The gate rule, "leave the gate the way you found it". Thank goodness for your neighbors.
Not when his cows get out of the gated area. I would close the gate to keep my cows in.
Bet you told them the next day
Here's what I find irritating about the guys leaving the gates open. They found them closed .... so why didn't they use some common sense and close them back?
Because common sense isn't common
It is very true but you gotta remember common sense is not too common anymore
The fields are so vast. I wish to own them 😆
There was a forestry official here who liked to leave gates open. Until one day he came back from his hike and found his truck doors chained shut with a bunch of locks and a heavy sign that read “close the gates or life will get hard”.
Word spread from there and the gates are never left open now.
FT, You are so lucky that no deadly accidents happened. We had two gates at a train track crossing. The train crew who did maintained the track left both open. Train ran and killed 21 young cattle ( Holsteins bred). That will always be etched in my mind. Glad you had friends to help. Cheers from Maine.
Horrible!
Oh my god! I hope the railways compensated you for the loss - still such an earlier preventable accident
What a nightmare!!!
Totally understandable FTR - prioritizing the livestock over camera set up - Great that some friend could help round them up and nobody was injured in the process
You're a better man than me Tyler I would have had a few choice words for those workers.
Don't worry I bet you he did, just not on camera !!!!!
Can't think of anything worse for a farmer, than their livestock getting out (other than financial worries or health problems).
I hope that in the future those people respect your animals. I pray to the spirits of farmers past to watch over you and your entire world🙏😊🙏
ITS SUCH A SIMPLE CONCEPT WHEN YOURE AROUND ANY ANIMALS... THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT WORDS.. CLOSE THE GATES!!
My granddad an uncles always taught us kids that you leave gates the way you find them. If they are open, you leave them open when you leave. If they are closed, you leave them closed when you leave. The land owner may have a good reason for a gate to be open or closed and unless you know why, you always leave gates as you find them. Some city kid working on the levy simply didn't know this fundamental "gate rule". Glad that it workd out for Tyler. But the gate left open still caused alot of needless work for Tyler and his friends to get the cows back where they belonged. Respectfully, W.S.
I said the same thing only, I used the word "damn" before the word gates 😊😅
@@jacqueline-fc8wb It should have been used before the word workers!
Closing the gate would be so easy but it's impossible to fix stupid
You can fix stupid, but it's gonna hurt. 😉
Good morning FT! Busy hay day and looking great. Really love going along on your chores! God’s blessings!❤️❤️❤️
Me too!! Love Farmer Tyler
Nothing more stressful than having your cows out. I don’t mind the neighbors on me but I hate it when mine are on him. Be safe!
No Rest, always busy., Have a nice Memorial Day weekend 5-23-2024👍🏽👍🏽❤️
The fertilizer man left one of my gates open a few years back. My dad said that guy has never had to run cattle before or he would have learned a valuable lesson!
Whew! Glad all the cows are home okay.
Its kind of expected when kids don't listen, but an adult is unbelievable.
Glad all are safely back where they belong.
Wow! You’ve been busy. Watching you bale hay was really interesting. I had a hunch about the moisture but it would be great if you could expound on how the levels of moisture are important and why. I’m new so if you explained it in the past, I haven’t see it yet.
Should mention about the cows getting loose. Good to see your friends helped out rounding up the herd. Scary that the workers don’t realize, know or care about the gate. Maybe you need to post a sign so it doesn’t happen anymore.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend. BBQing? Enjoy!
Thank you FTR !!!
What a day, the hay got bailed but the cows left the scene...😁
LOL, a farmer with hay fever bailing hay.😂
Need good knowledge in a lot of areas. Good on ya FTR
It might be a good idea to post a sign at the gate as a reminder for the levee workers.
Unless the sign is addressed to the person reading it, people today thinks it doesn't apply to them.
I just love watching You with All the thing's You Do!! My Dad would've been Crazy about Your Channel... I see Him in You!! His Saying was.. if You can't find it.. make it.. Trying & try Again!!
Always wanted to see how those bales are Made!! Awesome!! ❤🇿🇦❤
The Great escape! Nice save with help from nice neighbors
You did very well documenting the roundup of the escaped cows at the end therel. Keep up the good work.
Being the mild mannered guy you are, I know you didn't have fire in your eyes!! Especially after you talked to the Maintenace guys cleaning the levee. Well glad you had near by help for 40 animals!! Hay looks good and yes the North wind was not good! Good update, sorry you had the extra work, especially since your careful about that sort of thing.!!
What a day! The hay crop is looking good. So happy you got help rounding up the cattle. Unfortunately, the help wasn't the person who left the gate open.
