  • This is a very quick review on the Terava Jaakaripuukko 110. I purchased this knife from Varusteleka in Finland. Shipping was a reasonable 8 days to arrive to my door. This is an exceptional great value, no nonsense knife, get-to-work knife. Excellent choice for those looking for a budget-friendly knife option for bushcraft/wilderness use.
    www.varusteleka.com/en/produc...
    Blade length: 110 mm (4.33"), width 26 mm (1.02"), thickness 4 mm (5/32").
    Edge grind: Scandi
    Edge angle: 23°
    Total length: 240 mm (9.45").
Knife steel: Carbon steel 80CrV2, hardened to 59 HRC. This steel is also known as 1080+ carbon steel. 80CrV2 is a super tough (but not brittle) tool steel developed for woodworking tools; excellent edge retention, much like 01 tool steel in many regards. Performs exceptionally well for knife blades; springy steel like 5160, but superior to 5160.
Handle: Direct molded rubber, slightly textured.
    Weight w/o sheath): 175g (6.17oz)
    Weight w/shealth: 272g (9.6oz)

    It not Buck stamp

I kinda feel like removing the micro bevel when its dull either make it scandi vex or scandi

  • @whynottalklikeapirat

I have used classic wood handle moras all my life and they’re usually about as sharp as anything out of the box. At first I was a bit disappointed to discover that there is a secondary bevel on the puukko but I soon realised that it was just as sharp as any of my moras, yet offers a bit more control on a slow cut because it bites into the wood in a different way and allows you to angle your cut more. It’s not less sharp its simply more controlled. An example might be that they do feathersticking better than moras typically do because they just simply bite deep almost regardless. The 110 is an awesome knife

Nice review. The covered full tang is on purpose...it does not conduct the cold of the blade steel - very simple...We Finns are smart 😬🇫🇮🇨🇦 Jaakaripuuko (Yah-kah-ree-poo-ko) cheers from B.C.!

The secondary bevel makes it an even better knife, imo. I was never a friend of a zero scandi grind, bcs those are so frail. Mine came razor sharp, fyi, so for me that grind is a bonus.

I love the handle, with or without gloves,I actually had a small bit of rust starting from being an idiot an not wiping it down after cutting some green wood,so on my 140,I dipped it in some vinegar an it removed rust but also some black coating which is fine, it put a patina on it,so now I just keep them lubed with frog lube from rusting when stored,I've had no issues since then, grest knives,it took me a month when trying to purchase a skrama 240,I had them Email me when they were back in stock an then went an ordered one.

You can't go wrong with the 110mm or the 140mm pukko, tough as heck

80crV2 is a much better steel than 1085 and 1095 steels .. only the amount of carbon is similar. On tests 80crV2 keeps sharpness 20 Percent longer than 1095, toughness is like in 1085 but what really surprised me is it doesn't rust so easily, I wash my knife with water and just wipe with a cloth, I don't put any oil

The encapsulated tang is the most comfortable in cold winter areas because the hand is not in contact with the metal. The tang through the handle is as wide as the lanyard ring at the back and there are no sharp corners where it widens to turn into the blade. If one wanted a wider full tang and are ok with a shorter blade there is the the small jaakaripuukko, the "85", which is sold even as bare blank.

I took mine this past weekend on my camping trip with my brother, he was impressed with my knife, so he'll probably be getting on as well.

I bought the Terävä 140 and I also bought a mora Garberg in stainless for $40 off eBay and it looked brand new so you can find them cheaper if you look around and I love them both!
