- Merlin is one of the most unique Arcanists in the game and also one of the strongest with flames spewing everywhere. There is however one item that synergizes so well with him, that is elevates his damage dealing so high and creates its own build for this hero. The build guide will show how to best use this new combo and set the world on fire.

Just looted this item from level 12 main quest "The Seelie Court" if anyone is wondering where to get it.
Regarding Fog skill, it states it affects range skill. Some spells like falling star are tagged range, but I believe they are unaffected by this disbuff. I’m assuming it’s only range types that are projectiles like fire bolt. Do you know if that’s correct? I was thinking about getting it next level because it sounds good since Merlin can become immune to it and all my other guys are melee. Mordred uses Thunderbolt, another range spell but I believe it will still work since it isn’t a projectile. Similarly, chainlightning
I can't say for sure, I actually never pick up fog. I've found that most teams that end up running Merlin don't really need it. My guess however would be that falling star targets a space on the map rather than a specific target so it still works in fog. So something like Desecrated Ground on Dagonet would also work. Thunderbolt may also work because it also explicitly ignores line of sight. I doubt chain lightning would work though, but maybe it is just projectiles.
Man, the way you talk really remind me of organic chemistry tutor haha.
No idea what that means lol
There is CZcams channel "The Organic Chemistry Tutor" teaching math and science. The tutor talk in very calm manner just like you. You can take this as compliment I love your and his videos.
I have the same weapon equiped by Merlin. I wonder why the actual damage is so amplified. According to the explantion of the option, the burning DOT is done at once when the option triggers.15:50 shows the enemy would get 55 burning damage for 5 turns. so the total damage must be 275. If the damage is amplified by vulnerability 10%. Then the damage must be 302.5. However, as you clear have shown, the actual damage was 593, which similarly happens to me as well. Could you give a clear explanation what factors did amplify the actual damage please?
I'm not entirely sure, the math calculations can be a bit tricky and the way they interact can be weird. My best guess would be that the 55 does not include any bonus to burn damage you have on your character so while it reads 55, the actual applied damage will be higher than this. Plus Merlin's burning damage essence. The main problem is I just don't really know what is taken into consideration when it reads 55 for 5 turns and how much is added onto after that when the damage actually triggers.
@@maxxalos1267 There must be something we are not aware of. Anyway the weapon provides way much better damage than expected it is worth to use though it has lower basic damage due to its low item level
Great guide! I’m getting ready to do the mission to get him. I guess since I’m Christian/Rightful, I shouldn’t take Morgawse? I also have the Forsaken Legacy event available to do and it recommends an arcanist. Do you get more bonus by choosing that class for the event? I have Ector, but if I’m getting Merlin next mission, I figured I send him once I get him. Any advice, my liege?
Morgawse would not be a good pick because of the enormous loyalty penalty. Each event has requirements for it to be a success, if it implies that it needs an Arcanist, I would wait until you can send an Arcanist to maximize the reward from it.
Do you have any recommendations on using merlin and morgana together? I'm halfway through my first playthrough (rightful-old faith) and being a fan of both merlin and morgana, I really want to use them together but it seems like they occupy the same role. Do you think it's still worth it to build morgana if I have already built my merlin? (I haven't gotten morgana yet)
Double Arcanist is definitely doable between the two of them for your backline. Merlin doesn't have hexes while Morgana does so you can double up on their CC potential. She has slow, chills, and better single target damage so they can definitely work well together.
@@maxxalos1267 thanks for the input! I think I will try to make morgana the secondary damage/cc support while building merlin as the main damage.
And thanks again for your guides, they have been very helpful!
@@tkb12 Np, always happy to help.
So what's your thought on the staff rune now that it triggers on 12 spells rather than 8?
Definitely a welcome change imo. 8 was insanely easy to get with Merlin and not really hard to get with Ector solo. Throw in one other caster like a Sage or even Mordred and you were basically guaranteed to trigger it every round.
