Matty looks so so healthy and I feel like we’ve watched them mature before our eyes just like they’ve watched us go from bright-eyed 14 year olds to full grown adults. This song felt like sitting down to coffee with an old friend. Can’t wait for the album.
Couldn’t have said it better myself, this is golden
There is something I don't like about him. He never shows any emotions or reactions, just bored. Like this ugly little guy thinks he is too cool for this world
yeah that's exactly the vibe
That is so trueee
This is so perfectly said.
Can’t believe this is the same band I used to listen to when I was 14 , it’s fascinating and so beautiful the relationship that the 1975 has with us , we are getting older , and evolving , so is the sound . I loved them back when I was in school and I love them even more now , when I’m 22.
🥲
I know, I can't believe this is the same band I refused to listen to when I was 12, I heard chocolate and I hated it, but this sound is so nostalgic, and I'm so glad I gave them a second chance when ABIIOR came out, it feels like the culmination of what Music for Cars was, it feels like a natural evolution, yet I didn't see it coming at all. I'm so in love with this song.
I can 100% relate
literally same.
First time i've listened them I was 16, i'm 27 now and trust me, it gets better
This man went from “I’m not giving it up again” to “I’ve not picked that up in 1,400 days and 9 hours and 16 minutes.” Good for him
what did he meant by that?

Pretty mad at Taylor because a week ago I didn't know MH existed and now I repugnantly find him attractive and like the band.
I started listening to The 1975 when I was 12. I’m 21 now. These guys were the first band whose music I’d ever fallen in love with. The first album I’d listen to the whole way through. The first concert I went to. The band that I listen to when I need to cry, a pick me up, a dose of nostalgia. These guys made me fall in love with music and for that I’ll be forever grateful for them.
Yesssss!! Ive been listening too ever since 2012-13.. they are definitely the best at pulling on all your emotions
Same here. Same here. :”)
Yeah, they are definitely a “ coming of age “ band
It’s like a right of passage.
u summed it up perfectly. i feel the exact same way
How many times can you fall in love with the same band?? This felt like coming home..like a hug from a best friend you’ve been away from for too long.

Wtf
I’m crying
It’s been 2 years…
true
I graduated high school in 1975. It's comforting to see that bands still use guitars and drums, and that the singers still wear long black coats and have those short-on-the-side-long-on-the-top hair styles.

I started listening to The 1975 back in 1835, I was 105 years old then, I'm now -275 years old and I still love them!
Haha damn that's so good
I'm 1000 and can remember when they were huge in 8000 B.C.
So the 1975 was supposed to be some kind of futuristic band when they first started? Today I learned.
I remember watching them with the 🦣
Great
This band always manages to surprise me. The string arrangement is just great.
Im recently turned 50 and this song has absolutely lit my musical fuse again. Music is back baby, this is the good stuff. First listen is cleaning your ears out of all the drivel of the last decade , after that its pure bliss. I think I have listened to this song at least 30 times in the last couple of weeks
There is more great music than ever being made, you just have to dig a little deeper.

youre lucky, I had tickets for that april and never got to go 😔 it was like my fourth time seeing them but still lmao heartbreaking
Same!! In Leeds
The 1975 is one of the very few bands in popular music that can still surprise me with each new album. This is such a great track, completely not what I was expecting and I'm here for it.
I'm literally blown away. Relatively new to the band, but currently immersed. This song is such a different sound omfg. 10/10+ proud of them for growth/change!
i'm in love with this vibe. cannot wait for the album 😊

Omg hello dad
so so different from what they’ve ever done before but you can still tell it’s them. they make such beautiful music and you can feel the love they put into it.