You’re sounding under the weather Tyler. Always great seeing hay harvest season. 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤘🏻🤘🏻
When you got a problem you got to take care of the problem first we'll be there when you get done thank you for the video
Thank you very much for this interesting information about the value of your hay! I mean it. I actually always wondered but did not want to be rude telling you it looks like straw. I, of course, know that you do the very best possible for your cattle. Thanks for the video about a never getting boring job 😊
Your calves are looking great. Nice mix of black, red, & gray
Would love to know why it’s a problem if it’s too dry. Glad to know you got those cows back. I would be so frustrated lol can’t imagine. Great job!
If larger stemmed hay is baled too dry it will not be palatable, will be tough & hard to chew, nutritional value decreases and the stems tend to split when baled. Depending on the type of hay, if too dry it becomes brittle & will disintegrate making it useless to feed. If baled too moist or wet the hay will mold, get very hot & combust. This is how many stack, hay shed & barn fires start.
I'd love to use the combine, so satisfying and also ploughing. Happy as Larry (who's Larry) 🤣🤣 Beautiful bird of prey. Pleased all the cattle are safe and well 🙏🙏👍👍💛👍👍🙏🙏
Forget the camera , Cows are more important.
Thank you for explaining your type of hay.
OMG, you said the kind of hay. Yay!
Thx for sharing
How you reacted to them leaving that gate open and how I would have reacted are two totally different things. Your patience is admirable.
I was definitely thinking the same thing, Regina, but they most certainly would be leaving the gates open again next time!
@@ronw59 Maybe, but I would think that the company would be liable for any cows missing, gone, injured or maimed in some way. I suspect that that would be the case according to me. I would also think the actual owner of that property would have something to say about the levee workers negligent behavior.
@@reginaghee3768 I was just being facetious. I meant with the language I most likely would have used, they would leave the gates open next time, just for revenge!
Triticale is a great cereal crop with a very interesting history. A hybrid of wheat and rye, it is more nutritious and hardier than its parent crops and great for human consumption as well.
Thanks for sharing that information. I was born in Kansas in the middle of wheat country. Soon, moved to California, learning about the salad bowl. And live next door to Vandenberg Space Force Base. Listen to space x rockets go off. Really rumbles, windows rattle!!
Born in Kansas, in middle of wheat country.
Now in California, salad bowl, learning that now.
That’s a sick feeling and infuriating to find something like that. I’m glad you got everyone back where they belong.
When you sat down in the tractor seat . It looked like you were mooning us . Lol . I had to rewatch it to make sure you weren't. Lol
Feeling thankful that you chose to bring that hay wagon back over!
Even this city boy knows, open a gate close a gate
❤Fun video, riding along. Im far from a rancher / farmer or a ranch / farmers wife, but I learned something today watching from Sunny Florida 😎 I did not know you tested those bails for humidity, I figured you didnt bail it wer but I asdumed you would do it bone dry. So, I learned that today. Can't waite for another video.
You take care of those cows and don't worry about the camera!
The hay is looking good and I am glade u got all the cows and calves back have a good day .
We knew as little kids to close gates. Of course we lived on a farm but still. If it's not your gate, you shut it!
Tyler, get yourself some saline nasal spray. Use it liberally, carry it with you and you can spray it every hour or so. The dust and debris from haying irritates and swell your sinuses and nasal membranes. The saline helps to moisten and decrease the inflammation and open your nasal airways. You can breath easier and prevent the chance of a sinus infection.
Thanks for sharing your farm day. Reminds me of my young years growing up on the farm. Many good memories.
Glad you got the cows back in with no loss. I love hay season. But the allergies this year are horrid. Take care.
The cow is telling you to get some more hay. 🐂
What a good job that Tyler went over that evening!
Good thing it all worked out.👍👏
I would give those levee boys z stern talking to.
I would call up their boss and give them hell.
I must say, i love your Mad Max tractor 😅
The hay here in Minnesota is green. Lots of alfalfa, some clover.
Looks like straw :) maybe its the color from camera
triticale
I have actually had the straw conversation with some city slickers. I don’t think they understood 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah it's good that you got them all back again and it's so sad that people don't listen to what you have to say happens all the time
I think you should keep that new Holland. Nice tractor
If you get a chance/ how about update on the kittens/ grand kids ask they love the baby cows feeding on bottles-thanks Tyler
It’s a good thing you checked on the winter pasture cows when you did. Wouldn’t want anything to happen to any of the cows, especially the calfs. Understand how you had to get the cows back instead of filming. That makes perfect sense to me.