@@maxxalos1267 So at 12 you still think it's worth it for this build? I'm a little torn - I'm running with Merlin and Morgan, so I'm firing it off roughly every other round. Thing is, I've noticed that the burning is roughly 45 a round with this staff, vs 75 a round with a different staff I have. That difference can add up.
@@Taliesyn42 I think it should still be pretty consistent if you're running 2 arcanists. It's entirely possible that your burn per turn damage is lower, but the trade off is the ability to get those large burn nukes for hundreds of damage with the wild magic proc and then resetting the burn. I'd assume that if you're hitting the wild magic proc consistently itd net more damage over the course of a fight but I wouldn't be able to say for sure in your exact case without seeing fights to compare.
@@maxxalos1267 Fair enough. Thanks!
Can you make Sir Leodegrance Sir Lancelot and Sir Bedivere please.
I love skill break tree so much but some time I don't understand all skill mean.
ps. my English not so good but I still watch and learn Thank you.
They are all certainly on my list, I can't say when I will do them but they should be coming fairly soon.
@@maxxalos1267 Oh thank you so much
I love your video ^^
Does anyone know how the Greed trait works? Is the -2 loyalty applied if you take Merlin on a mission without relic equipment?
It looks like it is a one time thing? At first he started with +5 loyalty, then when I put him in a party but didn't start the mission, he got a -2 Loyalty.
From what I can tell he just has a flat -2 loyalty until you get him all the gear to stop it.
@@maxxalos1267 Oh thank you. I was panicking trying to find a way to get relics with no luck and thinking well Merlin may be -18 loyalty by the time I get the relics.
@@SevenPatch Lol np, that'd be super rough if that's how that worked.
Is the Staff a random lootdrop/shopitem or was it a specific mission reward?
It was a loot drop for me, I'm not sure if it spawns in the merchant or tower, but I assume it can. It is not a specific mission reward.
@@maxxalos1267 thx 4 reply
@@maxxalos1267 Hey can you do me a favour? Can you share the item ID of that summerstaff for me? If you open the save file in notepad (saves are in: Documents\NeocoreGames\KA_KT\Users\[numbers]\Save\) - when you open the file in notepad, search for "HeroType=Merlin" then in that same HeroSaveData{} section/block there will be something saying "Equipment=" which lists all the equipment he has equipped. One of them will be called "Staff", for example, mine says: Staff1_T3_R_2 That's the Item ID.
so the full equipment list for my Merlin looks like this: "Equipment=TH_Jewelry_T3_R_1;Misc1;1,TH_Artifact_T2_R_1;Misc2;1,Potion_Healing;Potion1;1,ArmourLight2_T2_U_1;Armor;1,Staff1_T3_R_2;MainHand;1"
I think the Tx in the name is the Tier, the R means relic and the last digit is the number assigned to it. So for me _T3 is tier 3, R is relic number 1.
In my generatedItems.cfg I have these tier 2 relic staffs: Staff1_T2_R_1. Staff1_T2_R_2 and Staff1_T2_R_3... none of them say anything about wild magic or converting burn damage to instant damage tho, so i'm trying to figure out what the item ID is of the summerstaff. Hopefully I can just edit a couple of config files and jam it in to my save file rather than trying to savescum the item shop for hours and hours waiting for it to finally appear.
@@ExoduS_AU Lol ok, I think I found it correctly. TH_Staff2_T3_R_1 let me know if this works
@@maxxalos1267 will do. cheers :)
Super minor nitpick. Like super ridiculously petty, but it triggers me you refer to the runes as weapons and armor. They are just runes added to the gear the heroes already have. They never get a different weapon or armor it is just a new magical rune added to it.
Yea, it's just easier and quicker for me to refer to them as a weapon or armor rather than weapon rune and armor rune lol. In some videos I call them runes, in others I don't. Literally no consistency haha