Definitely not the typical The 1975 fan. 47 year old hetero black American hip hop head who works in the railroad industry. The first time I heard the band was on SNL playing “The Sound” & “Somebody Else”. Something about that performance made me want to go deeper into their discography & I’m glad I did. “Chocolate”, “Ugh”, “Too Shy” just to name a few. Love the rawness & honesty in Matty’s writing, the determination to make the statement regardless of how it’s received to serve a purpose. & the band brings that scene/background to the lyrics that display any emotions that would be impossible to convey otherwise. & the most fascinating aspect of this band is its complicated balancing act of being a pop music icon & all the demands of that title, while remaining true to itself & its craft. That’s the real feat, that’s one thing most artist have trouble doing. Because though success is the goal it also taint the recipe if that makes since. 😊
Lol me either... 50 yr old white woman.. fell in love when i heard Chocolate..this is one of those rare bands for me where i like nearly every single one of their songs.. theres just something i identify with in the lyrics.. & of course day dreaming i was 20 yrs younger & Matty is my boyfriend lol

It is thanks to this album and TTPD that I began to understand how special their bond was. How they maybe were twin flames, artistically. Both Tortured Poets.

Love that I never know what to expect from this band. First single from their second album was Plastic Soul era Bowie/INXS/Prince-inspired pop song, third album had a first single that sounded like Joy Division, fourth album had a first single that was inspired by industrial and nu-metal music. Love that artists existing in the mainstream realm take big creative swings like these guys do. Their is no typical 1975 sound. The defining feature of the band’s sound to me is that there is no defining sound.
i’m over 50 & just discovered them… & i’m lovin’ ‘em! great, original sound!
I think you will feel the same as me , there is a maturity in this song we only could get pre millennium, Paul Simon , touches of the Eagles , Springsteen and others too vast to write down . Songwriting has become a soulless art form where melodies are created for the instant fix generation , then it disappears for another one.
This song appears to stop and take a look around and allow us over 40 to catch up and enjoy , there will be new bits to like on every play through, I will certainly be taking time to go through the back catalogue and a little investigation into the lead singer and writer.
This is a song that instantly goes into the classics section I think , I've found one or two others so far as well , it's going to be enjoyable discovering this "new" band
I just know this is going to be on repeat until October 🖤

The song gives vibes of taking a step back from everything, living in the moment and appreciating it. You could think about the meaning behind it all day

Huge Jack Antonoff / Bleachers fan and a 1975 fan. So thrilled to see them finally collaborating together. Matty is such a beautifully honest songwriter. That final verse, doesn’t get much better than that.
The production reminds me a lot of 91 by Bleachers. Can tell almost immediately how involved Jack was with the production.
Brilliant single and cannot wait to see what is next with Being funny in a foreign language.
Side note: The 1975 are the best band in the world at selecting album titles.
I am a fan of the Bleachers and The 1975 too.. I was thrilled when I learned that Jack Antonoff was producing this album. When 91 first came out I listened to it on loop, you can definitely hear a hint of that in this song. So glad to have come across your comment, to see that someone likes the same bands as I do.
Glad I’m not the only one. About You sounds like a child of 91 and Chinatown in a good way. Thanks to getting know Jack produced this album I’ve discovered such a Great band.
This is indeed a lot like 91, wow.
I’ve heard people say they don’t really like it but to me it’s art. I love how they made Matty’s vocals so raw. And the lyrics are amazing again. [Pre-Chorus]
A Xanax and a Newport
"Well I take care of my kids", she said
[Chorus]
The worst inside of us begets
That feeling on the internet
It's like someone intended it
(Like advertising cigarettes)
A diamond in the rough begets
The diamond with a scruff you get
[Outro]
Am I ironically woke? The butt of my joke?
Or am I just some post-coke, average, skinny bloke
Calling his ego imagination?
I've not picked up that in a thousand four hundred days
And nine hours and sixteen minutes, babe
It's kind of my daily iteration

