I have to admit... I've seen some really good drummers in my time... After going back and watching all these old Blondie concerts, Clem Burk was just amazing... he's a totally under rated drum player!
Kills me every time I listen. This is just one of those rare perfect live performances. At their peak and just killing it. Really needs to be part of a released live set. Never get tired of listening or watching this.
+Paul Novak Aaaaaaand I'm visiting it again, and no less stunning yet again. I swear, science needs to come up with the answer for aging and death and fast, if only to let this band continue for decades to come.
I've watched every Blondie vid I can find and this whole concert (on DVD) was the best, definitely in their element and prime. I think she was pretty damn high too. She is in the moment. The whole band is. 41 years later and nothing out there can be compared to this.
Debbie will always be a crush, her voice touches my soul like no other female singer, what an amazing woman, great band, great songs, long live Blondie
Definitely a group that has stood the test of time, and endured. These two songs to my opinion display how enchanting Debbie`s voice can be. Great music, like most great art is timeless....
Takes me back to my youth.. I had this on cassette and would listen to on my SONY walkman while skiing Tahoe in the 70s. I counted SIX times in this video Clem twirled his left hand drum stick flawlessly... Oh how lucky we all are to have Blonde !
Oh man.............every member of this historic band is beyond words! Of all the songs they ever performed, "Shayla" to me, was the absolute best. What a voice!
The best Blondie songs evoke dreamlike feelings that felt familiar and age-old to me even the first time I heard them. They are sacred; they are numinous. In "Shayla" and "Union City Blue" I hear different shades of eerie grey night, one brooding and one desolate. Most male Blondie fans rave about Harry's sex appeal, but to me she isn't a sex symbol. She feels like a weird old aunt, charismatic in her eccentricity but also slightly unsettling. There may be more technically skilled bands than Blondie, but none can convey the variety of beautiful and haunting powers that Blondie did. There may be more technically skilled singers than Deborah Harry, but none of their voices will ring with the numinous power in her voice.
This is such an Awesome song. One of there best. also a fun song to play on the drums. Love Debbie's vocals on this song. My first band I absolutely fell in love with. They still Rock!!!!!
Go Clem! LOL! Someone once uploaded this exact video except they had enhanced the percussion on it so it really stood out. Wish I could find that version again!
AAHH My 2 favorite songs by this band. Great job!!! My all time top 3 woman in rock & no, not in any particular order, Deb, Suzi Quatro, & of course Stevie Nicks. Oh yea, lets not forget Linda Ronstadt either. Back when music was actually something you could listen to.
The music..the band....the lips.....the cheekbones....the hair.....once in a while God treats the human race.....as Shirley manson said the prettiest gal in any room on any planet...….
I adore Blondie... especially Blondie/Plastic Letters/Parallel Lines... and Clem is my all time fave drummer... The lamé suit was wél before ABC made it their trademark...
There's another video of the same two songs, but Clem really kills it going into Union City, and better video. I can't find it here anymore. Never the less, the entire band & voice are spot on.
Not sure how I missed these two tunes while they were contemporary (although I was certainly only a casual Blondie fan), but I like them now an awful lot.
So sad that this great Glasgow venue was demolished & replaced with a "Walkabout" Australian theme bar, i have so many memories of the Apollo, fantastic place!
..and it's not to compare with the delicate power of this..but in 1995 Radiohead (back at their The Bends era peak) did a stunningly heavy killer cover of Union City Blue..look up "Radiohead - Union City Blue live 1995". Just found it today..and yeah..unsung musicianship here (the band wasnt just Debby)..reminds me of Elliot Easton in the Cars=unsung brilliantly tasteful riff machine
They were labeld punk rock.if so they were the greatest punkers of all time.i say hard dance rock.clem burke was, and still is, one of the best drummers there is.
@@theonlyguiltymaninshawshan7909 Yes!!!! Truly....Many do not realize each member added something special and rare.. Chris finger picks like Lindsay Buckingham, and it may sound simple until you want it to sound exact and not over power..Leigh Great Bass player and The keyboard players are tiptop from each era..
@@aldenunion Lindsay is amazing. I saw him with Christine McVie a few years ago at the Fox Theater here in St. Louis. Watching/listening to him play “Never Going Back Again” was splendor times ten.

by far...perfect timing
And still is, plays every bit as good now.
He still is. Saw them summer 2022 in NY. He is the driver of their sound. Glen Matlock was playing with them and was great too
@@georgejohnson3302 not really,,can't do dreaming like he used to,,
yeah, he goes off on union city
No gimics no ego just pure artistry ....
This is the definition of perfect.
Cut glass voice, band knocking it out together
Debbie at her best.
Not sure how many times I've watched this, but I'm completely mesmerized every time.
Kills me every time I listen. This is just one of those rare perfect live performances. At their peak and just killing it. Really needs to be part of a released live set. Never get tired of listening or watching this.
I have a playlist on here with 40 mins of the concert if you're still interested! :)
+Fiona Gordon Of course. This should be well past the millions mark imo.
+Paul Novak Aaaaaaand I'm visiting it again, and no less stunning yet again. I swear, science needs to come up with the answer for aging and death and fast, if only to let this band continue for decades to come.
it is out on dvd ,i think this needs to be put on vinyl though
Yeah it is - I ave the CD. I love it!
Both of these songs have aged well and are still in my regular play rotation, here in 2020...!
2021
So glad someone ripped this 7.20 out of the concert, best bit... two amazing songs, and, ladies and gentleman...... MR CLEM BURKE!!!!!!!!
The man is a genius.
Great transition by Clem. Just brilliant. Amazing. Wow!
I was at this concert in Glasgow Apollo, 1979. A very lucky boy ! I also saw The Buzzcocks / Joy Division at the same venue not long before.
I've watched every Blondie vid I can find and this whole concert (on DVD) was the best, definitely in their element and prime.
I think she was pretty damn high too. She is in the moment. The whole band is.
41 years later and nothing out there can be compared to this.
I was at this. Dreamy eyed 19 year old met after it too.
Debbie just rocking it . The beauty she is with mesmerising voice to dream to. Lovely to fall into
Debbie will always be a crush, her voice touches my soul like no other female singer, what an amazing woman, great band, great songs, long live Blondie
Debbie H, Chrissie Hynde, and, today - Gaby Vessoni of Brazil's Fleesh. Check her out.

