    this is one of the best lens reviews i have ever seen

    I actually find it quite interesting that the 50 1.2, which keeps receiving bad press in all the technical reviews, is comparing so well here. Food for thought when you place this in context of technical measurements vs real-world results.

    Don't forget that the 1.8 has no USM. I really liked the lens, but as soon as something moves it's impossible to use as it doesn't really work with AI Servo. My lens could only find focus with One Shot. Dunno if it was broken for because of the missing USM - I've sold it. And that's the good thing. They retail for 100 and you can still sell them second hand for around 80

    I'm curious as to why you would compare the sharpness of the different lenses in the beginning of the video, considering they were at different apertures? From my understanding, there of course will be a difference based on different aperture settings alone. It seems like an irrelevant test to me but I'm sure you did it for a reason. What was the reason? Obviously the detail and sharpness differences of the lenses was shown when they were compared at the same aperture, ruling out aperture variance, so I'm not sure what was being established in the primary test. I would love to understand what the reasoning was.

      I am totally baffled by this comparison as well. It makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever.

      You're right to the point! I was baffled as well. It's pointless to compared 2 pics taken at different apatures. And the guy talked extremely fast... I had to keep rewinding just to hear what he said clearly...lol 😂

    Question I have the canon 24-70 2.8 version 1
    I shoot fashion …portraits and some events
    Should I trade my 24-70 for a canon 50mm 1.2
    Or should I save up for the 50mm and it’s expensive

  • @bartni

    how about 24-70 f4? How does it compare?

  • @think2mucheh

    today i comparing my sony a6000 with 50mm 1.8 lens,
    and my 6d with 24-70mm 2.8 lens..
    both shoot at inside the studio, and both are raw..
    but why the 6d result is so soft compare to the a6000?

    why the 1.4 is better than the 1.8 and why you can't ignore the benifits of it:
    -Metal Mount vs plastic mount (plastic breaks, metal doesn't)
    -USM focus vs Buzzer STM focus
    -Real focus ring vs tiny plastic ring (you can't use the 1.8 for video with manual focusing)
    -Buildquality vs build like a plastic toy
    I have had the 2 lenses. 1.8 is a great lens but lacks a good focus motor, focus ring, and buildquality.

    • @eksine
      @eksine Před 8 lety +2

      yeah well price trumps all your points, I'd rather spend $800 elswhere than pretend I can see a difference in image quality, there's nothing wrong with plastic if it only costs $100 vs what $1,000?

    • @Sammyvanw
      @Sammyvanw Před 8 lety

      +Bruce Nguyen the 1.4 only costs 325 not 800

    • @eksine
      @eksine Před 8 lety

      Thats not too bad, but I think even in this video he said the 1.4 isn't sharp at f1.4, so that's kinda dumb

    • @eksine
      @eksine Před 8 lety

      Also the 50 stm has a motor that's silent and better than the old version ii 50mm. Also the stm has METAL mount

      eksine I used to have the 50 1.8 and now have the 1.4. The 1.4 is better in every way (I bought mine used so the priced differential was somewhat reduced), including the quality of the pictures. Yes it is a bit soft wide open, but most lenses are.

    I am shooting running people at nighttime without flash a freaking lot now with the 50mm 1.8 , now can anyone tell me if the 24-70 2.8 will equalize that performance ? cos I have to be located too far away from my subjects with the 50mm on my 6D mkii , will the 24-70 perhaps focus faster too ?

  • @belizeandiver
    @belizeandiver Před 10 lety

    I have the 24-70mm f2.8 L 2 and the 50mm f1.4 prime. At f2.8 my 50mm f1.4 outperforms my already razor sharp 24-70. I tried a 1.4 from a friend that was very very soft which made me think that maybe they have quality control issues at Canon.

    In your opinion, Is the 24-70mm a good lens for the canon 70D?
    if not what what would you recommend in place of the 24-70?
    I have the 50mm 1.8 i use for video but want an additional option for a lens.

    • @eksine
      @eksine Před 8 lety +1

      is the 70d a full frame body? if not than no, upgrade the body or else the EF lens will be magnified, i.e its no longer 24-70 rather now its 40mm -85mm. or stick with ef-s lenses

    • @bigblackassnigga
      @bigblackassnigga Před 8 lety +1

      +MrByzzi 24-70MM 2.8 IS A GREAT LENS IF YOUR USING A CROP BODY OR FULL FRAME i'M A FIRM BELIEVER IN COLLECTING GLASS(LENES) OVER CAMERA BODYS BUILD YOUR LENS COOLECTION UP THEN MOVE OVER TO A FULL FRAME BODY

  • @nasri
    @nasri Před 10 lety

    I really love this series.
    Would love to see some comparisons with the EF-S lenses like the 17-55 f2.8 which are commonly believed to be L lens grade when it comes to image quality. Most of us are just humble mortals shooting with crop sensors. =P
