Thank you so much for all the information in this video. I have 3, 6 inch seedlings and was not sure how to take care of them. I appreciate all the great tips ! 😊
Thanks, I get the idea that fruit trees needs to be prune for better growing and fruiting, which when I was young we never do it in our farm. So our jackfruit does not fruit well, although there is one that grows like a mango tree tall, and had made so much fruit in one season, about 10 fruits max. only. The good thing is the wood is a hard wood that we can use it for making columns for ordinary homes in the farm. We did cut one tree due to old age.
i have many jackfruit planted, about 50 trees because i love them eating a lot, but at the same time my family is making money out of that giant and delightful fruit, i love them growing low, love to see the fruits hanging in every branch of it

Dr. Richard, I currently have some jackfruit seedlings. I would like to know when I should start pruning it. Is it similar to pruning mango? If the jackfruit bears fruit on the trunk, how tall should I let the jackfruit grow before pruning it?
Hi, last season I cut the height of the vertical trunk of our jackfruit tree and this season it is showing signs of rot from the top of the cut trunk to about 3 inches down. Is it okay to leave it like that? I would appreciate your advice.
I started a jack fruit plant from seed and had it in a pot for awhile, but it wasn’t growing great. It wasn’t dying, but not growing either. It was in a self watering pot. I just planted it in the ground today and noticed the soil was really wet. Could that have been why it wasn’t growing, because the soil was to wet? Also, do I need to fertilize it?
I love the Jackfruit but I have a question if I plan one of those trees on my yard I wanted to know how big the roots are growing and how far from the house we can plant it because in the future I don't want to have problems on my Foundation

Hi, I have a few questions about jack fruit. 1 Can you plant them in the shade, 2 can you cut them back to 2 meters to keep them shortish, may be even like a bush? Thanks,
I bought my jack fruit tree (J-31) from Fairchild around 9 years ago and never trimmed it. The base is already very open and I get easily 30 or more jack fruits a year. I would like to cut my 15-20 foot tall and 25 ft wide tree way back then keep it trimmed annually. I don't mind missing fruit for one year. Will I harm permanently by doing such an extreme cut? With the extreme cut I have in mind, I basically would cut off almost all the leaves and just have branches.
In one part of the video, you mentioned that we should only do it during the wet and warm season, but then you mentioned September, October and November. In Central Florida, it is so dry and no rain.
In hawaii, the fruits ending around in May, and the weather getting hot star from June, is it good time to do the pruning? You did mentioned the month Aug, Sept and Oct are the good months to do the pruning, but art these month already had the fruits hanging?

useful video thank you....what would be useful is to maybe include a drawing or show in the video what exactly "old spurs" look like and where they are located since the examples in the video seem to be the very obvious whispy looking branches which I really don't see in our tree...or maybe I just need to wait for it to become so? (our jackfruit tree still has fruit on it at the moment so maybe the "spurs" are still small and not quite obvious yet) Also, do you remove all the water sprouts?
Is this pruning happening in January? I have a tree that has small fruit on it, AND it's feeling a little too tall for storm season... if I take it down to 10 feet will it drop the small fruit and have a die back year?
Dr Campbell, I was wondering if you could advise me on this. Since jackfruit form fruit on the main trunk and large branches, if i tip prune a young plant at 1-2 feet off the ground, let it form 3 or 4 main branches/trunks and then prune it as you have demonstrated thereafter, would i get better cropping? I am very tempted to have a smaller tree that has multiple well placed trunks with 1-2 fruit on each.
