- Anya Taylor-Joy, star of the hit Netflix show "The Queen's Gambit," was allowed to keep some of the fabulous wardrobe items her character wore. One problem: the show was so successful that those pieces are currently on exhibit in a museum. #Colbert #TheQueensGambit #AnyaTaylorJoy

Happy to see Anya getting so much attention for her role in Queen's Gambit but the actor that played young Beth was equally as amazing. Her scene in the basement with chocolate on her face as she told the janitor how she beat all the boys at the high school was fantastic.
Please Stephen, you must get young Beth actor on your show too.
Agree! I hope the younger actress gets the same recognition as well! That scene w/ the pills 😂😂😂👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.
I liked it when she said "You're Mad" to Mr Sheibel...was good at being a robotic-type character
Yeah! and the scene where she calls the janitor a c*cks*cker but then later we learn she had no idea what it meant. But I was surprised that we didn't see a scene of her apologizing and explaining that she didn't know what it meant.
Agreed!
When Beth grew into Anya I was disappointed thered be no more of the younger actress...she was a good character
She's a guaranteed casting for an elf queen in LOTR.
I hope this comment gets the likes it deserves
Indeed. I mean some stories from Silmarillion might well be filmed in the future. So maybe Melian the Maia? Or if we want a real blonde elf character, perhaps Elwing?
So much this!
@@coosoorlog Unfortunately the Silmarillion is one of the few Tolkien properties that the estate have been wary of selling film rights to. It's very unlikely to happen any time soon
She would have just finished filming the Northman
She could single-handedly bring those fashions back into style if she wore them around town. That is if wearing them in the show hasn't already revived them.
i think there has been an interest in 50s to 70s fashion recently, even more so with the show. The show carefully picked those that translate well to the current era, or else Beth would look a little too grandmotherly.
I don’t know how Anya managed to portray someone like Beth so well. Characters like Beth Harmon always end up as evil villains, but Anya managed to so skilfully bring humanity to Beth and made her a likeable character.
Anya needs an Emmy for her role!
Yep but she wasn't perfect, she had her flaws, but was still very likable overall. An incredible character and performance.
@@joefriedman9843 she won, she defeated Kidman and Blanchett.
@@YDVDNVRR That was an golden globe. Not an Emmy.
@@jianthonnierojas7436 aw, I’m sorry, my mistake.
@@YDVDNVRR still a big accomplishment tho! She will be getting more recognition and future roles and I cannot wait
2:52 Dear Anya, if you can be recognized even with your mask and beanie, it's not because of the camera, it's because of your eyes with truly special beauty.
Absolutely. Those peepers are stunning!
They're pretty, but also like 1 foot apart. She looks like someone took the character generator in Skyrim and maxed out eye separation.
agree!
@@d.w.stratton4078 They're set far apart, but what's most striking is their size. She has huge eyes.
@@d.w.stratton4078 it works for her though
“I don’t know how they identified me with my mask and beanie on”. Oh dear, you clearly have no idea how beautiful, unique, and lustrous your eyes are.
Ikr so pretty 😍
you’re so right🥺
Facts 😂😂
So accurate man hahahaha
Anya Taylor-joy interviewed from her home in Lothlórien.
Good catch!!!
And has the reverse Ava Max cut.
Stephen appreciates this comment.
@@obcl8569 she is simply lovely 😍
Will die laughing
She wonders how anyone could recognize her with a mask on?
She's got the most incredible distinct eyes ever.
I think The Queen's Gambit is the best Netflix series I've seen. Probably gonna watch it again.
Queen’s Gambit, for me, was the best thing of 2020 (besides Binden’s win and the vaccine).
In my humble opinion, I think it is _Ozark._
Have you not watched Dark?!!🤨
@@phdt12 I'll second that.
@@waryaawariiri1812 I'll have to check that one out.
She is the next it girl. The show captured her in some stunning scenes and outfits. Absolute beauty and great actor.
Her outfits, her hair, her entire style was top notch!
Gorgeous and talented. And seems so humble. I hope she doesn't change.
Yea I know its just talk show appearances but she really does seem like such a nice person and very humble for sure.
This woman can act
Tell me about it
wbk
Have u seen new mutants
@@jzilla1234 awful script not her fault
1:21 She looked so genuinely happy about that compliment, I feel like that shows how much of a genuinely good person she is.
How have people not seen Anya before last year? The Witch, Morgan, Split, Glass, Peaky Blinders, Dark Crystal... she has been around and amazing for awhile.
Best part of the interview is at the beginning when Stephen talks her up and she seems genuinely surprised he's heaping praise on her. It's clear the endorsement meant a lot to her
For me, chess is a lot like Tinder.
I know a few openings, but often struggle to get myself into a position to mate.
I'll show myself the door now. 😉
In chess as in life, we're all forked eventually.
Pin me down and fork me!
You win!
@@AndorranStairway No you can't. No one in the history of internet has ever managed to unlock this technology and I believe no one ever will.
