- Detailed how to guide on installing the DRL Harness from MX5things. This harness allows the DRLs to work when the headlights are on. Works on 2016+ Mazda MX-5 Miata ND and ND2. Show your fangs at night with this daytime running lights kit.
store.mx5thing... - Be sure to get one that fits your car.
I installed mine today. To avoid having to remove or cut away the styrofoam under the dead pedal, after pulling the carpet back and tucking it under the clutch pedal, I heated up an old solder iron, located the bottom nut and melted a groove from the top of the foam down to the nut. Took 30 seconds. Way easier than removing or cutting the foam. It made a little smoke and odor but that dissipated in a couple minutes. Very easy solution.
I ended up just cutting the entire half the styrofoam piece out and then just taping them back after. With the carpet and dead pedal back on, it holds it in place just fine and it's impossible to notice anything out of the ordinary. Great guide!
Such a cool video I truly don't know why they didn't set this up when they give us the vehicle great job showing how to install
Just installed mine. Pretty easy after watching your video. Didn’t get the dead pedal and carpet past the clutch pedal, but it worked. Thanks for the video.
Update: harness failed after a couple of months. Front parking lights stayed on. I removed the harness and will contact the seller.
@@enanosiniestro - I know this was from 3 years ago, but did the seller end up sending you a replacement? If so, how has it held up?
@@EnochLight I contacted MX5 Things and he had me change the jumper in the harness. He said that should fix it, but I just never got around to re-installing it. Will do this week.
Thanks for the video !
Though, my bolts were tighten so hard, I thought I wasn't gonna make it 😅
I had to make a lever between a wrench and a screw-wrench holding the wrench 😂
Comprehensive and thorough - love your work!
Nicely done. When you comment about 1/2 power on the running lights, of which lights/models are you referring?
MX5Things has two options for their DRL Harness. One has the LED Daytime Running Lights at full brightness (too bright at night IMHO) and the other has them at half brightness. I got the half brightness ones.
Good video. I ended up chopping the whole top of the styrofoam off then retaping it later.
Also it's a 10mm you need to to take that cover off.
Awesome! Thanks!
2017+ ND RF RH drive, there's ametal bracket for the foot rest, either slice it off or remove all the carpet to take it out of the way. otherwise simple process.
Yep I found there is a black bracket under foot rest and I really don’t know how to do it
Nice job!
Will DRL's still work during the day without turning the headlights? Thanks!
yes, mine are on with or without lights turned on.
Sergey at MX5 things assured me they do.
Good job! But for rear side lights?
How is this holding up years later?
Still working well
How and where do you change the brightness of the DRL's? Is there an adjustable brightness switch installed somewhere in the car? Thanks!
They had two versions. One with full brightness and the other with half. I went with half as the full is really bright at night.
Can you still turn the D.T.R.L. on by themselves?
Yes you can, just installed mine today, well work getting.
Hey Bill, can you please post a link for this? Comments or description work but I realllyyyy wanna do this to my 19' 30AE
I added a link to the description. Be sure to verify it works for your car before purchasing.
Hi! I just bought my '18 Miata and my only wishful change was for the running lights to stay on!
Terrified to try and do this by myself...would you have any idea of how much a mechanic would charge to install for me?
Rates will very by region and shop and, generally speaking, will be from $70 to $150 an hour. This should take no longer than 1 hour and is a pretty straightforward install.
@@Killobyte Thanks! I'll start shopping around. Happy driving!
Does the fangs lights come on during day after your modifications?
Yes, they still work as daytime running lights but will also come on when you have your headlights on.
Hi, if the light switch is set for "Auto" will the DRL still on during day time and all light will came on during night time automatic ?
I don't have the auto lights to test but my guess is that the DRL will go off when the headlights go on, even with the auto setting.
So which LED did you use to replace the stock bulb?
No bulbs were replaced, adding the MX5Things DRL Harness makes the changes. mx5things.com/collections/mazda-mx-5-rf/products/drl-harness
Thanku for ur video clip , I installed DRL harness ( bought from MX5 thing) to my MX5, but it has an issue the left headlight is flickering, reconnected a few times still have same problem,,, May the DRL harness faulty? I did contact with the seller (MX5 thing) wait for their reply.
Same here, what did they said?
@@osvaldogarcia5308 any update on this? Or how they are reliably? Considering doing it to my ND
Did you plasti dip the logos? Or buy em
Plastidip
How do I turn off the DRLs?
You can do so via the onboard screen under settings.
are u able to turn it off if u wish
No
Or you could just buy magnetic sockets and not worry about the nuts or bolts falling out all the time.
LOL, yes you could
Will this device allow for the drl to not be on in the day time.
No
You set that in the infotainment system
@@jairgs how do u do that. Bc I'm wanting to have them off in the day time
@@dchrish mine is a ND 2016 with a now old firmware in the infotainment so it might have changed but just go to settings and look for the DRL option and turn it off.
@@jairgs ok hopefully it works. I have a 2017 rf
You know over the years I've owns several different types of cars but I've never never known a I make of car that people won a muck about with so much as the MX-5 I just don't get it . People are always changing suspension or headlights or seats dashboard I don't understand it. If you want to keep messing about with cars buy a kit car build your own don't spend $40,000 on MX-5 and f*** it up.Cheers Phil from Newark
Oh no, it’s the FUN police!
How does this mess up the car “Phil from Newark?”
If it amuses people, what's the harm? Are they better off putting their money into drugs or alcohol? The races & The bets? In the casino? Seems to me there's nothing wrong if it makes them happy, right?
