Twisted I have a question. Do you think in any way that the elevated numbers put up by the Oilers have anything to do with the fact that they played far lesser teams in their run to the WCF? Where as Dallas had to go through the last two cup champions. The LA Kings and the Canucks are in no way on the same level with the Knights and Avalanche.

@@bassman7 Yes, I think the Oilers' competition plays a big factor in the big numbers we've seen from their top performers. At the same time though, you have to credit their improved defense for conceding fewer opportunities in the defensive zone. Dallas attacks stronger than LAK and VAN though, so the Oilers' top guns might have fewer opportunities in this round (not to mention against a dialed-in goalie like Oettinger).
I’m a Cats fan all the way. I do like Dallas and Edmonton as well. Will be a great finals. Shasterkins save % is inflated because of low danger volume shots by Carolina. He hasn’t faced nearly as many high danger shots yet. So I’m more confident in Bob for the Panthers than I am Igor.
I say Stars vs Rangers in the final. Though Oilers vs Stars in the West Finals is gonna be fire! I haven't seen a good series from them since 97 when I was 10 years old and how VICIOUS that was because this was before the Stars were in the Central and they were a Pacific division team meaning facing these boys alot and let me tell you what THEY DID NOT LIKE EACH OTHER A BIT!
It seems wrong to compare stats with Dallas and Edmonton. Those stats are based on Dallas playing the last two champions.

The last Champs came in with a depleted line up, Stone playing hurt. The Avs were missing Landeskog, had the whole Nichushkin circus going on for who knows how long in the locker room, M&M not playing up to their normal levels, and a goalie no better than Skinner. The Oilers are coming in fairly healthy, no cancers in the locker room, and a better top 6 performance wise than either Vegas or Colorado. The top 4 scorers so far in the playoffs are ALL Oilers. And historically Otter has been suspect against the Oilers.

Oetter has 2.6 GAA and about .910 save % versus the Oilers. Has won last two and the last game was a shutout against the healthier version of Edmonton. Revisionist history @LARGO125 ... if not outright fake news.
As a stars fan i'm really interested in this series being that we were 2-0-1 against them in the regular season. I know a lot about Vegas and Colorado but this is the first time this post season I really have not had any grasp on the team we are up against. the stat breakdown was pretty eye opening so It sounds like this should be a nail biter of a series for sure. Thanks for the breakdown.

Tough one. 4 pretty decent teams. The Rangers and the oilers have a habit of getting up by 2, 3 and even 4 goals in some instances. Especially the oilers. Taking their foot off the gas could cost them, even if it happens in only one game. Although I think that both the Rangers and the oilers are the more talented club's, both Florida and Dallas are better built for playoffs. With that I'd say that Florida, who went down in five in last years finals, takes home the Cup.
The league probably wants Oilers vs Rangers but me, personally, i want Florida vs Oilers as i think the clash of styles would be fun to watch. The Oilers with their high level skill vs the physicality of the Panthers would be really fun to watch. What we probably get: Dallas vs Rangers which i just cant get hyped for. I dont like the Rags (though i admit they are very good) and while Dallas is very good, at some point Connor has to win on the big stage.
I agree with you, Oilers vs Rangers would bring more ratings and perhaps have better crowds but Oilers vs Panthers is more interesting to me, I like both teams a lot so I guess no matter who won I wouldn't mind. Kane vs Tkatchuk like the Calgary series in 2022 would be epic too lol.... I guess the only series I don't care for is Stars vs Rangers, if it happens, I likely won't watch all the games cuz I have no emotional investment in either teams

It looks to me that Florida - Dallas will be the Stanley Cup finals. I also must point out that the two conference finals series are fantastic and will produce some of the best hockey. I am truly salivating.

I think ppl are underestimating how well the oilers match up against the stars plus the stars had some really bad games against the knights
True, also it gave me hope after seeing McDavid so happy and excited screaming like a maniac after the game 7 vs the Canucks. A scary McDavid is the last thing people wanna see! I think the whole team finally overcoming their regular season Demon vs the Canucks and finally eliminating them, Skinner having got pulled and then coming back to still win the series will give him a major mental boost knowing he can do this. Bouchard playing like a God etc, Kane doing what he does best in physical atmosphere vs Zadorov (would get him ready for Tkatchuk). I think this whole round will give the entire team a HUGE boost no1 saw coming and they will surprise a lot of people vs the Stars.
But they don’t actually match up well. Stars are 2-0-1 vs them this season…

I don’t think Dallas’s defence can last only playing 5 guys and especially considering Bouchard would be #5 in ice time if he was a Star with 24 mins per game. Kinda like how I thought Connor and Leon playing 28-30 mins per game I don’t think it’s gonna be good, they played Colorado whose a great transition team and so are the Oilers so I think Dallas probably wins in 7 but I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest if they beat Dallas in 7.
They made the switch to Petrovich in game 6 and he played a solid 18 minutes. I think that’s the setup going forward until Hakinpaa can return.

Rangers can win in 7
It will be Oilers vs Panthers in finals, and Edmonton winning the Cup in 6.
Edmonton as been rolling for the past 6 months and is the best team in the NHL since December. Their offense and PK is just in another league. Their top players are also in another league and will steam roll Dallas that "happens" to survive both VGK and Avs. Dallas shouldn't be there IMO and looking at their top player stats in the playoffs, it tells a lot when your top players have +/- of -2 and -3 and the other barely edging above 0. Dallas is overrated in these playoffs.
On the other side, I agree with you that Florida has met tougher teams to beat whereas the Rangers are just cruising around, but are about to get a hard stop in their playoffs.

