- Continuing our exploration of Eastern Oregon from our last video, we head to the Wallowa mountains in Joseph, Oregon. Part of the Wallowa-Whittman National forest, the Wallowa mountains stand magnificently tall and beautiful, and are also regarded as the Swiss alps of Oregon. These snow covered mountains are the primary attraction in this region. We started our exploration here by going on a pedal rail ride for about 2 hrs. This ride takes you from Joseph to Enterprise, along the scenic mountain range, and is definitely one of a kind. Besides the mountains, you can also get greeted by wild animals on this ride, if you get lucky. Out next stop was at the Wallowa lake tramway, taking us to the top of Mt Howard. The gondola ride itself is really pretty and offers birds eye view of these mountains and the Wallowa lake. At the top, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy the views while eating your meal. Also there are a few small hikes which a lot of people tend to explore. The map of these hikes can usually be obtained at the ticket office before boarding. Unfortunately, we could not explore all the hikes, as they were covered in knee deep snow. You will most likely have a better chance from July to Sep on these trails. After coming back down, we decided to go on a kayak ride in the Wallowa lake. With relatively calm waters, and less crowd, we really enjoyed kayaking in the lake. What a great video, you are good guides. I went to scout camp at Wallowa lake when I was young. I remember trying to get swimming merit badge, but the water was so cold you couldn't swim more than 10 feet it seemed like. Can't wait to come back for that bike/rail ride, and other activities. Such beautiful mountains.