I lost my virginity to these songs in 1978.
Oh man.............every member of this historic band is beyond words! Of all the songs they ever performed, "Shayla" to me, was the absolute best. What a voice!
Dig that frenetic drum transition from Shayla to Union City Blues. RAWK!

Great comment Spinning Chrysalis. Nailed it!
Good to know my idiosyncratic view of Blondie resonates with somebody. Although my most idiosyncratic opinions would puzzle you or anybody else.
keep 'em coming ;)
Spinning Chrysalis ...without a doubt. TRUTH. HAPPY 2019 FROM PHILLY...🕊🦅
well said, perfectly said, "dreamlike feelings"' Debbie's singing has such a sincere feeling to it.
Clem is playing the heck out of those drums, and in a suit too. Very classy guy as is the entire band. Love this song and Union City Blue.
Plus it was not just a suit but it looked like gold lamay suit. Probably zero circulation. Probably lost 10 lbs of fat at night.
Debbie sings divinely and Clem rocks!
This agrees with the happiness of sound They are completely the best thing ever in their best moment.
What a great combination of two fantastic songs!! Debbie has a beautiful voice that shines through, would love to have seen them live at their peak.
We listened to Deb out in the middle of the N. Atlantic during Submarine duty, those were the days.
Nothing but CLASS !!! Unique band.
Blonde were on top of the world when this was recorded.
I bet the people in the audience will remember that performance for the rest of their lives. I know I would.
Deborah you WILL always be AMAZING!!! Thank you for making me feel ALIVE!!!
It has been toooo many years since hearing these songs! What a wonderful way to return to them!!!!
This is such an Awesome song. One of there best. also a fun song to play on the drums. Love Debbie's vocals on this song. My first band I absolutely fell in love with. They still Rock!!!!!
Wow what a band what a drummer, and Debbie sounds fantastic!!!!😎😍
"Lost in space and down she came.
Suddenly some subtle entity, some cosmic energy, brushed her like shadows."
You know, I would pay money for this. It is so damn good.
Blondie at the peak of their powers. 😊 Thank you.
One of the more beautiful things I've seen. The drums are big true, but that's something that makes their unique sound.
Amazing, this video takes me back, what a performance, what a gem 💎
Go Clem! LOL! Someone once uploaded this exact video except they had enhanced the percussion on it so it really stood out. Wish I could find that version again!

'Shayla/Union City Live NYC 1999' is the one I think you are talking about. Absolute classic. Burke is awesome.
2K Cars ...THANK YOU...LOOKING FOR SAME VID, ALSO. HAPPY 2019!!!!🕊🦅🦅🦅🕊E A G L E S!
Wow! 2 awesome Blondie songs joined together ❤️
Two great songs from a great great band
Oh, yeah! I needed that.
Beautiful
Not sure how I missed these two tunes while they were contemporary (although I was certainly only a casual Blondie fan), but I like them now an awful lot.
Me too.
i remember this concert but in Birmingham as if it was yesterday, the best concert ive been to and ive been to shit loads
Ah the agony of times past.
just flawlessly heartbreakingly good songs & performances...these 2 sad 'blues" songs go out to recently passed on Donna Summer & MCA (Beastie Boys)
They put a great band together for this CBGB Goddess!
So sad that this great Glasgow venue was demolished & replaced with a "Walkabout" Australian theme bar, i have so many memories of the Apollo, fantastic place!
Such a good jamin band!;with a bombshell!
Imagine this playing in the background while the girl of your dreams is with you in the back seat of your vehicle ... simply amazing.
Hard to belive she worked 4 or 5 jobs before deciding she was going to be a singer Now she is a singing legend
very much so. F-ing awesome
SHE is got ewerything! Heart, soul, beauty... WONDERFULL WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spellbinding! A perfect blend of song, singer and drummer. ( And the other lot aren't bad either!)
not much of the "other lot"
Luv Clem....hearts💓💓💓💓power passion
every performance.

Lovely song

Absolute best ever!
Wonderful woman, i always loved her.
incredible
These songs came from my favorite, Eat to the Beat.(I think!!) Peace, Jeff T., PGH PA
So sad I never took the trouble to go see them live. Total masters of their craft sustaining it for decades after too 😎
pure wonder. thanks
Now we have CardiB. God help us!
Superb PLUS. Thanks!
Damn .. Anything I could say would be inadequate.... just damn
Two individuals shone in that band, Clem Burke and Debbie Harry. Back in the M.F.ing day!
the others were all top as well
Agreed... but the other members (especially Nigel on bass) were top notch.

Debbie and Clem are like Mick and Charlie!
Ladies and gentlemen….. Mr Clem Burke! 👏
Art
The gods of percussion were looking down upon the birth of Clem Burke.
maravilhoso,fantástico,adoro!
She kept it up for a long time .
great
Que bien se complementan ambos temas, le dan un aire nostálgico y melancólico al show. Impecable la banda, el batero se luce. Blondie y sus chicos son eternos!
simplesmente lindo!
Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out!
This sound reminds me of vacuum tubes.
James Dean And Marilyn Monroe had a baby girl ?