The Rangers should have never won against Carolina. They were outplayed and outshot. Florida will devour them in 5.
Dallas is incredibly deep and smothered the Oilers in the regular season, but the Oilers are an offensive juggernaut. They are playing with incredible confidence and discipline. It goes to 7 in a high-scoring series with Oilers taking it in overtime.
Florida and Edmonton in the cup finals. Oilers take it decisively in 6.
Carolina had more dogged hustle and work ethic. But this approach has got them nothing yet

Regular season Canes had better Special teams than Rangers in BOTH (Carolina had number 1 PK and number 2 PP, Rangers finished number 3 in both PP and PK). However you wanna slice it, when it comes to special teams, Rangers have the edge, it’s how they have gotten this far. Special teams and Igor is how the Rangers win games. There are points you can argue that says Panthers are the better team, but those points are not going to involve special teams.

But we have seen the refs take away good goals from the stars so if the refs do their nonsense then I'd say yep oilers in a sweep on the other hand if the refs actually call things fair then the oilers.lose in 4.

Everyone is talking about how the Oilers are up against it, but no one is talking about how Edmonton has the top 4 scorers in the playoffs. Also Edmonton has the best special teams in the playoffs, maybe ever and Dallas is middling. Yes, I’d rather have Oettenger, but it’s not about who has the best goalie, but who has the hottest goalie.

oilers have more goals per game bc they didn't play a real team like VGK in the first round and they played an inexperienced team in the 2nd round, versus the stars who've played 2 very playoff experienced team with both starting goalies playing at least 2+ games. and thompson is a starting goalies. Vancouver and LAK didn't have goaltending.

I'm biased because I'm from South Florida and I love my Panthers. This team is solid, last year they got to the Cup and Vegas took their air out. Panthers got something proof and finish. I see, a Panthers v. Oilers Stanley Cup.
Not likely after the Stars took out Vegas and the Avalanche I think they might just be too deep for the Oilers to do enough damage Plus the Stars also have something to prove that these deep playoff runs weren't just a fluke this might be their year to finally hoist the cup after 25 years
@@devynlich00 Avalanche were awful this year, Knights would have won again if they didn't stop trying and lost 3 in a row taking them lightly.
Heiskanen and Tanev will keep McD and Draisaitl in check... after that, the Oil have very little depth. You can see it when they get in trouble - they load up a line with McD and Draisaitl and hope that they'll manufacture some offense.
Stars in 5... 6 at the most.
Is this the same Tanev who allowed Draisaitl to get 17 points in 5 games on one leg in 2022? Keep sleeping on the Oilers. This series is going to be much closer than most people think

Rangers are frauds, great team in the regular season but let's not forget that the Presidents Trophy once in the playoffs doesn't mean jacksh1t because literally 3 of the 4 teams left in the playoffs had about 5 points difference between all of them... which is literally 2.5 games won more than the others over a 82 games season... that's nothing and over a 82 games season you can't expect everyone to be healthy or try every game. Also c'mon they faced the Capitals in the 1st round and then almost choked vs the Hurricanes and easily could have lost that series as well because they won 3 games by 1 goal and like 2-3 in overtime and still lost 2 games (nearly 3). Rangers are not tough and will get exposed by a real team with grit, passion and physicality. Also I think the Oilers will surprise the Stars, especially if they win the first game in Dallas. Predicting an Oilers vs Panthers Final, could go either way but hard to bet vs McD and Drai in a cup final but Bobrovsky is the #1 goalie in the playoffs past 2 years, I'd not bet against this man! Panthers are scary all around.

I just wonder who the “nhl” is that wants the rangers .. can we get that in writing and have the “nhl” tell the refs to call some nice phantom penalties on the panthers and let the rangers just trip , and cross check , and board the panthers to death ?? Every one I’ve seen if these online pickers are all picking Florida because the rangers had a cakewalk with Washington and somehow the hurricanes who WERE the overall favorites to win the cup once the playoffs started are now just weak garbage the rangers just walked over .. amazing .. I’m just going to add one other thing .. the rangers are 17-2 when getting over 5 days rest starting with the Allstar break , but hey the rangers only played the garbage hurricanes while Florida beat the bruins who scored the fewest goals of the 8 remaining teams

I'm a Rangers' fan of 50 years and despite my love for them, I'm picking Florida to win it all. They are tougher and went to the dance last year. Bob hasn't been his usual self, so that's where I think Florida could be beat with Igor playing so well. I hope I'm wrong.
Only about 12 years for me but I agree. I think on paper Florida actually has a better team. The thing the Rangers have is the x-factor, more like 2 x-factors. Igor could steal a game, which bob can do do but i think igor has the edge, and also the Rangers truly are an opportunistic team. They have an overall conservative and defensive game plan and that's because they score in such varied ways. So far in the playoffs they very rarely have looked dominant, but they just find ways to score.

I am a Ranger fan for 30 years and unfortunately I can see Florida beating us however I still have to go with my team and say we will beat them in 7. Florida is tougher but I believe the combination of us not playing like pussies anymore, the power play , Igor, and luck seeming to be a bit more on our side recently will propel the Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals. From there we should beat either Edmonton or Dallas with relative ease after taking out Florida.

If I'm reading that correctly, people who picked the Oilers to win the west were far more likely to pick the Rangers than Panthers with their eastern pick...the pattern, I think, in this case, is that people who don't understand playoff hockey and pick Oilers to win the west, also make the same mistake while making their Eastern Conference pick of overrating the regular season and not having a strong sense of what it takes to win playoff hockey...Stars - Panthers final.
