  • Remember my okapi sculpture? Now I’m making a fabric-friendly block print portrait for printing on my own tank top, handmade, at home! This is also my first project using the Woodzilla prinitng press. I've waited so long to have my own press, and after this project, I’m super excited to make more block-printed clothing. This vlog highlights the process of converting my recent okapi sculpture into a drawing, and then transferring that drawing into a linocut block for printing onto fabric. This is also the first project using my new Woodzilla levered printing press, the first printing press I’ve ever owned.
    ✨In this video I share:
    ○ My digital drawing process in Autodesk Sketchbook app
    ○ Two methods I tried for transferring the design
    ○ A satisfying montage of rubber carving
    ○ Operating the Woodzilla levered press
I publish videos once a month sharing my adventures in creating horse and animal art in my free time for my own enjoyment, like sculpture, painting, printmaking and more. If you enjoy watching the adventures of an artist making things by hand, and sometimes learning something new, I’d love to show you what I make next!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I was thinking about getting into linocut printing, but wasn't sure. After seeing your video, I'm going to give it a try. Thanks again

Hi, I’m just getting into block printing and am looking for the best ink to be used on cotton fabric, manual block printing, no press at hand. The “best” ink would be based on ease of use, quality of the print and of course durability when washing. How well does the oil based Gamblin release ink hold up when washing clothes?

I hand-printed a shirt two years ago with Gamblin relief ink in sepia and was able to get a good print. It’s been worn, machine washed and dried very often (probably 2-3 times a month since) and hasn’t shown signs of fading yet.

I sculpted my first horse head today, and wow your channel gives me so much inspiration. I do have one question though, do I have to use a wire for my sculptures, or would a skeleton of tin foil and hot glue work? I just hate using wire I makes me angry, idk how but I always find ways to cut myself, or break something. Wire hates me. TvT

By all means, if a process is frustrating you, absolutely feel free to experiment to find what works better! You can definitely try an all-aluminum foil armature, and if you ever need it to be more rigid, using a thicker, heavy duty foil may be enough to get a similar support. Hope that helps and wishing you all the fun with your projects!

I did! The Blue Mountain Stable username served me well for years, yet the change I feel makes it easier to share more of my hobby adventures going forward
