If there was a scene he had to do, and Alan thought Snape wouldn't do that, he didn't. The director had no problem with his deviation from the script either. What this means to me is, Alan's Severus Snape is THE ONLY AND REAL Severus Snape!! Not quite like the books, but not completely like the movies.
