    Your gardenias are severely chlorotic from iron deficiency.... Bud drop most of the time is caused by temperatures, they need a cool night time temperature after a mild daytime temp. Scorching temps = bud drop. Hot night temps = bud drop

      I pray you're right because I've got a pair of Gardenias that are really well established and have dozens of buds on them of which like 5 or 6 will actually open up. And yeah, mine get full sun all day I didn't know they needed lower temps during day and night. Gonna give that a try, really hope it works out. Thank you for the advice.

    I've have had my gardenia plant for 1/2 year but it hasn't bloom. There was one bud when the plant first arrived but it dropped soon after. I will give the coffee grounds method a try and organic fertilizer if I have too. Its very interesting as many western based websites (usually Souther parts of USA) have advised that gardenia buds cannot survive above 21 Celsius so I was thinking that the Malaysian tropical temperature was the culprit in my no bloom situation.

      This plant needs plenty of direct sunlight with warm surroundings to flower and not too much moisture in the air. Together with this climate give NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer. It will definitely produce buds and bloom.

      Hi !
      First check the general health of the plant. Healthy Gardenias will have shiny and intensely light to middle green colored leaves. Dark green and dull leaves are often the result of nutrient deficiencys. Use a powerfull slow release fertilizer (Osmocote) as mentioned above, that contains macro and all micronutrientes as well. Gardênia needs a constant flow of nutrients to grow healthily, especially when growing them in pots. Biological fertilization is fine, but not sufficient to support this plant with nutrients in long terms. In my opinion, the biological does not replace the chemical fertilization. It's just an extra.

      Yeah that’s been happening to me too I finally have blooms on there that seem pretty healthy you can normally tell when they’re gonna fall off if there’s a little brown marks underneath the bud but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I do notice that they do like early morning sun and I make sure that I pick all the yellow leaves off and to try to water them the same consistency not too much and not too little which is hard to do due to rain factors.

      Hi. Sorry to hear that. Gardenias are native to eastern Asia. They are warm-climate plants. They do best in a warm and mild, humid climate. As such I don't think they will do well in frost areas of Sydney, especially during winter. Try to find a warm spot until the winter is over. I think eventually they will do well during warm months later. Don't give up. I think it's the climate affecting the plant.

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  Před 2 lety

      Depends to your cutting. I usually cut stems that already have buds, so it will continue to bloom even during rooting period. After rooting, and flowering, the stem will continue to produce new buds and blooms, so best to take softwood cuttings where it has been flowering. If you take a long cutting and separate into few cuttings, the middle cuttings will take longer time to produce buds, usually about 2 months and also depending to fertilizer too.

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  Před 3 lety +4

      Hi, this plant does not tolerate extreme temperature either too hot or too cold. The daytime sunlight and nighttime temperature must be similar to tropical or subtropical country. It is possible your daytime or nighttime temperatures are at extremes affecting bud formation. On the other hand, it could be due to lack of nutrition in soil. Try using fertilizer that contains higher percentage of phosphorous such as npk 5-30-5 (chemical fertilizer) or chicken manure (organic fertilizer). Give a little about around the edges of pot if you are growing in pot, if on ground, pour it around about 2 feet away from the center trunk of the tree. 3 weeks once. It could be any reasons. Try talking to local growers how they are growing in your area. Hope this helps.

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  Před 3 lety

      Hi. It could be due to any reason such as over or under watering, too low light or not enough sunlight etc. However, generally if leaves of plants are light green but the leaf veins are dark green this could be due lack of iron mineral in the soil for the plant to take and produce sufficient amounts of chlorophyll to make the leaves darker green. Try giving any well-balanced fertilizer with chelated iron in it. You should be able to see new darker green leaves. Remember the old leaves will not change, but the new one should be green. Follow the instruction on label on how to use the fertilizer.

      Hi, does the gardenia buds turn brown and fall off? Can be two reason:
      Too much shade causes poor flowering and flowers that brown and drop off prematurely.
      Pests - Mites are a common source of gardenia flower bud problems. Bud mites cause the tips of the buds to turn brown, and the buds fall off before they bloom.

    I love the gardenia plant it smells heavenlybut the flowers turn brown very quickly why is that

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  Před 3 lety +2

      My flowers usually start to turn yellow after 6-7 days. It will turn to light yellow and will remain yellow for few more days and eventually turn to brown and die away. This entire process from bloom to end seems to be 14 days cycle. If this is the duration, it's normal. But if it is just after 2-3 days, then yes, there is something wrong. This usually happens if the flower has been infested with pests or it could be due to humidity. Sometimes when the sun is too hot, it will make the flower dry too quickly and die. Else it could be due to too much moisture in the flower, which can also kill the flower quickly. If you are in a climate zone and the night time temperature drops too cold it will make the flower wet and with water droplets on it, too much moisture can also cause the flower to turn yellow too quickly. It could be any reason. Need to look at all the angles. Sometimes, it could also be due to too many chemical fertilizers. The best remedy for growing any flowering plant successfully and to its fullest potential is by providing it the native climate from where the plant originated. In this case, mimicking tropical climate both day and night. The right, soil condition, sun, moisture, etc all play a role in how healthy the plant is and how long the flowers bloom.

      @PlantZone  Před 3 lety

      Where is your current location? Sometimes it can be due to climate or temperature in the zone you are living in. Temperature extremes such as too hot or too cold also can cause this. Not enough sunlight also can cause this. Try to give temperature like in the tropical country. Make sure the plant gets good sunlight, if too hot best to put it in a bright area but indirect sunlight. Make sure the soil is moist. Give good flowering fertilizer and give mist to your plants to provide good humidity. These are general things you can do to help the plant flowers.

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Good lighting in this context refers to the amount of light the plant needs. Sometimes, plant lovers place the plant in areas where the plant is not getting good amount of light which affects the plant such as in growing or flowering. So we need to be sure in what kind of light condition the plant will thrive.

    Why my gardenia flower make small flower then die before completing growth ?

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Gardenia buds may drop before completing its growth due to any of these reasons:
      Water Issues: Too much or too little water.
      Nutrient Deficiencies: Lack of essential nutrients like magnesium and iron.
      Environmental Stress: Temperature changes, low humidity, or incorrect lighting.
      Pests: Insects like aphids and spider mites.
      Soil pH: Soil that's too alkaline instead of acidic.

    The buds in my plant do not open

    • @PlantZone
      @PlantZone  Před 3 lety

      Hi. May I know your current location? Many factors can cause gardenia buds not to open or bloom such as soil conditions, watering errors, location, etc. However, in my experience, talking to many growers, most of the time it is due to the location the plant is being grown. This plant does not do well in all places unless the climate is similar to a tropical climate. Gardenias are best grown in a warm tropical-like environment. In some locations, the sun will be even hotter than tropical temperature, this can make the buds drop too. At another location, if it is too cold, especially at night when the temperature drops, can also cause the plant not to bloom. If you are not in the tropical region, try creating a tropical microclimate zone for the plant. Also, ensure the plant is in well-draining soil which is rich in organic matter. Water the plant only when necessary, don't water the flower buds. Water the plant around the soil. Also check around the flower buds if there any pest, sometimes the pest can make the buds drop too. Make sure the plant gets plenty of sunlight too. Are you already doing this? If haven't, try them and let me know.
