    My Wing comes in at 1005 lbs fully loaded with tools and the usual load of gear I carry, but it is just as easy to ride as any other large cruisers I have owned. It only feels heavy when standing still; once moving, it's no harder to handle than any other large machine. In fact, i would describe it's handling as great. Once out on the highway, for both long comfortable distances as well as just enjoying the corners on country roads, it does so with grace and stability. Reverse IS handy at times when parking on uneven ground. It is just as thrilling to ride as any other of the 29 motorcycles I have owned over 62 years of driving on several continents, and is now the ONLY bike I own having gotten rid of all others. It's anything but a car, and I love the quiet of not having a loud exhaust rattling my brains for many hours on the road. I'll take the superb sound of a Porsche under hard acceleration over the constant noisy blatt of a Harley any day of the week !!
    Say what you will about it's size, this motorcycle has been around for 40 years and continues to sell well. My Wing is 14 years old and I have no doubt I'll get another 10 or 15 years out of it easily (although I may not make it that long....:))

    • @beaggyboy
      @beaggyboy Před 7 lety

      +TheFruitcake, (in a tone of disappointment) I tell ya, I bet the decision-makers responsible for implementing tech matters at Honda's , probably don't know that they are havin' a good thing going there with their GoldWing. So much so, they had had the (as U so-rightly opined) much appreciated 'Reverse' & so was another, the 'Cruise' mode, 2 key features, central to any touring bike of such considerable weight & dimension. Now howevr, are no longer available in the F6B, from evn since the dressed-downed GW (F6B)'s very introduction to the gen.public.
      Speaking of wic, though on a little different note to this. Didja know, they likewise similarly lacked vision at not inducting the highly convenient & equally appreciated 'DCT'!! automatic feature on especially a long distance (custom created) specifically for far flung touring in mind comfort bike, such as the Winger. Instead made the erroneous mistake of putting the feature into a luxury, high-end Sports-Bike, as the VFR 1200.
      An entirely wrong corporate tactical decision, if U ask me. Street legal Sport-Bikes are & will always be for only the hot-blooded, young ones(from an age of as early as whatevr the Law permits, legally), all the way to some who're in their mid 50s or evn around 60s. Who'd been riding hard all-while, possibly from since they were only in their early teens & accrued all the many fundamental experiences they now ave. Are by definition, the only ones who'd ride Sports Bikes & they are the ones who'd love the up-shifts, down-shifts, down by their left foot, as well as the timely grabs + releases of the Clutch grip-lever, from takin' on long stretches of hill road bends of the so-called "Twisties" switchbacks.
      Certainly not what.., (the by 'em) some "Appalling!" automatic or the 'Manual Shift', transferred instead all the way to the handle bars & evn transitioned into being 2 buttons. Wic in essence, the enthusiasts of this ride-type segment, in entirety did not like the feature at all.
      As what I mentioned earlier, these innovative automatic (or Honda's proprietary DCT) technologies are in essence by "NO" means at all an abomination by motorcycle sense & "They" (meaning all manufacturers , Honda alike) shud "NEVER"!!-Evr abandon this absolutely-remarkably amazing technology all too quickly. They but so-much need only be strategic to identify & know where, wic segment to apply this tech where It shud appropriately be. As the system is much x2 better suited only for long travelling, i.e. Super-Touring or Adventure (back "waters" roads actually) travelling, where This "Hassle-Free" feature truly stands-out to be an absolutely wonderful, no other like kinda experience or convenience. Leaving the rider(s(partner or his missus)) free to marvel at all the majestic natural wonders, God had created or evn to a good extent some imposing us-man made structures, like very high elevation, tall or very lengthy bridges or dams (just to name a few).
      Tnk-U fer yer generous time & attention in the reading of this opinion piece. Ave a nice evening ahead, God Bless.

    Older vlog but I couldn't resist adding a comment. That GW will easily get 40-43 MPG and not 35! I hear the GW constantly under rated on miles per gallon, why? IF...you rode in stop and go traffic for an entire tank then maybe 35; otherwise NO.
    My new 2021 GW tour/dct regularly gets 48-55 !!! That is why it can afford to carry one less gallon of fuel. Good Rides

    I'm not being sarcastic when I ask this, at 900+ pounds why would someone be riding a motorcycle instead of driving a car of some sort? The heaviest bike I think I've ever ridden was a ~500 pound BMW and that bike was tough to manhandle. What I mean is if you were close to losing it, it was tough to countermand physics. At 900 pounds I would think you could only go slow or cruise, because if you are going to lose it, you're going to lose it. Any thoughts anyone?
    Jamie, I really enjoy your videos, but could you start to mention the shortcomings of some of these bikes. They can't all be perfect can they?

    • @j_thom
      @j_thom Před 8 lety +6

      +giff74 40 years worth of continuous sales and viability should tell you something.
      I come from the repli-racer, naked-bike side of things so was originally warm to those older dudes on their "wings" with their old-ladies atop looking like they are sititing on their isolated thrones, then there was a demo-ride some years back, I totally fell in love with it. Still, not my 'natural' genre/class of mo'sickle. I actually find appeal in the F6B, but still have not made the leap from sport/streetbike over to tourer.
      I'd suggest that whenever the demo-days come about, for whatever brand, and whatever bike, because it's free, do yourself a favor, even if you "know" you hate cruisers, or not into enduro, or whatever, just go, have an open mind, go get a free taste.
      I also totally fell for the Triumph Rocket 3 as well after riding it, but just like the goldwing, I'm not quite done with sportbikes or have the space for extra bikes. Both those bikes are heavy, 800+ LBS, but amazingly easy to ride and balance. The engines are mounted low in the chassis and that makes all the difference I think.
