    Sensible list, but I would ditch the 3 kg "Ludvig" backpack and use something more comfy and high tech. My excellent Mystery Ranch Pintler 41 L backpack weighs the same as yours and would be my choice, I guess.

    Enjoyed watching your video. I too walked the Camino Frances last year (in Septemeber) and will be walking the Portuguese this year from Lisbon in May. I have also done the Nijmegen 4-day march! Your packing was very similar to mine. I used a water bladder system that worked for me but understand the pros and cons of bladders and bottles. Good discussion on blister care. The one point I would emphasize to anyone about to do a camino is to work out all the issues before you leave, that means walk, walk, walk before you go. I did have a blister during my preparation for the camino but had it all sorted out before I left and never had a blister during my camino. Figuring out what works and what doesn't before you go will pay off tremendously.

      I will do the Portuguese Central this year, starting last week of June. Then I will go directly from Santiago to Nijmegen. There I will walk as military. I you see me/my backpack please si Hi.... but of course, we know how many people there are and what the chances are🙂

    Having walked the Camino Frances this past Sept/Oct, I can attest that your list of recommended items is a very good one, and in my opinion one of the best. Thank you and Buen Camino.

    If you're going to make the way from Lisbon, you'll have to pass through Coimbra. Maybe I can give you a hug 😊. Buen next Camino.

    Thank you for sharing lots of interesting info, and of course, I just have to watch all your videos from the Camino.
    I am curious about one thing though:
    How much did your backpack weigh when you walked the Camino?

    • @thewalkingveteran
      @thewalkingveteran  Před rokem +2

      Happy you enjoyed 🙂
      My backpack was about 14kg... that was including water i started with every morning.. It's an old backpack, I think empty it weights about 2.5 kg. So with fokus on keeping wight low it's not good. But I like it and it's what I'm used to... on my Camino Portuguese this summer, I will bring more or less exactly what I had last year (in this videos), but also sunglasses, and maybe a small sleepingbag if I decide to spend a night or more outside...

    We really enjoyed this video and it helped us be ready to do the Camino Portuguese. Can you give an advice or reports about your experience with water sources along the way? Generally safe? You don’t mention iodine or other water purification…
    Thanks!

    • @thewalkingveteran
      @thewalkingveteran  Před 8 měsíci

      Happy you enjoyed... It was no problem with water... I brought with me 1.5l every morning (2x0.75l). I drink well before I start (about 0,5l) so I don't start drinking from my water just 5 min after starting. There are many places to get water, and I try to remember to make sure both my bottles are full when I leave. I of course don't take water form fountains that are just for decoration or when there is a sign saying it's not drinking. Anyway bring enough when u start, and u will find plenty on the Camino. (Don't be shy to ask at a pub/Cafe if u really need some)

    I am relying on your advice but I see that some things are for summer, do you have a video in which you recommend what to wear in winter? I leave from Ponferrada in April and it seems that there will be snow and cold in some places.....

    • @thewalkingveteran
      @thewalkingveteran  Před rokem +1

      Sorry but, my experience is from walking during summer... So I could do some guesses if what to update... but since only being a guess it would not be an advise based on experience - as the video. I there a no videos like this for winter walks, I would message some of the people you see on FB groups doing winter Caminos.

    Thanks

    • @thewalkingveteran
      @thewalkingveteran  Před rokem

      Hi... I use a Scrubba washbag (can easily recommend it).... and dry by hanging the laundry up (no secret there😉)
      (you will see me use the washbag in one of the episodes of my Frances last year)

    Even tho you were in single rooms you still needed a towel? Or was that just for the albergues?

    • @thewalkingveteran
      @thewalkingveteran  Před 5 měsíci

      That is just in Albergues... when ever in hotel there are towels. (but I would bring a lightweight towel just in case, since you don't know that you always would get a hotel. Single rooms in Albergues can also be nice (enough))

    Guy sounds like a polish.
    The shoes are a gay overload.
    You don't need all the crap.
    I wore an old pair of running shoes, on the plane, in the trail, in the auberge, everywhere... but they were running shoes, gel padding in the sole, no problems at all on my whole Camino.
    Just bring one change of under clothes in your pockets. You don't need a back pack.
    Your not in the Rockies.
    Anything else you need.... BUY IT THERE....
    Spain is a developed country for crying out loud!