This song definitely perfect for long night drives
You can already imagine listening to it while riding along a long road without traffic at night or late afternoon..
@@reezedumalo345 definitely.. can't wait for the album release
viva la vida pt.2 🤟🏻
This is one of those rare, generationally great songs. So good
The line “I like my men like I like my coffee, full of soy milk and so sweet he won’t offend anyone” makes a little part inside of me die every time I hear it.
Totally, everyone knows oat milk is best for coffee. Soy usually curdles and is better suited to tea 😅
@@EclipseDj as a barista, I totally agree with you 😂
Staining the pages of our nation....
He's mocking those people, the entire lines are:
I know some "Vaccinista tote bag chic baristas"
Sitting east on their communista keisters
Writing about their ejaculations
"I like my men like I like my coffee
Full of soy milk and so sweet, it won't offend anybody"
Whilst staining the pages of the nation, oh, yeah
@@eastwood4006 I think it's "of The Nation" which is type of classically progressive periodical. The way coffee stains a newspaper. As opposed to the topic of the next verse, being lost in and overwhelmed by "that feeling on the internet."
I could see why people wouldn’t vibe with it but i personally love this new sound
literally this is so good anyone who dislikes this is boring as shittt
i'm one of those people, but yeah i can for sure get why people like it a lot
This one didn't grab me at first. Just like every other song they've ever released aside from Somebody Else, Sex, and The Sound. I don't know why I can't seem to get this band on the first pass, but every time I let it sit for a few weeks, it somehow grows into something that narrates my life, thoughts, and feelings. They're magicians, as far as I'm concerned.
@@snapjackal agreed, after the third play it's definitely starting to grow on me.
there’s just no hook or catchy melody that i like them for, more of like a reading w instruments behind it
This gives me bon iver, Simon and Garfunkel, folk indie energy. Idk it’s so good and I am HYPED for this new era for the 1975.
Exactly this!!
Even some Dave Mathews Band vibe
The break down at around 3 minutes is sooo Bon Iver.
Yeah big Bon vibes
I was gonna say Paul Simon FOR SURE!
They are just like muse perfect music perfect album and perfect people
I can relate to this.
we live in a world where ours lives were mediate by internet/imagination/desires. Imagine a person turning off your computer and open the door, just living the real world, strugle with the real problems... lose friends, parents, mental wealth...chaos never been so real.
This song is raw, from the heart- seeing how far Matty has come since his addiction is awesome
All these new fans of TS saying matty is bad for her and bashing matty y'all dont get it. If you've been a fan of the 1975 since 2013 and of taylor since 2009 you'll get their romance. if i was one of em I'd be enamored of the other, too.
The 1975 are the first band since the Beatles to explore so many sounds and still sound distinctly like the 1975. This song- Part of the Band, is their "Eleanor Rigby." It's a masterpiece. Too good for its own good.
that's exactly how I feel about it, I get strong Beatles vibes for some reason
Man, this band has been such an influence in my life. It seems like every album release comes in a time I'm reinventing myself. Let's see how this one goes.
Enough about you now 😂
Am I the only one who is genuinely in love with this track? It's smooth, folksy, and experimentally Beatlesque. You can definitely hear the Jack Antonoff production in this record; ie 91, Foreign Girls, the entirely of the Saturday Night record. So stoked that they're moving in this direction!
Me too, it's so great!
I heaaaard and went down looking for his name.. Bcs it just sounds like a cover of some bleachers songs, like sometimes it slides from Matty/the1975 way of singing to the way Jack antonoff sings in all of his work and also the instruments he often uses... I tried to checkout the comments but found no one who said anything
Jack didnt produce this tho, and its more of a Rostam/VW vibe
@@hoemogenic i just read a post by a magazine and they said it's truly CO-produced by Jack.. As i said you can hear some MFC notes in there
@@hoemogenic I can hear the Rostam, but Jack actually was a producer on the track.
3:18 This will be one of the 1975s greatest outros imo no doubt!
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one thinks that
this one and the birthday party. hypnotic
I m obsessed with this part!!!
for real i can not get enough of it
I have a Rimbaud drawing by Picasso as a tattoo. I love this reference in the lyrics.
This is so pure. A real natural progression for the band. Musically gives me vibes of ‘22, a million’. I feel like the album will match the season.
i was thinking to myself too that it was very much giving bon iver !
Exactly what I was thinking... lyrically 8 (circle), and musically 33 "GOD"... not in any pejorative sense, but simply in that it works the same part of my brain. Also, emotionally, feels much like the title track of Phoebe Bridger's Punisher.
FEEL LIKE IM IN A GROWING, HEALING AND ACCEPTING PHASE EVERYTIME I LISTEN TO THIS SONG
Compare this to Matt Healy's / the 1975 videos that are black and white. She has recreated a lot of their imagery.
I met my closest friend today, who is a big the 1975 fan as well, we are watching this video now together (virtually) to mark one year of this video and our friendship.
Have a successful life, dearest friend. You are my favourite :))
The past two years have been dark, but there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel: The 1975.
Thank you. We needed this. ❤️
For what it’s worth, listening to Notes on a Conditional Form when it first came out from beginning to end was one of the more memorable moments during my pandemic quarantine.
