I’m a big fan of Star Trek…Always will be. Ever since it first aired on TV, I have been interested in space and space exploration, wondering if something like this could actually be possible. As it is now, there is NO WAY for that to happen, humanity is lacking in the qualities it takes to survive such a venture. So what’s left is left to the imagination, hope and dreams of a future where people can actually get along without having a war monger society or where everyones hatred towards fighting against each other is left far behind in the past.
Our society needs to grow up if it ever wants to accomplish anything, and that includes taking better care of this planet…if it wants to explore the universe. This is so much far more important than what our society is currently doing today. How can anyone think about going elsewhere when all they do is continuously contribute their contamination and destruction of habitats, messing up this planet with its garbage, chemicals and corruptive processes and selfish behaviors with their own planet’s resources and ecosystems? This is on a genocidal level, whether going to another planet, or eventually bringing something back from the another planet, which causes further damages to our ecosystems and water resources. Life in space is quite complex and quite unlike what our planet is capable of sustaining…all the life as we know it, upon it. Example: how many species on our planet are living everywhere upon it? Unless in a zoo, these specific species occupy only certain areas where they can survive and thrive….Koalas indigenous to Australia….Panda species basically in China….Lions, Giraffes, Rhinos, Gazelles, etc. basically Africa….Anteaters and other species are in South America…. Komodo dragons are located on certain islands without people’s population on them. This goes for all birds and insects, including various types of plants which have a distinctive existence nowhere else than the habitats they occupied for eons. Marine species also have various places they exist and like all others, only occasionally will something happen to include a new species unknown from those already found.
The point is…humanity doesn’t handle this problem let alone trying to solve something like spaceship problems or space travel issues. Society is a baby playing with dangerous toys it knows NOTHING ABOUT.
FIRST…It needs the knowledge and the wisdom to understand the hidden dangers and consequences of its own actions upon the planet it calls home. SECOND…. It needs to correct its mistakes and behaviors before making any decisions or changes in its policies for future space exploration.
THIRD… It needs to address the real reasons for going elsewhere in space.
From what I’ve seen so far, it is NOT for knowledge, but the real reasons are those for greed and selfish, egotistical values and politics, motives for personal gains and power. One sided motives will NEVER work in space travel scenarios. It will fail and be doomed from the very beginning. 🖖

    • @lawsontroya
      @lawsontroya Před 4 měsíci +2

Ummm, okay. I think the war thing and selfishness and greed will work themselves out. People are good, individuals are at times corrupt. Wars happen at the whim of individuals. Let’s face it, no one wants wars because you could die, and nobody wants that. When we figure out how to travel in space then maybe we will find other cultures out there. We don’t know how to travel in space, sorry to say. Flying around in a dumpster don’t cut it. The way it is now, we have not set foot off planet yet. We won’t for the foreseeable future. Even NASA admits to many things which indicate that the Space Race was so much propaganda. The Van Allen belts are the main reason we have not left the Earth. How much lead would be needed? How much gas/propellant/rocket fuel would be needed to get the rocket out of the Earth’s gravity field? That is just one of those impossibilities that will keep us on the Earth for the foreseeable future!

The greatest anger I ever experienced as a child (or one of the greatest anyway) was when Star Trek was cancelled to cover a Gemini launch. Sort of ironic I suppose to react in such a way to having a piece of science fiction delayed in order to cover some actual science. For those who do not remember the time before cable, we only had three channels plus PBS and if there was a manned launch it was covered on all three networks. Not sure about PBS, it rarely had anything worth watching.

I was in my late teens when Star Trek started. Mr Spock WAS INDEED more popular than Shatner. And on any given day, you could hear students high school and college students on buses or subways talking about Mr Spock. Shatner's egocentrism was the problem in the show. He was always chasing after writers and directors to ask for changes for cameras to focus on him, whether he was talking or not. You seem to be hero-worshiping a tad too much.

