- Sir Harrison Birtwistle discusses his compositional process, with particular reference to his Violin Concerto.
Includes contributions from Christian Tetzlaff (for whom the piece was written) and Sir Simon Rattle, who together performed the work as part of the first concert of Rattle's tenure as LSO Music Director on 14 September 2017.
Performance footage filmed live at the Barbican Centre on 14 September 2017, provided courtesy of Les Films Jack Febus, LSO Live and Mezzo. Additional thanks to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. - Hudba
refreshing honesty to hear a composer saying what a frustration they feel when they have to actually have to write the darn thing down on paper
I agree from my own experience!
@@9827george just look at Beethovens scores!
He's so right. It gets boring so fast! And then you put it together, and half of the time is wasn't even worth it. A quarter of the time you just throw it out.
Rip Sir Harrison Birtwistle
Really great video. Thanks!
This is so true! I often encounter the problem of “Wow, this sounds really cool, but it doesn’t make sense with what came before.”
He died in 2022 . Amazing all my generation's heroes are leaving us . we are next I hasten to think !
GENIUS!
He is far, far more brilliant than myself!
Bach, Brahms, Birtwistle.
I assure you, the boredom of writing it is nothing compared to the boredom of hearing it.
I agree. His music is crap
