    I've had Mazda, Ford, GM, RAM, and Honda pickups.
    All different sizes. Two were Ridgelines, an 06 and my current 21 RTLE. Love it. It's not perfect, but it is super versatile. I tow a few thousand pounds with no problem. Roomy. Rides like a dream. Sometimes I think my 84 B2000 was the best of the bunch. I almost kept my 14 RAM 1500 Hemi regular cab, shorted. But it developed the infamous hemi tick even though it was meticulously maintained. Didn't trust the motor so I sold it.

    Even though CR is survey driven, it doesn not mean that it is a comprehensive assessment. Reliability is difficult to assess and cant be fully realized off of just one component out of the literal hundreds that make up a vehicle. It takes time to properly aggregate data on all the componentry that can prematurely fail and the rate of failure across the vehicle population.
    That being said this is just a survey based on ownership experience and not a case study conducted by professionals studying the reliability of these vehicles. Example, the Frontier is still a good truck, but like all of the vehicles on this list, it will have its share of problems. You as a potential buyer will need to use your discretion to identify which vehicle issues are tolerable for you as no truck or car out there will be problem free.

      gm still has a problem with over the air updates that brick both screens, the one with the electronic info like mph and it still has over the air updates that drain the battery over night and have to be towed to the dealer to manual update to fix, sometimes it fries the cpu for the truck and has to have the screens and or cpus replaced and can take months for the parts to be delivered. I am on the ColoradoFans forum and there were 3 or 4 waves of this happening on the 23' model and 1 or 2 waves of it happening on the 24' models. As long as there are over the air updates there is always a chance to brick your ride because they don't know it causes a problem until after they send the update, because they don't test the updates before sending to the public, if they did test them they would know they brick trucks 8 different times.
      if your screen with mph is blacked out, or your battery is drained and won't take a jump or charge and must be towed to the dealer then yeah I would call that a reliablity problem.

    • @ThomasVMan
      @ThomasVMan Před měsícem +3

      On older vehicles I'd agree with you. Except that nowadays, the infotainment system is tied to so many other functions of the vehicle. On some vehicles, the HVAC controls are integrated into the infotainment, so if that goes bad, you have no way to control the AC. Included with that is the digital screen for speedometer, tachometer, fuel indicator, etc. Those are pretty important for most drivers.

      @@Blue-moon12 Your single example does not represent every Frontier. There's no quicker way to show you don't grasp statistics than to cite your own vehicle as proof ALL of a model are reliable. Goodness, they taught this stuff in middle school.

If I had a point at all, it’s that even Nissan isn’t as primitive as ppl think, there’s still a lot of computer control modules in practically all modern passenger vehicles. Even tractors, dozers and lawnmowers now 🙄

      All it said was that there’s bugs in the touchscreen, and the paint chips, how is that not reliable?

      @@minksopro New vehicle buyers consider infotainment highly important. And depending on the truck critical functions are placed in the screen (see GM putting the headlights there, or say on a Ranger Raptor where the differential locks in the infotainment). The Frontier is slightly better on that front but if the infotainment is regularly having problems that will generate a high volume of claims. Consider if you're on a cross country trip and using the navigation or say Android Auto Google Maps... if the infotainment system has a bugs that is massively inconvenient. Also, you left out the rattles and "general concern about build quality." Which to me indicates these trucks are poorly assembled. The fact is the volume of complaints has to be very high for the Frontier to be at the bottom.

    So the Ford Ranger is the most reliable mid-size pickup truck then. Ridgeline isn't a truck.

    New turbo trucks are gay 😂 I got my 3rd gen Tacoma TRD off-road 4X4 6-speed manual. I take good care of it, change my fluids with amsoil & redline. Air filter & 🛢️ change & I put Carhartt seat covers front & rear hopefully she'll last at least 250,000 miles or 20yrs I keep it in the garage & drive about 10K per year. I rev it up hard sometimes but I think it's a high revving engine so we'll see how it fairs. Yeah it's slow I know it's not nothing to brag about but I've just heard good things and you can look up 300,000 mi Tacoma & find one on CZcams it's hard to find any of the other vehicles from the same year

    Initial reliability means little. Mid and Long Term is what counts. Tacoma has always had it, but not the Ranger. Ridgeline is a Honda Pilot SUV, not a true pickup. Bottom line: Tacoma will save owners money via retaining it's value better and needing fewer unexpected breakdowns/repairs.

      I own a Pilot and just test drove a Ridgeline hoping to replace my old Frontier. The Ridgeline is nowhere near the pilot. Maybe a passport truck hybrid, but feels awful compared to my 24 pilot.

      @@mikesawyer1336 I don't understand this comment. The back seat is smaller than the Pilot, the feature set and dashboard design of the Pilot are significantly different than the Ridgeline, and the Ridgeline driver seating position is lower to the ground than the Pilot. My only point is that I don't understand why people call it the Pilot truck, when the Pilot is significantly different.
      Yes, it's my opinion that the Ridgeline feels worse, but I don't understand how "time will tell" on that. Response was intended to address "Ridgeline is a Honda Pilot SUV, not a true pickup." If the Ridgeline felt as good as my wife's Pilot, I'd be driving one in a heartbeat.
