- Enjoy this performance excerpt from The Jazz Ambassadors' tribute to the Greatest Generation! The production provides the soundtrack and stories of the brave men and women who served during the second world war as way to educate future generations about our nation's history. This Cole Porter classic was originally made famous by clarinet virtuoso Artie Shaw's swing-style recording in 1938, and artists from Frank Sinatra to Sheryl Crow would go on to cover it. Featured soloists are Sgt. Major Andrew Layton on clarinet and Master Sgt. Patrick Shook on tenor saxophone.

This is the best and beautiful music from my mom and dads generation too. I grew up with these songs playing in my home in 1944, and to this day, I still love and play them. I have my dads Albums, a few handfuls and I still play them.

Amen to your comment. I also get sad when I think about my grandparents generation that sacrificed so much during WW2 and how my grandpa put his life on the line and earned a purple heart, and yet I am ashamed of what the modern world has become. If those veterans knew what our world would become would they have been willing to lay down their lives for it? My grandpa never seemed to begrudge that or be offended by anything, but he was the kind of person who wouldn't necessarily let anyone know what bothered him. In addition, he seemed to be able to shrug off any troubles so easily and carry on with his life.