I did the exact same thing! I sat outside on a chilly fuckin night when it came out and listened to the whole thing through under the stars. Definitely a light in the dark moment.
I did that and so did my brother. We took turns using headphone and I personally did love NOACF 🧡
I’m so obsessed with this song it’s been on repeat since the day it was released 🥺
It took a while. Then the brilliance of this composition took hold in my mind. Found myself humming it to myself. Too good for words
This song is so beautiful. It's crazy I can feel so connected to someone I've never met that doesn't even know I exist. I guess that's the beauty of music. I've been growing with them for years now. I'm emerging into a new phase of my life around the time this album comes out and I can't express how happy I am to have their music by my side through it all. Lemme go lie in bed and listen to this on repeat 🥲
My ex girlfriend introduced me to this band. We have since broken up. But every time I hear Matty’s voice, I get very fond memories of my time with her. Thank you the 1975 for making timeless music, you will never be forgotten.
Same thing here.. how i do miss those days with her
@@wafaasaghban755 I feel you man. It’s going to be weird when I sing robbers and think of her and all the times we kissed to that song. Life is hard sometimes. But in the weirdest sense It feels good to feel. I think Matty once said “Happiness is overrated”. I think there is some merit to that.
There's even "The Black Dog" in this video.
Fortnight crown?
I can't believe they're releasin music in the genre that I love most sonically, alternative folk with seemingly ordinary yet profound lyrics. Can't wait to hear more from the album. Jack Antonoff's influence is acknowledged.
Strange. Original. Bizarre.
How many masterpieces do this band have to release before people learn to just trust and enjoy the process?
Deep. Introspective & full of references… oh Matty, never change… or always change… whatever you’re doing, we’re here for it ❤️
This aint all that original when you realize this sounds like a bon iver replica track
I like how they've seem to grow in wisdom and style
if you think this is strange, original and bizarre you need to listen to more music.
More than original it´s innovative, since the Beatles influence it´s present in the instrumentation, arrangements, switching tempo, metric and punctuation in words. Still sounds modern and has their (1975) essence.
I don’t follow the drama. Do people not like the 1975? I know people just don’t know about them
@@mistered-intro for a pop band, this is very left-field compared to most other artists. keep that context in mind; this is a pop band.
Missing the boys 😭 and I'm glad that I can listen to another masterpiece of theirs. Love u The 1975
okay i'm AMPED for this era. after NOACF, I wasn't sure where they would go next (always excited for it though). but this is beautiful. truly, always amazed that they continue to evolve and change their sound. every album holds a place for me, and i've been able to connect with each album at different points in my life. I believe that kind of artistry is one-of-a-kind.
The reason I love this band so much is because no matter what style of music they do they literally kill it, absolutely love this song and I’m so so excited for the album 🫶
Whilst not a tune for me, I love how these guys are always trying something a little different and doing it really well. I was also delighted to see the return of the sax guy, killing it as always. Looking forward to hearing more new material!
his name is JOHN
My only dislike of this song is that it’s called “part of the band” yet it’s not 4 minutes straight of nothing but singing the praises of Mr John Waugh, everyone’s favourite member of the band who is canonically part of the band and also my dad (not a lie)
@@lachlanrussell18 if this is true then tell your dad that he is absolutely utterly rad!
@@itsmemichelle6411 it was a joke lmao, I just want him to adopt me. He’s actually pretty low profile and responds to DMs tho so I have chatted with him, he’s a chill and down to earth guy who’s hella talented
@@lachlanrussell18 you big smelly liar! Haha, but one thing is defo true, as you say, he is hella talented!
I hope this song comes to have a regular spot in their live sets, I think it's destined to be a classic in their varied and considerable catalogue.
their sound is so unique ugh the 1975 is so incredible i will never stop stanning them
I really like the fact that this song took me off guard and I don't quite know how to process it yet. That's a sure sign that it's going to grow on me AND that they are keeping it so fresh and not getting into a predictable rut. I love having something to mentally chew on. BRAVO, boys.
Why do people say shit like this lol. It's as if you're trying to con yourself that this isn't garbage. Did it take you 20x listens to think "Somebody Else" "Heart Out" or "Ugh!" was a great song? I highly, highly doubt it. You knew you were listening to greatness immediately. This isn't some advanced songwriting masterpiece that you can't process - it simply isn't good. They're destroying their legacy with this drivel and everyone knows it. The market doesn't lie - and the market shows that they've nosedived since the second album. Goddamn shame what's happened to this band.
@@TheBrianna4555 the last thing any genuine creative should do is to create for their audience. the work of creatives has never been for anyone except for the creative themselves, and the audiences are entitled fools if they become angry that “their” creative has stopped producing the artwork they’re used to. if you don’t like the artwork (this song), that just speaks to your taste, not the validity and quality of the artwork.

