  • In November I bought myself the Etchr Field Case and have been LOVING it, so today I'm sharing information about it as well as how much can fit in and how I've actually been using it on a daily basis since buying it.
Is it the best art supplies case available? Maybe. It really depends on your needs. But I know that for me and how I'm using it, it is a REALLY good option.
*You can find the Etchr Field case on:
    Amazon US: amzn.to/46LxzLq

I have a bag like that and the front pocket is perfect for your pencil board (shitajiki). The bands on the back, hold your sketchbook or two or a book and pencil tin. My version holds my sketchbook and my 12 tin of watercolor pencils , if you take out the divider you can fit your 24 pencils.

Oh, I think it would Kylie. Mine currently goes everywhere with me (outside the house) and it is soo easy to just slip in my bag. With the strap, you could also easily hang it over the side of the bed head rest and have easy access (if the staff let you of course). Hope all goes well with the surgery Kylie! ❤️❤️❤️

Been wondering about these...thanks for the review. I have two Sendak Pencil Rolls. The grey one for my colored pencil set up and the moss green one for my watercolor set up and they are worth every penny, so well made. I'm really curious to see what you create with your version of the roll.

Oh my, I love the sound of keeping one for each setup. I’ve been asked what if like for Christmas, and I nearly asked for a Sendak.. but truth be told, I need a filing cabinet more! 😆 Especially as I’ve almost finished my faux sendak! 👀😘

Did you ever watch Jazza. - he’s an Australian CZcamsr with millions of viewers. He does some interesting things - making things - it’s a bit cartoon illustration - I like him … all to say he put out two bags for holding art supplies - and you can get 1 or both empty or filled - it’s a thing where you pay into the project but he has a lot of people so it took off. I got both filled… and will get them in Amsterdam some time in January… just to chat…
Bad times here - every day trying to find out actors and trainees and knowing they are all on the run… the theatres in NL are doing some Gaza Wake I think it’s done in Groningen but have a look… warmest!!!!

The front pocket is really pointless. All the inside loops and pockets encourage you to fill it up, and then the outside no longer functions as a pocket. I managed not to overpack mine for once and it’s still the same.

    • @EveAshford

It really is. Perhaps the only function it may serve is to slide in a business card? But who uses those nowadays? 🤪

I make all my own rolls, field cases, pochade etc. I prefer to make my own because:
    A) SAVINGS. - For what these "handmade small business" people charge I can buy the materials, tools and labor for less than half of what they charge. Especially blank & blank. They must believe their time more valuable than a heart surgeon.
    B) QUALITY - many of the handmade people seem to have the incorrect belief that handmade equals imperfections. This is so far from the truth is laughable. Handmade means perfection, attention to detail, quality materials combined with quality construction. When these parameters aren't met its given for the cost of materials. One doesn't charge labor for imperfection. Because that imperfection is part of learning to do it right. It's the very difference between a machine stitched quilt and a hand sewn quilt. These mom & pop shops today seem to have either forgotten that or never knew it in the first place. I wouldn't buy a "blank" roll at half the price. Reason being: it's machine stitched. Leather and canvas should NEVER be machine stitched. Never ever. Why? Same reason a quilt should never be machine stitched. Machine stitching is too tight. It doesn't allow for movement when these strong textiles are under pressure, expand or contrast with the elements. Hence why leather, canvas, vinyl, etc always rip at the seams on machine made products. The stitching doesn't give way. The material does. Hand stitching can be just as precise but have enough play to allow the materials to breathe. Even if one never uses the blank & blank product; even if they just put it on a shelf over time the material will give and fall apart at the seams. It's the difference between a super model wife and a good woman wife. One looks good on your arm, but can only give you pleasure 3 minutes or of the day. Whereas a good woman can help you succeed in any situation. She becomes an extension of yourself and forces you to want to be better in every way. She can make you laugh, comfort your sorrow, hold you up as you build your skills, have a conversation, make you always appear to be better than you are.
    C) CUSTOMIZATION- no matter what the product there is it's never the perfect match. However, when one makes it themselves they can customize it to their very specific needs.
    D) THE SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT- when one makes their own products they know the first one may not be prefect, but they'll always have the skills to now make it prefect for them.
    E) COMMUNITY - when you create your own and it functionality is excellent you can't help but want to share it with your like minded friends. Even customize to their needs.

