Ozzie - Nice job on the review. Some of us are new to the chrono, so it is nice to see it in action. Admittedly it is straight forward, but it is nice to see it put together and put to use and especially seeing the app work in real time. Thank you for taking the time out to make the video. I actually just purchased this unit and will receive it in a couple of days, so I wanted to see how people utilized it because on all of the sales media all you see is them showing people shooting a bow and arrow through it, so it was nice to see someone actually shooting a firearm through it. :) I'm using it for my USPSA/IPSC reloads that I will be making. Always good to chrono your loads to make sure you make the proper power factor you need. :) Thanks again for the good job on explaining everything. Some people just can't help being an idiot when you try and do a good thing for people and take your time explaining it, but just remember, there are people out there that appreciate it. Excellent. I hand load for hunting up here in Alaska.
I like that it does not have a sleep function as I often switch between rifles to keep the barrels cool.
I don't like that you can accidently turn it on and drain battery when putting it away.
There is a space for a spare battery....
Muzzle blast can affect the chronograph, so it should be >=15 feet from the muzzle.
An inexpensive laser bore sighter helps determine exactly where the rifle is pointing in setup. Level bubble should be used in setup. Accuracy is +/- 0.03% so if every shot is exactly 3,000 fps, reading will vary ~2991 to 3009 fps.
Shot should be level as well as chronograph should be level.
The tripod that comes with it is very flimsy, so the deluxe version is a waste of money.
Buy a solid used tripod at a pawn shop, good will, etc.
The app permissions must be allowed using phone app settings...otherwise you just see 0 fps on the phone.
ERR1 means first sensor did not detect bullet, ERR2 means second sensor did not detect bullet.
I just ordered one from Natchez Shooting Supply $120 shipped. I can’t wait to try it out!!! I’ve always used Chrony chronographs, but they alway seem to go out and just read error, so I’m done with Chrony and ready to try the Caldwell😃

The latest version of the deluxe kit no longer has IR lighting it uses LEDs and the non illuminated shades are not included. The LED shades function as daylight shades. You can order the old shade style from Caldwell for $6.00 US , free shipping in the US.
Remember the Caldwell tail light warranty. If it doesn’t work buy another one 😂.

my1956effie amazing how childish some people are. Just stop and put yourself in my shoes for a split second... I have a heap of firearms which are displayed in reviews on CZcams, a person who I don't even know wants to lend me something to review. I have to say no (even tho you're probably a decent bloke) because I cannot risk my security. Then a childish comment. Most people reply with no worries mate I understand but I guess you took it as a personal insult which it isn't. Still if your handle is an indication of your year of birth I would expect a bit maturity.
All well and good, but where can you get spare parts when you blow the a** end off with a 223?
(I've taken it apart, looks like the rear sensor would be replaceable, just need to find one.....)

Does the foot lbs and temp work now?
On mine it does. You have to either selected your bullet from the inventory. Or you have tó create a new one. But yes it will do ft lbs and for temp. Mine does that and the BP

Ozzie, this might seem like a stupid question, how far away from tip of the barrel does this need to be to give you a Muzzle Velocity, like wise can you move it out and shoot through it at say 100 and 200m to get the speed at those distances (at the risk of it getting shot to pieces haha). Always a good review!
I know they suggest 15 feet from the muzzle as the recommended distance. I think once I bought it in under 10 feet it wasn't reading (when I first played with it). As for the other distances, good question mate, I honestly don't know and yes you'd want to make sure you knew where your shots were going lol

Nick, you don’t need a Chronograph at 100-200 yards to know the velocity of your bullets at those distances. You need to know your muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient of your bullet and feed that data into a ballistic calculator.

Hey ozzie, question unrelated to the video here but im sending off a permit to acquire soon for a ruger precision .308, and it asks to state why i need a cat B rifle and why a cat A cant do what i need, what im using it for is vermin control of foxes etc protecting my fathers sheep (primary production license) we need the extra range that a cat A rimfire just cant do but i have no idea what kind of details they want me to put down or what i need to put down that with guarantee its acceptance, thanks.

Its 2022 and that kit is a joke now. The comm cable wont work with any of the latest phones that don't have a audio jack. The Chronograph app is made for the Bluetooth capable unit. Don't waste your money on it if it isn't Bluetooth capable.
This video has about 2 minutes of usefull content stop stretching them out