@@user-dy7fd8of7l Mr.Shatner is an actor playing a role. I never confuse the actor with the role he playing.I don't admire actors for anything but their acting skill. The Kirk character was a like the privateers of Queen Elizabeth called collectively the Sea Dogs that raided the Spainsh main and explored the world. The English tradition of bold sailors continued throughout the age of sail accomplishing almost unbelievable exploits of daring do .Lord Cochrane who was Scottish lord with a shady reputation was a true hero in Latin American Wars of Liberation. Kirk was that type of guy .Cochrane was a raider type that specialized in lighting raids always doing the unexpected and unbelievable. In sense in the Kirk character that same audacious spirt. Cochrane was a great raider but was too impetuous and man of action to be a good Admiral, I think Kirk would have been the same way not someone who like staff work.

The captain was an extremely dynamic individual.
Spock was second in command to him as first officer.
Spock had no delusions or aspirations for the captains chair.
      They were close.
As close as you can get to a Vulcan.
Everybody I knew enjoyed Spock's content in each episode and movie, and book. But you need the Trio, Kirk, Spock and Mc Coy to have what they brought to the screen, or something was sorely missed.
Then add the other regular characters in varying amounts, and you have a show.
It was those three that worked toward each solution and reminded one another.
No other attempt in Star Trek has been quite like it.
The Trekkies I know, say similar things about it. If they don't call themselves Trekkies, consider they are different.

Why are you making the comment about Spock's saying to Janice Rand about evil Kirks attraction? It was episode in a TV show. It was written in the script. Whether he approved it or not he had to say what was written. Back in the sixties was a time when sexual innuendos weren't taken as seriously as now. People today have got to quit judging things from past by today standards, they were different then. Oh, don't call me a male chauvinist, I happen to be female & proud of it.

Yes, she was extremely smart and tryed her best to aid her captain. Even to the point to become part cabinboy and clean, bring his meals and inform the good doctor on his well-beings. To Bones great delights, having a inside girl watch him. Bones was the only crew member who know of her true age. It was a steal shame the writers did not fellow up on her greater degree and insight. What always puzzled me about Star Trek was that I never saw any toilets (restrooms) on the Enterprise. What exactly did crew members do when they needed to relieve themselves? This problem intrigued me for years, until 1979, when I availed myself of the lavatory in the library at Cardiff University. There was graffiti on the toilet wall that stated: 'Captain's Log, star date 23031979: beamed down for a shit'. Problem solved!: they defecated on the nearest planet. There was even a postscript to the graffiti: Checkov had added: 'Captain, shall ve use da bog paper to vipe out de klingons?'

Shatner did explain he had a big charity event scheduled for that day of Nimoy's funeral that would have destroyed the event if he cancelled. Certainly was a believable story. In the final year of Nimoy's life he didn't want his son to watch him die although allowed him to visit in the final days. I think that makes sense more than a sudden division between the two. I met Leonard Nimoy in 2010. I was so star struck I could barely look at him and only spoke about Shatner returning to Star Trek, not Nimoy at all. He was very kind and didn't treat me like many would, negatively or put off. I believe kindness was the reason for the separation between these good friends. In contrast I also met the actor Malcolm McDowell that murdered the Kirk character by saying Shatner should be returned to Star Trek. He looked at me like I was some sort of freaky fan that believed his character was really his personality. Well, it was true but why does he almost always take roles of the villain like in Clock Work Orange? He didn't like me because I didn't want to talk about him I would say. Met Brent Spiner and said the same thing also complaining about Data being killed off. He played right up to me saying," Ya they are killing us all off". I later read Spiner wrote and put a great deal into the movie Nemesis of when Data was killed off. It was his idea basically. He was still very nice to me, the poor fool I was.

According Herb S. one of the Executive Producers, NBC never objected to Number One being a woman. They objected to Majel Barrett playing the part because one they didn't think she go enough in the role and two they knew Gene was having affair with her and at that time didn't want it to apart of the cast. Gene told people NBC didn't want a woman in the role instead of wanting to tell the truth. Later he re-cast Majel to be nurse Chapel with a blonde wig thinking the execs wouldn't recognize her. But really by that time the execs didn't care because they knew the show wasn't going to last much longer on air. Funny.