Hi Phillip. Please don't take offense as none is intended, but I completely disagree with several points you made, and I do so as a designer / maker myself.
      A) Savings: I don't think anyone who makes items believes that their time is more valuable than a heart surgeon. What myself (and many others do) is assign an hourly rate to our time to make sure that we are in fact earning money and not making items to sell at a loss. When you factor in the energy used (electricity is not as cheap as it was), the use of more sustainable and non-exploitative materials (I aim for organic, fair trade and bought as close to home as possible) as well as the costs that you as a non-business owner don't have - overheads are an actual real thing from the tools and their upkeep to marketing efforts and more, and we need to price that into the cost of how many sales we expect (and can realistically make) in a year. Otherwise there is no business, we're just giving products away at a loss and risk becoming broke in the process. So I do find this point quite offensive and unfair. Yes there are some brands who add a 'premium' in order to come across as a luxury brand, but this happens across all the product areas, from art materials to clothing, furniture and more.
      B) Quality: This is not realistic. Humans are humans. We make mistakes. We make errors. If we threw away every item made because of a small imperfection cause by a REAL human making it, there would be far more waste in the world than there already is. I get where you're coming from - you expect to have absolute perfection if you are handing over your money - but I think you're being too harsh and unfair, and perhaps valuing your money more than the effort involved. I myself have sewn many leather garments. And guess what? I've only ever used a machine. If I were to hand sew the leather it would take significantly longer and no-one would be willing to pay the cost of it, because while I do not charge heart surgeon prices, I do make sure that I am paid fairly for my time. And actually, when you sew with a machine, and the correct settings and you understand how the thread and the leather work, you can sew successful garments that last for many, many years without a single stitch popping.
      C) Customization: Agreed, customizing something to your exact needs can be the overall winner when it comes to making or buying an item.
      D) Sense of accomplishment: Again, I agree with this. When I make my own items (clothing or accessories) for myself or my clients, I have a great sense of accomplishment at achieving what I see as a 'close to perfect' item... and that includes any small imperfections that are part of a human making it.
      E) Community: again, agreed to a point.
Thank you for taking the time to comment.

@@EveAshford I took no offense and meant non. The entire reason people turn to the Amish, antiques, etc is for perfection in quality, durability. I guess that's just the difference in thinking between my generation and those that followed. The titanic was just carved wood and linoleum but it was hand crafted to such perfect perfection we still talk about it's exquisitness today. People aren't running out to by particle board furniture because it's cheap or it lasts. They do it because they don't know any better. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings or your business. I didn't even realize you had a business other than the infomercial CZcams game. And by golly good on you for it, but it's absolutely okay to disagree. But while doing you be honest. Your time isn't any more valuable than anyone else's. Your eco friendly nonsense is simply marketing. If you believe in any of that crap you wouldn't be driving, using electric at all and you'd bathe in rain water. You certainly wouldn't be wearing clothing made from anything other than linen, oh wait, the soil was seeded with the bones of trillions of dead animals. Scratch that. You wouldn't be wearing clothes. I get that this new religion makes people feel good about themselves but the idea that it should cost more to make one feel like they mattered is just that, religion. Again, I don't mean any of this maliciously. My autism won't allow for the emotion required to be malicious or hateful. I'm a fact driven rational "machine"basically. So please don't take offense. Like I said, I wasn't even aware you had a business. What is your business btw?

This is an expensive case. I have some that are almost identical and a LOT cheaper!

    • @EveAshford
      @EveAshford  Před 6 měsíci +3

Yeah, I think some of the cost is probably based on location - it’s an Australian ‘premium’ brand. Even their sketchbooks are expensive. But, I think it’s also ok to treat yourself sometimes if you take joy in a hobby, and want something that feels special to you. 😘

    • @maryhazlett

@@EveAshford I treat myself a lot. I've looked at this and the larger easel thing. It's not that I don't like them - I'm not criticizing your review or trying to discourage anyone from buying. They have great products. I have some things which are similarly made, about the same size, and have better use of space. However, I primarily use my ArtToolkit, supplemented at times by accessories from Tom Bihn.
