    Thank you to Paradox Interactive for sponsoring this video!
    La Résistance - the latest expansion for Hearts of Iron 4 - is heavily focused on espionage. You can now build an intelligence agency to train secret agents who will gather intel, crack codes, sabotage your opponent, and organize resistance movements in occupied territory! On top of all that, three very intensive and well crafted national focus trees have been added for France, Spain, and Portugal. In this campaign, we're going to try to restore a Bonaparte to the throne of France and prepare for the oncoming storm. These French will NEVER surrender!

    for majors and nations with access to prospecting decisions, excavation is pretty powerful; gives you more resources to trade, more resources to boost your own (as a major, sizeable) industry, and in the case of prospecting decisions, giving you resources you often wouldnt have your own source of. i mean,level 1 of excavation alone gives france an additional i think, 20 or so, iron just from its cores alone, thats 10 more mils running full-power for infantry equipment, without sacrificing civs or convoys in trade.

  • @logankilsdonk8488
    @logankilsdonk8488 Před 4 lety +54

    If you delete your army down to 1 division to train for XP, when you build an army again train the smallest unit so you can train a lot of them and then switch them over to the units you want when they're done. You'll have to retrain them up once they're reinforced but it allows you to put out a much bigger army much faster

    I wonder what Germany was thinking. Hitler’s sitting there telling his generals “soon, we will be ready. Our years of preparation are almost done and soon Europe will be ours, we just need to be able to beat France and maybe Britain.”
    And a soldier comes in and is just like “yo, they have no army. There’s literally like 100 guys along the whole line”

    4:24 Anarchist spain is non-aligned, rather than Communist, probably for a couple reasons: First, if Republican Spain goes Communist before the anarchists break off, it would be a civil war between two similar ideologies, which the system doesn't really support. The second reason is, if you had Anarchist Spain break off from Democratic Republican Spain, if the Anarchists were coded as communist (and both are original tag SPR), it's likely the USSR would try to support the Anarchists over the Republicans, which is massively ahistorical. The third reason is likely that they wanted a differentiation between the POUM and the Anarchists, which I suppose is possible with the Anarchists coded as communists, but it probably would be less satisfactory. That said, I suspect in an expansion or two, you'll see an ideology rework, since the devs have made a few comments about disliking the current ideology system (mostly in terms of monarchy being the default non-aligned, but I'd expect to see further expansion than just spinning off Monarchy to its own ideology)

      Just did a run with the UK... they're insanely OP anyway. Went hard on spies and decryption (had 4 spies and both Germany and Italy decrypted by 1937), lots of heavy fighters and strat bombers, declined the sudetenland (putting France and Czechoslovakia in my faction for an extra 2 spies for a total of 6) and then just used propaganda + network + boost ideology to destroy their surrender limit until they fell over in 1938 with no issues whatsoever.

This awesome dude was born a poor Russian Jew, became adopted son of the future biggest Soviet writer Maxim Gorky (real name Peshkov, which in Stalin's time got a huge city named after him - Gorky), vagabonded the whole Europe, lived in Canada and New York, in WW1 fought in the French Foreign Legion, lost an arm, in WW2 worked for a Free French Government where he was promoted to Colonel by de Gaulle, consolidated French colonies in Africa against the Axis, then was a french ambassador in China... Can someone clarify something for me since I think I misunderstood something, didn't he say that with this new expansion he no longer needed to train up a bunch of cavalry for garrisoning purposes and rather you just need to spend manpower to suppress stuff?

    • @t3ichtaucher
      @t3ichtaucher Před 4 lety

      As I understand it, you don't have to recruit the divisions and garrison them by yourself anymore. You instead assign the template to the region that has unrest and the template is being passively used. That's why it still needs manpower and equipment. It just works on its own in the background without you having to micromanage everything.
      Its more efficient this way as the AI tries to perfect it but you can't use these "Shadow divisions" for combat anymore.
      Still the better the divisions template is the better and more efficient the suppression is
      Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

    • @Vicerion17
      @Vicerion17 Před 4 lety

      @@t3ichtaucher Aha that makes more sense and makes some things click as I remember him talking about using the new heavy vehicles for suppression and whatnot, thanks.
      Though now I'm curious about what happens after, when a region needs to be suppressed and the manpower and equipment is spent will it be permanently garrisoned there or once successful there will it move should a different region require it later on, only creating new divisions when the number of regions needing to be suppressed outnumbers the amount of divisions.

    • @Descanlin
      @Descanlin Před 4 lety

      @@Vicerion17 I imagine it would be similar to a normal troop; the manpower and equipment is "spent" as much as it is in a normal unit, i.e. you can always get it back -any losses. I wonder if garrisons have an attrition rate, maybe based on resistance in the area.
      At any rate, I don't think the garrisons move about like that; they're assigned to a specific region forever, until you change it anyway, and don't "move on." If you have a barebones garrison for placid areas and a super-suppressor 9000 for the problem areas, you'd have to manually assign the Terminators to move them about from hotspot to hotspot.
      Also, to clarify a confusion I just realized you have: There isn't any "divisions" involved. Insofar as something you could call a "division" is involved, they're in the background of the code; the only mapping the system has to divisions is the usage of manpower/equipment (scaled to the area suppressed and how much suppression it needs) and the template it uses (which dictates the baseline manpower and number/type of equipment used.) In terms of actual mechanics, there is no unit on the map; it's a drain on your resources in the background, without a visible token on the gameboard.
