    I have had my Hydrow for 2 weeks now, and am loving it! It keeps you engaged and the workout becomes fun and not a chore. Dark Horse definitely needs to become one of the trainers on this rowing platform!

    Personally, I love watching a Dark Horse video while on my C2 and following along, so I totally get the interactive approach. I even plan on adding a large screen TV so that I don’t have to struggle to see my I-Phone on the cradle. I’m not going to switch rowers at this point, plus I don’t care for the perennial monthly fee.

    I use a Concept 2 and have the Hydrow Basic App ($19/mo) streamed to my 65 inch TV in front of my RowErg with home theater sound -- I am having a complete blast and I LOVE the Hydrow workouts!

    Hydrow has a training camp series, too. Beginner, sprint or endurance. I just completed the 6 week beginner camp. After you select your profile, swipe up from the middle double arrows.

    Above all, any piece of equipment that bring someone to do some exercising is great. I personally prefer my C2, mostly when I can move it outdoor to workout or anywhere else I wish. But Hydrow is an interesting machine that should push C2 to improve its offer toward "connectivity". Thank Shane for this honest and thorough review.

    What a great idea for members of "The Crew" some follow along workouts with you on the water.

    I have a Nodrdic track. A pandemic lock down purchase. They have a similar screen and coaching program. The rower itself is not the same quality as a hydroelectric or C2. However I used the video programs twice. Then I found dark horse rowing on you tube. I loved the learn to row and the intermediate and advanced rowing progression. If I am on a rowing machine I would rather train or be coached by someone on the same type of machine. Just a personal quirk I guess. Keep it up DarkHorse 👍

    Concept 2 could up grade there monitor to have more features and easier to use and size. There simple push lots of button repeatedly keeps the price down but more visual feedback would be nice. Needing to buy an annual membership kills the hydro for me.

    Would have liked to see more on how the resistance feels, particularly in comparison to the air rower experience of pull harder-get more resistance and therefore the ability to have the resistance vary slightly in different parts of the stroke.

    Shane, Thank you for your channel. When I ordered my Hydrow 5 months ago I started watching your videos. I sat on the floor and mimicked the form and this was extremely helpful. On the Home Screen of the Hydrow you need to scroll up from the bottom of the screen. Here you will find 10 minute fitness builders, training camp, sprint camp, and endurance camp. I’m currently in endurance camp. My workouts are currently 30 minutes. I’ve enjoyed the camps and feel a huge improvement in my overall fitness. You can also filter the leaderboard to compete with your age or gender group. I love rowing with the coaches on the water so much that I’ve taken up kayaking and I’m looking into paddle boarding. Many of the Hydrow cool downs discuss and practice technique. I think if you’re used to programming your own workouts it would be tough to lose this feature but if you’ve never had this feature it’s easy to fall in love with the Hydrow experience. Aquil is one of my favorite coaches. He’s so strong and positive. I think you’re an amazing coach and I would love to see you make a guest appearance for Hydrow.

    Just got my C2 last month after breaking a Sunny Health after only 7 months of use. I looked at others & price wasn't the consideration (thanks Uncle Joe). Lemme tell ya, I could "do the advanced" so much more easily on the Sunny Health. The C2 and DH have kicked my @$$. Sooo much different on the C2. I've followed DH for 14 months & I'm now getting maximum output & real growth from my training, it is awesome. All the other rowers offer something unique & connectivity/social certainly isn't lacking for C2, it's just not a native or robust function out of the box. And if I'm paying for that kind of program Hydro offers, seems $20/m for "The Crew" would be both less expensive & yet more personal.

    • @rafaelochoa9776
      @rafaelochoa9776 Před 3 lety

      how are you liking the c2? on the fence on what to buy for my first rower. looking at the hydro, aviron and the c2. price isn't an issue. if I were to go for the c2 I would end up buying the skierg as well. This online connectivity seems intriguing

    • @ClintWilliams
      @ClintWilliams Před 3 lety

      @@rafaelochoa9776 I have really enjoyed it. I prefer to have the granularity to run custom programs or follow along with somebody like dark horse versus something that's pre-programmed and inflexible, like Hydro.
      And there are plenty of apps and communities to have competitive races with virtually on the C2. You just have to hunt for them a little more so than something that's out of the box with a big screen & connectivity natively.

    Hydrow needs a DH beginner's prog.

  • @yuma420
    @yuma420 Před 3 lety +1

    It seems like this rower is geared towards the weight-loss crowd who needs stimulation and a lot of motivation rather than individuals who are training to improve their rowing abilities. Just like how a Peloton is for someone who wants to sweat and burn calories and needs that interactivity and stimulation provided through the monitor and coach rather than a cyclist who wants to train indoors if the weather is bad outside. There is a market for this product, but I don't see it competing with C2 nor would I ditch my C2 for this. Very fair review.

    • @jenniferfowler2500
      @jenniferfowler2500 Před 3 lety

      I purchased c2 for weight loss and general fitness. DH and my playlist is enough to motivate. Also, those who want to lose weight understand that technique is crucial to maximizing output, burning calories and improving split time. The more u know, El Capitan.

    • @richardmather1906
      @richardmather1906 Před 3 lety

      Pretty much. Weight loss crowd, not a fitness crowd. Not a "gym rat" target audience, jumping off between intervals to work with a barbell.

  • @NinjaJenn
    @NinjaJenn Před 3 lety +5

    I love my Hydrow. Will hard-core rowers like it? Perhaps. Probably not. Its not really geared towards them. If someone is doing great already with a C2 then Hydrow probably isn't for that person. But for me the on the water workout format has kept me active on it regularly for the past year. I've rowed on C2 and Waterrowers in the past so I'm not a complete rowing novice. Side note: Hydrow as a company is great and responsive (I've been part of many question/answer and feedback sessions at their invitation) and the athletes are very engaged with the users on social media.

    • @DarkHorseRowing
      @DarkHorseRowing  Před 3 lety +2

      You got the nail on the head. They’re not trying to sway the C2 audience, but rather those who are coming into the market and looking for a higher touch option

    • @coreybowers1
      @coreybowers1 Před 3 lety +2

      yeah, as someone who has repeatedly failed on the self driven approach to exercise I'm really loving the guided format. And I even like that there's a strong structure even if I ignore the leader board

    • @wadesworld6250
      @wadesworld6250 Před rokem

      Clearly they’re going after the Peleton / NordicTrack audience rather than the C2. I just bought a Hydrow so I hope they’re taking your feedback to heart and it will continue to improve via software updates.

    I'm surprised you don't wear gloves when you row. I don't row nearly as much as you, but I have some fingerless, lightweight workout gloves (no thick padding on palm) and I wear them when rowing.

    • @michaels.2331
      @michaels.2331 Před 2 lety

      Rowers do not wear gloves under any circumstance.

    • @monkeyb1820
      @monkeyb1820 Před 2 lety

      hmm. It sounds like it's allowed--but it's considered wimpy and maybe there's a stigma to it, although some rowers wear them here and there.

  • @michaellee8815
    @michaellee8815 Před 3 lety

    Does the resistance work independently of the video or class? Cuz then you could just throw a towel over the screen and “just row”, but I guess you wouldn’t get your meters and time and stuff… so ya that’s kind of stupid. Hmmmm..

      @monkeyb1820 Před 2 lety

      and they've kept the price stable for over 10 years, which is amazing. All of these modern screens will seem archaic in 5 years. I think it's good that C2 just keeps it functional, basic (although it lets you do a lot with regard to setting up custom workouts, etc.).