Unfunny.
She is SO gorgeous, combine that with damn good acting chops, it's no wonder people been watching the hell out of Queen's Gambit.
Ikr
From a pawn in the first episode with kid Beth to a white queen in the final episode, the Queen's Gambit is a brilliant miniseries! Anya's performance (and the little girl who played young Beth) was fantastic!
I think she’d be fitting for a Targaryen character in House of the Dragon. She already fits the look!
She's so lovely and a *joy* to watch, in and out of character
I see what you did there 😏
She has an amazing look. I think its her wide-set eyes. They are both odd and alluring all at the same time.
Just stunning 😍
Her "Fever" dance and the reaction of the other actor is one of the most simultaneously sexy and funny things I saw in 2020.
her eyes have magic, she could be a great elf
I've watched it 3 times. There is always something new, like subtle gestures or head tilts that she does so well. It can even be watched out of sequence. Every scene with her in it is so compelling. And, yes, Isla Johnston is outstanding as 9 year old Beth.
Anya's a great actor, loved her in "The Witch", her scenes in "Peaky Blinders" and of course "The Queen's Gambit". Really looking forward to seeing Anya as Furiosa in "Furiosa", the Mad Max part 4 prequel.
Probably one of the best tv series(mini) to come out of 2020..
While I maintain that Apple+‘s TED LASSO was the best show *FOR* 2020, I think you’re right that this was the best show *OF* 2020. 👍
Great directing...
agreed
One of the best-crafted TV series of all time.
It was okay actually
One of the reason Queen's gambit is such a good show is how light hearted it was. It had a lot of optiosn for tragic moments ( she's a drug user, the father guy was creepy, etc ) but they didn't really go for too many generic bad moments, the show left me pretty happy and it was a good thing to have in this year.
I like how at the end of the show, her outfit was to depict her as the white queen and her leaving the car meant she could move anywhere. Also, self-professizing to the name of the series, "The Queens Gambit".
DUDE, her acting and the story telling is what HOLLYWOOD has lacked for 10 years + now that's why it was so darn good.
Hmm, did he say he first saw her in Emma? What about Split, the VVitch, thoroughbreds and other stuff she's been fantastic in before that?
Exactly what I thought!
@@liamknipe6750 me too! I loved her in Split! I haven't even watched Emma yet. 😁
I scrolled to find this comment. She was amazing in split
@@frankov_83 for me the VVitch is my favourite horror of the 2010's so thats my go to when thinking of her
Michael's wife in Peaky Blinders!
I really do hope she wins an award for her role. She was cast perfectly! ❤️👏🏻
Apart from her incredible performance, the other part that stood out for me was the score. All tied together, it’s truly a powerhouse. I’ve been listening to the score ever since. I can practically see the chess pieces come alive on the ceiling as soon as the music plays. 👏🏻
Can’t wait to see more of Anya!
She looks like an anime character
Couldn’t figure out why I was in love with her. Now I know .. thank you
I think it’s the eyes
Her eyes are big and strangely far apart
its the fourhead
Beef with Belle Delphine confirmed
She was already phenomenally great in Vvitch.
no, they recognized her from that because she has the most amazing eyes I've ever seen.
She is a GREAT actress and The Queen's Gambit is an excellent show on so many levels. Good for her and Netflix!!!
Her character, walking towards the avenue of Russian chess players, in the costume of the White Queen, will forever be ingrained in my mind. Such a wonderful series.
First saw Anya in The Miniaturist series. I like the strangeness of the roles she choses. This interview could be longer.
Her performance in the Witch was astonishing for her age at the time
2:50 I was starstruck when I saw her piercing eyes on the cover, no surprise that people recognized her just by her eyes.
And kudos for making the boring game of chess (for those who don't actively play it) into a must watch mini drama series for anyone.
Everyone is just realizing how amazing this series is or was! Very inspiring and it hit all sort of emotions i didn’t feel in years.
Yes its not the clothes~ Yes its not the beautiful eyes ~ Its the whole presentation~ It feels as though she's better then all she'll achieve. Beth Harmon (a fictional character) will never be forgotten.
This was an excellent series... I admit to binge watching the entire series in two days... :) she was phenomenal in it...
There is brilliance here. The beginning of a legend.
I can't believe she got bullied for her looks growing up. She is sooooooooooooooo daaaaaaaaaaaamn gorgeous.
😍😍😍
@Josie Hutton yeah. She said she did on a Stephen Colbert interview.
@Josie Hutton yep because of her eyes... Even until now there are still immature people who call her names such as sid the sloth or an alien etc
Her eyes are the best part about her....
I swear she's a legitimate 15/10
how can people not see how gorgeous she is?
She’s so beautiful and a great actor. Hope to see her in a lot more shows.
Bro she just seems like a super pleasant person.
Truly a memorizing presence.
She’s seems so lovely and she deserves more kind messages💜
She’s amazing and her character’s progression throughout the story was on of the best written characters of all time.
