If I had a nickel for every time a possible G1 toy design Optimus was released this year, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Considering they managed to pull off a way more budget-oriented Missing Link trick for G1 1984 OP, I can see them doing that with G1 1984 Megatron. Still, only time will tell
As for the plastic color it has been confirmed that the photos were done up from an earlier copy, so it isn't the final colors.
Maybe this is something i should look forward to? Because at least this one's kinda interesting because he's G1 toy styled.

The Original G1 Optimus was expensive when it was reissued, I doubt in my mind this fill in my lack of Earthrise Optimus

Tbh I would love to see a G1 toy inspired soundwave, and if core class still exists in the future, i think it would be cool seeing some of the mini bots for that wave.
I didn't grow up with g1, but I have always loved the g1 toy designs, especially after binging the Diaclone commercials. I was afraid of getting the Missing Link figure as I would probably break it. This is more my speed and budget. He will be a fine addition to my growing Diaclone style figure collection.
Yeah, same, from someone who got exposed to TF via Cybertron (2005), the 2007 Bayverse movie & Animated. Those G1 toys had a certain charm that actually felt premium & timeless (all thanks to the die-cast construction, shiny reflective chrome-plating & stickers, rubber wheels).
NGL, I would worry a lot not getting the die-cast, paint & shiny chrome get scratched by accident. This Legacy version is just right: No die-cast, no chrome, less paint apps, I feel much safer & have more fun playing with it.
This seems like it's based moreso on the Optimus seen on the artwork on the back of the G1 boxes-
I wish it came with the pistol that art depicted him holding! Then again, we can just give him Titans Return Blurr's/Chromedome's/brainstorm's blaster because it looks similar enough!
He actually comes included with two different blasters: the toy version & the cartoon version.

Definitely getting this, never planned on getting missing link and was hunting down the g1 cab before so this is a must for me.
I definitely want the Datsun Bros in this style, same for Jazz, the Seekers, ooohh the Dinobots!
G1 toy style Grimlock would go hard, even if they just retool the SS86 one with a new Dinosaur head and paint job.
I only collect Core Class and balked at the price of the Missing Link... This looks pretty darn good as a surrogate and if I see it around for $35CAD I'll probably pick it up to thoroughly scratch that nostalgia itch.
I believe he will be compatible existing trailers. If you look closeely you can see half 5mm ports on his heels. I think he's going to look good with the ER trailer since that was a bit small for the prime it was made for.
I won't be surprised if they do something like an exclusive repack that comes with its own trailer. If it comes with enough extras, like Roller and isn't a reuse of the ER trailer, I don't think I'll mind re-buying it if it happens.
If Megatron got this treatment, since he'll never be a gun, I think it would be cool if they made a 'geewunnified' tank Megatron, maybe something like a modernized G2 Hero Megatron but in G1 colors with the G1 toy's head. they could also do the same thing for 'Bee easily by taking the SS86 figure and giving it a G1 toy head.
That you G1 toy accurate Optimus looks cool but my nick pick is he could've use some little paint for his forarms and his toes like his original G1 counterpart
Repro stickers will probably work, but he does look super bare without paint. Back 15 or 20 years ago (even 10 years ago) he’d have tons of paint and be cheaper. Of course 40 years ago he just had stickers abs limited possibility but that’s the whole point of this release.

I bet Hasbro will be releasing this upcoming Prime figure with the Earthrise trailer (VNR deco), a blue Roller from the Centurion Drone figure, and package it in the classic box as a Wal-Mart exclusive...

Really like this, been looking forward to this since we first got the listing and it also reminds me of Robot masters and Classics Deluxe Optimus prime. Hope Hasbro does a White Ultra magnus from this.
I think i consider missing link as the perfect retrofit of the og toy. But this figure is the best effort for a modern, normal, non collector tier priced representation of the box art instead, rather than the toy.

Looking at this version of G1 prime, it makes me think of the old marvel comics
I kinda hope they did the same with Bumblebee and any other G1 Missing Link characters, but saying that makes me question how this move would impact the sales of the G1 Missing Link figures 🤔🤔🤔
I'd love to see a Nemesis & Shattered Glass repaint of this in Legacy (Nemesis) and Shattered Glass Toyline.
I kinda like it more than ML? while i appreciate Missing Link it's more of a collectors piece, and its price doesn't feel authentic, it should've been Leader price at most imo.
This on the other hand just looks like a fun toy totally worth the $20.

I hate that its a deluxe, but i can deal with it as i like the g1 optimus prime mold.
This might be even better than the Missing Link. Aside from the deco, comparatively to the Missing Link, it appears this thing is styling on that. The proportions are so much better.
It looks like it has the same transformation as the Mattel Hot Wheels Optimus Prime.