Hi FT it must be a panick time to see your herd out of the area where they should be i hope your allergies are getting better ! I don’t know how you find the time to post new videos a farmer never stops,I spend a lot of time on my cousins farm in northern Ontario, back then there wasen’t so much great farm equipment as they have now but that dosen’t mean that your job is any easier try to rest if that is possible?
You might try a dust mask when blowing out the baler
Thanks for all the great information you share.
The cows are far more important than us seeing a video - I hope you loudly mentioned to the folks who left the gate open that if you open it - you also close it!!!!!
I didn't know there was so much involved in hey I just thought there was different kinds and like wow
Thanks 😊
I had noticed things were looking dry in your last video or two, so i figured it was time for making hay!
Hello Tyler from Glasco Ks 😊
Law of the West: If it’s open, keep it open. If it’s closed, SHUT IT!
Get a Navage sinus rinse. It has done me wonders for my allergies from mowing , hay , dust in general
Glad all your cows are safe. So many cute babies!! 😎
It's really sad how some people are so inconsiderate. My parents taught me to leave things as I found them. If I open something, I close it when I'm finished.
context appreciated!
Very annoying about the gate - but I gotta say, you kept your cool so well. Most of us would have been cussing. However, I thought you had the electrified swinging gates on the road to the winter pasture??
Sometimes cattle are like children sometimes they will do what you want and sometimes they don't
Good job
I know it’s not your own pasture and is far away from home base so you’re probably under orders to let the maintenance guys get on with their work - but if it was my own land I would put a great big chain and lock on each gate with my phone number and every time someone wanted to pass in or out they’d be ringing me up and waiting for me to drive out and open it. After a day of silly hassles and standing around waiting for the lock to be opened, any worker would quickly get the message that the gates should be put back to how they were found or suffer the consequences and ribbing from the rest of the crew if the lock was put back on. Best way to get the message across - peer pressure and shame haha
Takes an hour of set-up and maintenence before you can even drive away to make a bale.
I thought it was straw from looking at it. I can see the cows like it. We usually planted oats and then there was straw after the oats were combined also baled the corn stocks after picking, they make good bedding with little treats in them.
that hawk or falcon that landed must have either landed on some food or had it in its grip before landing but looked like a lizard maybe? Still an awesome video, figured the comment would help boost. ^_^ love seein the work you do on the farm!
Another brilliant exposè of farming life, with its any idiosyncrasies that give it texture and builds tenacity. 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏👍👌✌️👏👊✝️🇺🇸
Glad you got all the cows without TOO much trouble. I guess it's about time you'll be getting the sprayer out for the cows with the darn flies already. One last thing - was that your Dad or Uncle's bailer? ..........just curious. Thx.
Why don't you bale it a couple days earlier as it gets to the 14-16% moisture range instead of letting it get too dry and needing to wait for overnight moisture?
As a non farmer- I’m wondering why you would want the bales at 15%. Isn’t dryer better?
I love the way you’re inspector watch you hook up the hay wagon as if they are grading you. Keep up the good work.
I’m wonder how long it would take to train the dogs to move the cows?
I don’t remember ever seeing video that shows how you keep all that equipment running with gasoline diesel or whatever. Obviously you have fueling facilities at your farm or your dad‘s farm or whatever perhaps we could see something about that one of these days.
Thx
Why does the % H2O at bailing make a difference?
Good morning tyler
looked like a fun day to me....hahaha
You do realize that the moisture level will go up and down like a yoyo all year long in the barn, right? The differences will be more stable I know, but as long as it is not green and is below 20 you are good!
I’ve never seen bailing and checking done. Interesting
Man I'm jealous of those nice flat hay fields lol. What kind of hay probe do you have?
Why is the hay too dry? Isn't it being cut and on the ground already drying it out?
Balling!!! when was this cut? i dont recall seeing this done this year...
Maby wearing a mask mite help also I would put a sign on gate with some colourful words on it 😂😂
👍🏻
Did we meaning you have a discussion off camera about closing gates, at Least I hope you did.
Yay! Hay!
Hey Tyler, long time watcher, first time commenting. A while back you asked about dryland farming alfalfa, just wondering if you ever got any responses or information about that. I make retail quality hay and have years of experience with it. Our ground is all irrigated, but have had some experience with dryland.
Glad you got everyone rounded up and headed home before any harm was done. I'm assuming the guys on the levy were reminded about gate closing habits when many legged beasts are around (esp nosy bold and hungry ones lol). n holy heck its hay time already?!! You going for 2 cuts this year? (not sure where you'd store it all though)
NAVAGE for the dust problem!!
What kind of hay is this, and did you really wait 11 days to bale? Love the videos.
