Yes the two country parks Sywell & Pitsford Reservoir are about the only places you can spend more than an hour at without being relieved of your cash. These places are lovely, well except when the weekend crew turn up & start leaving their rubbish everywhere. Northampton in general has good pubs & cafes but if you're not spending money continuously they want you out so other people can sit there. The nightlife is like a welsh mining town, all the yokels come in from the villages & fight with the county lines gangs from London outside McDonalds.
Sywell area is good, not just the country park, the village has a nice pub & you can see Spitfires etc swooping low over the pub garden. Other than that Northampton is boring, would say good location for getting to other places but the public transport isn't as good as it used to be.
