      I do like Dianno era Maiden, it has a different feel to it, he was perfect for this part of their career, but without Bruce they would of became the legendary band we all love now, he took them to the next level.

    Dude, seriously. I've loved the Stratton, Burr, Di'anno line up since I first heard them. They are not just great as rock n roller's, they are killer musicians in general. A lot of IM songs were so different before Stratton came in and tweeked them and he gets no recognition at all. Kills me. And Clive is literally in a world of his own for how good he is on the set before Birch and Harris made him refine his epic drumming to be more "metal" Clive is another one that get's no mention at all but his drumming in 1980 and even in his Samson days is better than every mainstream drummer that gets ridiculous amounts of attention. Amazing all around.

    I found Maiden as a teenager in 88 and loved every bit of their catalogue except the first two albums. Now the first two are the only Maiden albums I still listen to. Such an energy and rawness that they never captured again. I don't think I ever realised back then how important D'ianno and Burr were. The first two albums are absolute Killers and up there with the best rock albums of all time.

    • @Paul-hl8yg

      Bought the first album when it came out. Saw them in 1980 on their first tour, my local city hall. Bought second album & then, i didnt glue to the third!! I prefer Di'anno & the early Maiden sound. I too, only listen to those first two albums.. Theyre the best! 👍🇬🇧

      Nicko is a world class drummer but he is...colder than Clive. Dickinson is (...was...) an average good metal singer with a good vocal technique but Di Anno was a kind of unique mix btw punx attitude and blues singing. Unfortunately he had no vocal technique at all and ruined his own voice in his early career. Anyway, I started listening to metal in 1983 and I've never had any doubt the 1st and (especially) 2nd Maiden's LPs are the best (and "the Number of the beast" and "Piece of Mind" come after them, by a long distance). Their actual decline begun with "Powerslave": although that tour was the 1st time I could see Iron Maiden on stage and they performed it almost entirely I perfectly remember my disappointment when they performed its songs. If am not wrong unfortunely they didn't perform any tune from "Killers" in that gig (Milan, november 1984)

      Of course, one of the factors that make your comment true is the age of the band. Still very young and hungry! They haven't become too comfortable yet.
      I firmly believe that when bands reach a certain level of success, and they obviously kick ass, like Maiden here. Management should jump in if something or someone starts getting goofy, like wanting to fire a member or getting strung out or trying to become more "commercial." They could send for the fixer.

    Great upload of early Maiden. I got into them in 1983, yes I'm lucky in that I'm old enough that I remember all those bands of this period of Metal mentioned (us Thrash bands), UK and more (Samson, Saxon, Motrohead) etc) when they started out, and most of them are still going, even if its at 'nostalgia' metal gigs, their still relevant. For grumpy commentators, remember that most comments are mostly from under 21 year olds, who have only listened to very late 90's and mostly 2000-2018, it's all they know, and have nothing to compare their experience with, and are frequently commentating how they wish they could go back to the '80s and aren't as fortunate as people like me - living metal history !

    I've been to Ruskin Arms, but unfortunately not for this gig. Time flies, and now we're looking for next nostalgic "gigs" at stadiums. I still hope they would play some old (Di'Anno/Bayley) songs and/or something else than trooper and heaven can wait. I have listened to the same set too many f*********king times around the world.

    • @Martsapso21
      @Martsapso21 Před 8 lety +2

      He's not metal (or punk as he thinks he is), that's why. He's like a heavier version of Ian Gillan. Halford, Dio, Dickinson and the lot are great but Di'Anno is from another planet. No contest.

    • @legatou
      @legatou Před 7 lety +1

      Yes, like Ozzy...never was a True metal singer, Ozzy was allways a big freak. Has more value those guys, are more originals, with no equals. Halford & Dio sucks as singers, they sound too much "The perfect HM singer by the book". And Ian Gillan solo work is something very original, a really Hard Rock second division albums, with lots of interest to pay atention...by the time i collect vinyl i had very proud on Gillan Band discographie, but from Maiden I only had the 4 first albums. Today Iron Maiden reach the same level as Queen with fredie mercury (well, the music of Maiden is far much better, but thounsands of Queen listeners think the other way....but it's the same type of competition: not Art anymore, just statistics of full stadiums)

    A band evolves over time and this is maiden at the start of the metal journey, yes its raw and Paul gives it a different song to Bruce. Clive and Dennis are both very talented musicans, but maiden has always been Steve`s band and he has been the driving force for maidens success. The number of the beast is the shift from this raw Maiden to the polished maiden we still hear today. But you cant forget the past and this will always be a great era for all maiden fans. Paul and Bruce are very different singers so its very difficult to say who is the best. I like Pauls era and Bruces era too. I would love to see them all on stage together for a one off gig and Dennis too.

    Iron Maiden were the first live band I ever saw. It was at ‘The Cart and Horses’ at Stratford in London in 1976. They had a regular spot there on Friday nights, saw them many times. Dave Stratton also used to play in a band called Remus Down Boulevard (RDB) at a pub called ‘The Bridge House’ in Canning Town. Great days for live bands!

    After collecting vinyl for 35 years, i had a personal problema and sold a collection of maybe 9.000 LPs (from late 60's to 80's rock, metal, prog, folk, jazz, etc). After a few years i re-start buying a few classics...just those essential eternal LPs: Doors; the 5 first Sabbaths; Motorhead with fast eddie; early Uriah Heep, 1 led Zeppelin; 1 Janis Joplin; 2 Deep Purple....when I start again thinking about Iron Maiden I realize I don't need more then the 2 first LPs with Paul D'Ianno. Looking back....well, if i find "Number of the beast" and "Piece of Mind" very cheap maybe i'll buy it, but it's not essential. I think this says much about the Historic Band and his glorious years.

    Iron maiden is a school. Together we grow up. This voyage doesn't finish. I'm going 30 years. I wasn't born back then. But I had my chance to see them and I take that as a privilege (first time in 2000, then in 2005, Athens). Good times; to fight. I think now it's worse for the young. Or maybe it's up to everyone. Let's don't beautify eras. Let's fight for a better world in the present.
