    Hello everyone, I’m happy to be finally posting this video of converting the Corrado’s ABS system over to manual braking. It was a long time on the list of things to do but now that it’s complete I couldn’t be happier.
    This is a full video from start to finish of the conversion. I know there’s some videos and pictures out there but perhaps this can give some viewing pleasure to your eyes :)
    The video starts off as always with a check list of things to do beginning with the removal of the ABS system. I start off removing the antifreeze overflow bottle and dig deeper down towards the ABS system. With a few plugs and other apparatus’s out of the way it’s time to start unbolting from the inside. Like everything on the Corrado it was a tight fit to undo the nuts but with a bit of perseverance the nuts come off and the ABS system pulls right out.
    Next step is to remove all the unwanted abs wiring that is a giant eye sore and a pain to manoeuvre around. With a pair of side cutters and a wrench the entire ABS cabling, module and relay fuses are pulled out leaving behind the most important wire to the back wing! There’s a few diagrams from the service manual and I show you how the car almost lit on fire from a burning fuse.
    With everything removed the new brake lines are installed and the manual unit gets bolted into place. After bleeding the brakes the last part of the video shows the vacuum port connection to the booster. I hope everyone finds this one entertaining, it’s the longest video I’ve created this far. Enjoy :)
    If you like the video please like and subscribe. I’ll be doing a Corrado door scraper hack from VW beetle scrapers in the near future but for now I need to get back to the Porsche.
    Please remember these videos are for demonstration and viewing pleasure only.
    Thanks for watching!

      Hey Jason, I thought the exact same thing and decided it had to be done. Any information out there is a bit misleading and vague. Happy to make educational videos for viewing pleasure :) Thanks for watching!

    This was quite the project, lots of information to digest. Nice to see a longer video, too! I had a laugh when I misread “remove old abs system” for “remove old a** system”
    Awesome as always, Joe Average!

    The one thing that was left out was the hardline disconnection info on the abs. But thats obvious for veteran home mechanics not to beginners.

    Dude, I wish you were in my area (Florida). Its been almost six months I haven't driven my 93 Corrado VR6 due to ABS failure and a possible fire risk. It seems like no one, VW mechanic or not, refuses to touch my Rado and it's got me so frustrated. If I could do it myself I would, but I don't even known where to get the parts. 😡

    Great video, I'm glad you mentioned the difference in the brackets. I have a 92 vr6 corrado that has the same abs issues. I remember reading on a vw forum that you need a bracket from a non-abs car in order for the booster to mount correctly. From what you've shown it doesn't look like a big deal on your g60 model, do you know if this is more of a vr6 problem?

    Thank you for posting this video. I had no idea of the extent of work involved on replacing the ABS system. Do you think this will be the same procedure on a VR6 corrado? Also mine is automatic. Thanks.

    I’ve sat here and stared at the wiring diagrams, on a 92 SLC white and blue comes into the abs, I can’t see where it leaves to go to the wing module. I can find the white and blue in the wing module that gets signal from the cluster no problem

    • @adasmithy

      Apparently the 92 didn’t tie it in at all.

    When connecting the brake lines to the master cylinder does it matter where they go. For example do the front lines need to go in the back holes closest to the firewall or front holes towards the front of the car.....or does it not matter?

    Instead going backwards removing ABS.. There is a sidewards/going Forward Solution: remove orig ABS and install a Mark20 with fork connector to pedal, but These forky Version are rare too.. There are not advices builds that changed from Ball head to fork.., mark20 comes with better diagnostic and more granular brake/ABS behaviour... So far i sourced Information, and Backed up mark20 for future..

      This! If you still would like to have abs. I've done it, used the system from Passat B4 (facelift). The OEM corrado breaksystem is crap..

    How did it work out when you had to bleed the brakes and bleed the clutch? I just removed my whole entire ABS system out of the car and replaced it with a non-abs system Passat brake booster ,MBC and all the most satisfying feeling ever I am so relieved!

    Great video and well planned out, it's really sad unfortunately how unreliable these abs systems are, so unfortunately people are left with no choice but to convert them to manual non abs. Just don't break hard in the pouring rain as you might skid LOL!

      Hey Steve, Thanks for watching the video and commenting. I agree it was a poor system but I can only thank VW for making the manual system too! I try not to drive the car in the rain but I will be sure to be careful. Have a good one!

      @Eurospec73 Před 2 lety

      Also Joe is it true that the brake line configuration always have to be diagonal from each other on the brake cylinder?
      For example the driver's front line would go on to the front right port, then the passenger front line would go diagonally across to the back left port, and then the driver rear will go to the front left port, and the passenger rear would go to the back right port.
      If this is the case it would have been nice if you mentioned that in your video as that's obviously really important. I'll be doing this not ABS conversion next week, and I will be extremely satisfied once it's complete.

    • @joeaverage8396
      @joeaverage8396  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey There, I ordered the complete manual system off EBay because the parts are no longer available. But if you could still order the parts you would need a booster, master cylinder, booster bracket, check valve, and all the little it’s and bits to put everything together.
      Thanks for watching!

    Have you ever removed engine pully for serpentine belt on the g60? I also have a 91 and I’m trying to replace the timing belt but I need to remove the pully vibration damper and the large pully for the serpentine belt to remove the lower plastic cover for the timing belt. I’m having difficult revving the small pully bolts and can’t figure the size of the large center bolt. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    • @joeaverage8396
      @joeaverage8396  Před 2 lety

      Hey Brian, I’ve been down that road myself for sure! To remove the dampener there is a special tool needed, however there is a neat trick that can be used.
      Watch the video at 2:22 and it’ll show how to release. Let me know if you need any more help once you get that tensioner off.

      At 7:00.. " This ABS System almost lit my car in fire"... However that can happen.. Old cables.. Old negative lines.. But should not fuses come instead fire 🤔. Ahh at 14:00 melted abs relais plugs

    • @joeaverage8396
      @joeaverage8396  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Alen, My reasoning for converting to the manual brakes is to avoid electrical breakdowns. The ABS parts aren’t produced anymore and if you can find them they’re costly, my system failed on me twice and almost caught my car on fire the second time. In my opinion ...
      Advantages:
      - having a system that you can still purchase new parts for
      - not relying on old outdated electrical parts
      - no more nuisance ABS light
      - no more FIRE!
      Disadvantages:
      - no more ABS to assist on slippery surface
      Thanks for watching!
