I feel he put a lot of power into the Cilla version. Then the following one #3 he sings it beautifully but sounds sadder. By versions 4,5,6 he’s still singing it beautifully but seems as he gets better after his break, perhaps time went by and he was realizing she was really gone. He improves with both versions 7&8. Version 9 is good but a bit overpowered by his background singers and musicians. It’s a perfect song for him to sing because it’s so filled with emotions and he’s the best emotive singer I feel there ever was. Thanks for all this. Beautiful song, I think he sang it with his heart and it was truly what he felt for " Cilla". I preferred the versions where his voice was up front and clear, not drowned out by the backup singers and music too much. Though for me he always sings everything well!! Thanks for this beautiful song!
Elvis is Elvis all versions are great, but I prefer version s 1. 2 and 10. The second one listen cilla goes right to our hearts. Hi Leon... Thanks for doing this comparison of this very beautiful song....Its Midnight has always been one of my favourite songs since I first heard it as the B side of Promised Land in 1974 when bought it....Although I do love the Opening show 74 and Listen Cilla versions i think the 75 versions are the best as both Elvis and the band/ orchestra had played it many times by then and were more familiar with it and had a powerful arrangement by then...but I was surprised by the Dayton 74 version as I'd not heard this one before and it is sung beautifully....The 76 Tahoe version is lovely aswell but the tape is a tad slow which spoils otherwise a very good version!!...My own personal favourite version comes from the closing show on April 1st 1975 and is the first live version I ever heard from an audience recording (I got from Larry Patrick in Arkansas ) even from that low quality crackly tape I knew it was a special performance ....where after a few joking false starts Elvis and the band knock it out of the park!!..In fact he was on fire this whole show and is the night I believe Elvis proved he was still The King!!....😎😎👑👑

He did not need Charlie Hodge in the back ground at all lol. He was so sweet but I’m sure he got annoyed at times. It kind of messed up his song hearing Charlie not syncing with the lyrics.
Why do you think he destroyed his life with the prescriptions drugs he wanted the pain to stop when he lost Priscilla. He wanted to die and he knew what he was doing the night he died it was no accident.
I just feel that, he was so very lonely when Pricilla left him, that’s all, he loves her so very, very, VERY MUCH, what is wrong with what I said? P.j. Morris…
