $150? Maybe less at harbor freight. Fits in the corner, moves on wheels, never have to remove the saw.
    Speaking as a previous saw- to-the-idewalk, kneel-and-cutter, you're back will thank you.
    Cant wait to make these blocks! Thanks

    I gave you a thumbs up just because you can miss a nail with both hands !!
    And I like the idea of using this along with a jack stand.

    You think it would be safe to make those about 14 in tall?
    I'm sure there are plenty strong enough the way they are but it's just me but I would glue them also with wood glue outdoor wood glue like tight Bond too but that's just me I'm not judging.

    Nice video. If you want perfect square corners, the diagonals have to be the same length.

      Should be fine. The load on these is mostly downward with a little sideways at the top.

    Nice video. How did the tire set on the crib when it’s on your Car? Maybe 2inch overall length increase would give you a better wheel chalk under load. Like the jack stand incorporating here

    Would you make them longer for off road tires? Say a 30”-32” tire on a jeep?

    • @Killobyte
      @Killobyte  Před rokem +1

      I would make them wide enough to ensure they won't tip and that the wheel won't roll off them.

    Good video :o)
    I am wanting to make these tire cribs because I need to get under my 2006 Tacoma to replace an output shaft seal on my transmission. I have a 2 wheel drive not a 4x4 pickup.
    Question for you please. Have you used your cribs yet and is there plenty of room (without the jack stands) to work under your car?
    My truck sets about 7 inches off the ground as is on it's tires, adding these cribs would only bring it up to about 18 or so inches off the the ground. I'm not a young man anymore, I'm 71 years old so do you think that would be room to work on a drive shaft/transmission output seal. I hate these Chinese made metal jack stands and don't trust them as far as I can toss them. The cribs seems safer to use.
    Thanks again for making the video. :o)

      Everyone is different but 18" is good for me without a creeper. If using a creeper, I'd add the height of it to the cribs. Best of luck! :)

    Quick question. My garage has quite a slope. In fact, between the front to the back, there is about a 1 1/2 " difference. Could I just add an extra 2 x 4 x 14 to the bottom of two cribs so that it would hold the car level? So the bottom would have two 2x 2 x 4 x 14 screwed together.

    • @Killobyte
      @Killobyte  Před 2 lety

      As long as the cribs are still safe from tipping, I THINK that should be fine.
