This is awesome. I only saw one O’s game at Memorial Stadium. It was in 1978 when I was 12 years old. I will never forget it. I was (and still am) a huge Orioles fan even though I lived in San Diego. I wanted Jack Murphy Stadium to be opened one last time before it was demolished. It’s great to see Baltimore got it right.
I lived on the corner of 33rd Street and Ednor Road from the fall of 1948 to 1963 and witnessed the many changes from the old wooden structure where polo was played to the single deck concrete stadium of the International League Orioles to the addition of the upper deck when the Colts came to town. The loose gravel east parking lot was where we batted a hard rubber lacrosse ball in a game of 'three flies in' because a baseball would not survive the abuse. frequently we would receive extra tickets for the games from fans coming up the alley behind our home where my brother and I would park cars for the games at a buck each. John Unitas parked his car there once for an Orioles game, but we wouldn't accept any money because of all he had done for Baltimore. WE could safely walk the eight blocks to the Waverly retail area on Greenmount Avenue where we could take in a shoot 'em up on Saturdays at the Waverly Theater or squander our allowance on other things that attracted our attention.
I see my first game there in 1959 when I was 5 years old I watch the Orioles the Colts the stallions and I seen the last game of the first season the Ravens were here a lot of people said it wasn't a pretty ballpark but me and my father thought it was a palace thanks for the video
When I was there they marked where the pitching rubber was. The whole horseshoe is right down around you. Also I can imagine what it was like to be an opposing team trying to score in that endzone.
Only Harrisburg's abc27 sports director, Gregg Mace, can set out to make a home movie with great memories ... and actually "Capture the Spirit of the Thing." Gregg is a Baltimore native and enjoyed games with his father, and now he is sharing his childhood with his son, Kyle. Even in this casual private family video, Gregg Mace, manages to explain everything you need to know about this historic Baltimore landmark and it's past and present. He explains personal memories, gives a factual tour, shares is young memories and professional experiences at Memorial Stadium with his wife and son, Kyle, and even manages to zoom in on an impromptu outburst of fans reenacting the ballparks favorite cheers. By the time Gregg's home video is over ... I feel as though I was just at a game and heading out to the car to head back home on Rt. 83N (which is only blocks away.)
I went to the open before the Stadium was demolished! Went to a number of Oriole and Colts, as well as a Stallions, Most of the Ravens games prior to the move downtown. I went also to the forgotten team that played at Memorial Stadium, the pro-soccer team The Bays and later the Comets!
I'm not from Baltimore. Was the memorial itself destroyed with the rest of the stadium? If so, what a colossal shame; such a beautiful typeface/font used to honor those who served and died.
Nobody talks about being gridlocked into the parking lot across the street! You had to wait until the people around you came out to move their cars before you could leave!
Should have parked your car and taken the bus, it would drop you off EXACTLY across the street from Memorial Stadium next to City College. You could jizz across to the entrance to the stadium! 🤣🤣🤣After the game, you just had to hop on to one of the many busses that would be pre positioned by City College after the game and would transport you to your neighborhood or to a neighborhood where you parked your car LEGALLY!
Fought many a two-city rush hour from Fairfax for dozens and dozens of games. Did they ever completely add chairs to the upper deck and bleachers? I remember sitting on splintered benches at many games.

Being a lifetime resident in the D.C. area, that was one of the significant reasons we never returned to any event there once the 1981 Orioles season
