It's nice that you're trying to defend Crudup's record... But on the Elvis Sun labeled cover record, Mr. Crudup is prominently credited with the song. No one ever really "stole" anything for anybody... Those Fifties re-recordings by white Rockabillies were essentially their Odes to their black Heroes... And most of the time, those records ALSO credited their original black composers on the label. Recording "covers" has been done since they invented playing music. At least no one's commented with that "Elvis wrote this for his mother" BS yet. Too many of those books written about Presley are incredibly inaccurate... Anyhow... Cheers! Keep loving music!

I think he alwas had it, he was just in a career ditch between 1963 and 1967 and really bad state of healt after 1973, but his voice never left him.