She has such a unique and interesting look ♡ so in love with all of the characters she plays!
her 2:51 "this" is one of a kind and any work failing to represent that (Glass etc) would just fail
She's gonna be a superstar. For sure
I love Anyaaa. She's soo talented actress. Also too kind and nice personality 💖i wish her better to come ✨
I'm not surprised that Stephen noticed her in that movie since Anya looks like an elf right out of The Lord of the Rings. ^^
SHe’s like a good NFL quarterback plugging her teammates constantly, since she realizes her success is a result of their contributions. Seems very grounded. Ive watched Emma as well, and she’s excellent in that movie.
Queen's Gambit was spellbinding. Binged it all in one night, watched it again the next night.
I've had time on my hands!
Anya is quite a talent!
I first saw her in The Witch. Been on the lookout for her in movies ever since.
omg she was filming The Northman when the show came out. I'm so excited to see Anya, Björk and Alexander Skarsgard on scene together 😩😩😩😩
There are some pretty decent prospective "must see" films in the hopper for '21 & '22, but none more anticipated by me as "The Northman" ; )
Ive been a fan of Anya since her performance in The Witch. Its great to see her rise to fame. She totally deserves it
Her beauty is stunning geeesshhh
It was such a wonderful show! She looks a lot like Dany in GOT, but more serious. Love her acting!
She’s lovely and smart.
They recognize her from eyes because they are very outstanding. They seem like they are wider apart than most people’s eyes.
she looks magical
Anya was fabulous in The Miniaturist as well.
ugh she's so talented and she seems like such a sweetheart
She is very intelligent, very smart and humble. She has the feet on the ground, I hope she remains like that.
It's not about the chess, it's about the strong writting, and character building. And Anya was great in it.
Amazing actress! Just recognized her in Peaky Blinders and she looks completely different!
You can build up quite a filmography when you're immortal.
She’s just so lovely
I was surprised by Queens gambit, didn't think it was a show that would "pull me in", but it did
She is just so charming and lovely. I really need to.see more interviews with her.
Fabulous actor. Fabulous young woman. Bravo and blessings!
I was enamored with Uma Thurman back in 1990, now I have the exact same entrancement with Anya Taylor-Joy and it's for the same reason... they both share the very same unique & enchanting feature {wide-set eyes of course}. Duh.
TIL that her name is pronounced "Ann-ya", not "Ah-nya" like everyone seems to pronounce it.
He always makes an effort to respect the way someone's name is pronounced, one of the many reasons to love him :)
As she put it, "Anya as in aneurism".
It is indeed 😁
@@1articoli Haha, reminds me of Saoirse Ronan's "Saoirse like inertia"
It's not Aunt, but not Annie, either (in US pronunciation). It's somewhere in between. And now it's suddenly become a tongue twister lol. Let me help you out there: just go with A as in Arya Stark.
I've been a fan of Anya Taylor joy since the first time i watched her in Split. Now,She had been invited in a lot of famous talk show and people praising her talent as an actor. Im glad She got the recognition She deserve.
She is stunning😍
She is so kind and down to earth. Amazing!
The wardrobe from the queens gambit is wonderful
Such a graceful beauty, and such class. I hope she does well in the future.
What a sane young lady! Admirable.
I had no idea she had a British accent. It’s funny hearing her accent going from British to American and back 😂
She’s actually from Argentina, her first language is Spanish.
@@b.jr.7816
Nope, not quite. She’s Florida born. Her dad is of Scottish-Argentinian descent, and her mother is of British-Spanish descent, born and raised in Zambia.
The family moved to Buenos Aires when Taylor-Joy was an infant until the age of 6, settling in London after the Argentine crisis of 2001-2002. She spoke mostly Spanish while growing up.
She holds British, Argentine, and American citizenship.

I'm really glad that she's British. I thought she may have been pulling a Madonna there for a second, but I looked her up and the accent is legit.
She makes me smile☺️so happy to see her doing well
We need a season two definitely beautiful show and of course Anyas acting on Beth just extraordinary and on point we'll done anya and to all the crew that workd on this mini series
She's great
I binged the show. Wow! Did not expect it to be that brilliant.
But my wife won’t watch because i told her it’s about chess 😂
The score is epic also.
Her eyes are unique, probably her most recognizable feature. Not surprised people still recognized her.
The other day Split was on TV and I realized Anya was there, meaning I knew her before I knew I knew her.
What a lovely human being. She will have a wonderful career.
Loved "The Queen's Gambit" was witty and exciting!
First saw her in Emma? What about The Witch? She was amazing in that movie.
i just realised how much i love her. she is so real and funny. i love her
Good questions. Nice 👍
She was pretty swell in the Witch too!
Thanks!
Because of her in the Queen's Gambit I bought the pine green turtleneck she wore in one of the championships!! I had to have it! She is an amazing actress! Loved her in Emma too...
Her big beautiful eyes is why they recognize her even with a mask. They are one of a kind❤
