    12:27 That's because you've been spoiled by Sabaton as a continent-sweeping powerhouse, but bands don't start that way. Sometimes they start as a bunch of awkward metalheads who just want to play cool shit, and then accidentally stumble upon something rare and unique that ends up turning them INTO a continent-sweeping powerhouse.
    You've also now unlocked permission to watch Sabaton memes... Cuz Meme-o Victoria is the most popular one lol.

But That fucking energy man.... sucked me right in, and before i knew it i was standing in the crowd jumping my ass off! I dont listen to sabaton at home, but every chance to see them live ... im There. You have to be there. Jumping in that crowd. Feeling Joakims energy and happiness that he sends out! Best live band ever! Glad to see you do this one, my favourite live song! Keep it up! Love your reactions ❤️❤️

    to think they managed to go from a handful of people in 2005 to the ocean at woodstock poland in only a matter of years is insane. to think those guys if off the rack leather would go on to double stage wacken is just mindblowing.

    • @ZappaSheik

  • @thanorodd5663

    Something I find really striking about this -- putting myself in Joakim's shoes, for example. Can you imagine being out on to the stage 7 years after that 2005 show, to perform the same song, looking out over a sea of 550k people? They all look so happy. I don't know if this was Sabaton's first "big" headlining show (probably not), perhaps they had already "made it" before this, but it still must have been so surreal for them.

    • @brigidtheirish
      @brigidtheirish Před 2 lety +11

      The way Joakim's grinning, I don't think it matters if it's their first "big" headlining show or not. He's in absolute *awe.*

    I love seeing this one next to a more recent performance to see how their performance has progressed. Not just their gear and production has increased, but you can see such a massive difference in Joakim's performance. His diction and stage presence are on a whole different level now. It lets you really appreciate how much they've progressed.

    • @Hellowenisti86
      @Hellowenisti86 Před 3 lety +5

      Joakim has massively improved stage presence but in my opinnion vocals had a bit more edge at the earlier version. But ofc all in all the more recent version is much better. :)

      @@Hellowenisti86 I prefer the clearer diction. To my mind, it work better for actually telling the stories of the songs, and the clarity with which he manages to communicate is very impressive given his lack of formal training and that most of the time he's not even singing in his native language.

A lot of people who smoke develop a kind of roughness to their voice, but if they give it up, that will become less over time due to healing from the smoke damage. It could be that it's just no longer a quality of his voice because of that.

    I'm so old that I attended that 2005 concert. This was my very first year at SRF. I went there to see Dream Theater, Rob Rock, Therion, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Some of the other bands that played that year were Accept, Angra, Anthrax, Megadeth, Motörhead, Within Temptation, Behemoth, Hammerfall, Kansas, Dio, Mötley Crüe and Pagan's Mind.
    I think I watched their gig from a bit of distance, since I never heard about them before. They've come so far since then, and they deserve all their success from all their hard work for over 20 years.

    Was lucky enough to see Sabaton twice (around 2008) when they were still playing in smaller locations compared to now. Just in a small space with a couple hundred people. To this day these concerts are under my absolute favorite concert experiances. The whole band makes the crowd feel so welcome and part of the performance. In one of these concerts Joakim inveted a litte boy on stage (probably between 10 and 14 years old) who was on his first metal concert with his dad. Then they played another song with the boy on stage having a great time.
    The next concert Joakim saw a guy in the crowd wearing a jacket exactly like his. He invited him on stage and actually traded jackets with him. You could really feel how they were having a good time and enjoying being on stage. This is what really made me fall in love with the band.

    I,ve seen them live twice on the Aland Islands at a small place called Dinos Bar. Fun fact, when I talked to the band members they asked me if I knew a guy who had moved from the Aland Islands to Falun. Yep I knew and I am a friend of said guy. When Sabaton was looking for a keyboard player in the beginning they asked my friend 'cause they knew he was talented and had played with Joe Lynn Turner and some other known musicians. My friend had gotten to know the guys in Sabaton while working with kids and teenagers in Falun. My friend declined 'cause he is more of a flower power guy and did not want to make music about war even in a historical way.

In case you weren’t already aware, I wanted to let you know that German “a cappella” (mostly) metal band Van Canto did an a cappella cover this song featuring Joakim. I think you’d get a real kick out of the cover! Van Canto are still going strong and they have an upcoming album with a recently released music video of the song “Falling Down” from that album. They’re signed with Napalm Records, so that should help with the reaction(s).

    It's interesting seeing the first do nothing for you, because I experienced the same thing when i watched you double react to 40:1 yesterday. I adore 40:1 and if I'm not listening to the album version I'm watching the Woodstock performance. But when you reacted to the Wacken performance first, which I'd never seen... I sat there feeling disappointed. It felt lacklustre and flat and I had no idea why; I've loved every other Wacken performance I've seen of Sabaton's, I love 40:1, they had old members and were using both stages for crying out loud! Why did it feel so hollow? Then you reacted to Woodstock and oh my god, it just does not compare. Five hundred and fifty THOUSAND Polish metalheads losing their minds over a song about their country's oft-overlooked historical triumphs, while the band feed off that insane energy... it just elevates the performance beyond anything that can be replicated. Sabaton at Woodstock was Sabaton Transcendent.

    By the way I've got the coolest order to extent your Unleash the Archers adventure:
    - Tonight we ride (omg Brittany what is your voice doing?)
    - Legacy (iconic goosebump lyric/story video)
    - Faster than Light (why I've get wet eyes?)
    - Northwest Pasage (is that folk man... are you serious?!)
    After that you should be totally expired to this band. I don't know what to think about their first album and some of the older songs with a little more unmelidous vocals, but I'll love after more hearing it.
    Meanwhile I am totally Archers slave, no days is passing, I don't hear one of their songs, focussed to their newest album

    Primo Victoria is the quintescensial Sabaton song. That's how I discovered them (alongside the "Cliffs of Gallipoli" song) back in 2009 and the song still holds a special place in my heart. :)

    @gatling216 Před 3 lety +3

    Primo Victoria is pretty much the quintessential Sabaton song. (It also happens to be my 7 year old daughter's favorite song in the whole wide world.) It's also the one that translates the worst from live performance to live video, because it relies a lot on the crowd and the energy of the venue to get the most out of it. When you're watching the video it's cool, but when you're in the pit, it's an experience.

    I was there at that show on Sweden Rock 2005. Me and my friend had never heard of Sabaton before and saw them only because some guy we had a few beers with the night before said that we should check them out. It was the first act of the second day, like 11 or so in the morning. I had a brutal hangover and it was already hot as Hell. I am so glad I got out of my tent to see them. They opened with “Panzer Battalion” and I was hooked from the start. Almost 20 years on, they are still one of my favourite bands and I think I’ve seen them live at least 7 times. This was my seventh year at Sweden rock. I wasn't supposed to go down to The festival area until later that day, but i was interested to take a look at a band that i had an burnt cd of that was called Sabaton, Fist for fight. I really liked that demo it had powermetal songs with kind of growly/guttural song, it was something new.
    Long story short, i went down and checked them out.
    I am somewhere in the middle of the crowd but i cant find myself in the video. Great experience and a great concert. Later that evening i saw another up and coming band on the same stage, Behemoth!

    In the first chorus of the first video my brain went blank for a moment - something was *off* but it took a moment to realize what. Yes, Joakim was singing the same words. Same pitch.
    Then it dawned to me - he did not have to compete against the crowd in singing the lines.
    I've just never seen Sabaton concert, live or video, where audience wouldn't push their lungs out at the chorus. Knowing the words. And correct rhythm.
    And trust me, I've seen more than few.