This is breathtaking. Subtle Radiohead vibes meets disorienting string arrangements reminiscent of Bittersweet Symphony. This is the sound of a band that evolved and is still yet to do so much more. ❤️

Er yo go everyone.
[Verse 1]
She was part of the Air Force, I was part of the band
I always used to bust into her hand in my, my, my imagination
I was living my best life, living with my parents
Way before the paying penance and verbal propellants and my, my, my cancellation
Hm, yeah
[Verse 2]
And I fell in love with a boy, it was kinda lame
I was Rimbaud and he was Paul Verlaine in my, my, my imagination
So many cringes and heroin binges, I was coming off the hinges
Living on the fringes of my, my, my imagination
Oh, yeah
[Interlude]
Enough about me now
"You gotta talk about the people, baby"
But that's kind of the idea
[Bridge]
At home, somewhere I don't like
Eating stuff off of motorbikes
Coming to her lookalikes
I can't get the language right
Just tell me what's unladylike
[Verse 3]
I know some Vaccinista tote bag chic baristas
Sitting in east on their communista keisters
Writing about their ejaculations
"I like my men like I like my coffee
Full of soy milk and so sweet, it won't offend anybody"
Whilst staining the pages of the nation

It is SO good, a very matured sound imo but it's just so them if that makes sense. Ngl was scared reading those lyrics at first thinking how will this work as a song but it works perfectly they're always one step ahead that's why they're my favorite 🖤🖤🖤
Frrr, I never thought this would be the sound. Reminded me of Phoebe Bridger's but in a 1975's kind of way :]]]
This song has been on repeat for me this past month I love it sm… man I’ve missed them and matty‘s sweet voice. This era‘s starting off beautifully.
Swifties, there’s “The Band” on the drum.
The lyrics, the arrangement, the visuals... the sax. It's been too long. This is what we all need right now.
Wow! How do they create an entirely new vibe and sound every single time they start a new era, but also somehow stay true to what makes them them? I'm genuinely blown away by how wonderful this song is and October 14th seriously can't come soon enough! ❤️
I'm old and love my 80s but this band can do no wrong in my eyes.. Amazing to have some musical talent displayed these days.. ❤️❤️💖.. In my eyes music hasn't been decent since 70s and 80s apart from the odd gem here and there.. But at 40 yrs old I'm happy to hear The 1975's stuff. x
