  • Today, we are clearing a short trail through to the Target Range. My Homestead Implements Root Rake Grapple is an excellent implement for the job, but the Kubota LX2610 compact tractor needs a little help from his friend on this one. Cheers!

    Hey there Gord, thanks for another great video as always!! Long-time follower, first time commenter. I’ve been enjoying your channel since shortly before you acquired your LX, and I quickly realized your machine is absolutely perfect for my needs here on the property. Finally found a leftover (unsold) 2023 LX2610 at a local dealer for a great price, and was able to make it happen yesterday. So excited for my darling to arrive, and I can’t thank you enough for all the inspiration over the last few years!! The decision would’ve been much harder if it weren’t for your wealth of knowledge, and thorough explanations of why you chose the options you did. Even growing up with Dad’s BX for 15 years, so many numbers and letters have changed since then, and simply looking at a catalog can definitely be overwhelming. I really appreciate your help along the way, thanks again GP!! Cheers from TN!!! 🔥

    I haven't been active in comments lately but I have been watching! Guy's new.. ahem... "baowwham place" has been a great series so far! Just shows what a couple of motivated friends can do even if they don't have the biggest baddest.
    You've improved a lot on sharpening chains & sawyering, and using the tractor in various ways, we all can't tell you exactly what to do under conditions that don't correspond to ours, but you've been trying everything until you find what works, a lot of channels out there don't do that.
    I saw it suggested in another comment, I'll add the same, if Guy is alright with it you should put a microphone on him. But only if you have the time for editing it.
    I also wish your Stihl dealer could set you up with a couple of chisel chains and a Pferd file or two, you could get the new HEX chain and file for about 100 bucks but Treeson tested that, it's only about 0.2-0.5 seconds faster than normal round even on hopped up 461's, IMO not worth it.
    You've probably seen Treeson's Simington grinder video where a feller called "Big Phil" introduced him to the basics? That guy now has a CZcams channel, "TimberFallingCouple", his newest videos shows how to file or grind chisel chains, the file just have to come back and down more.
    You can modify a Granberg File N Joint for the angles that match the chisel chains, the triangular chisel files fit into the File N Joint, the base (that you hook onto the bar) just needs a few angle grinder licks for the suspended file fixture to clear it and off you go.
    I've registered mutterings about changing out for a larger tractor. I just want to be the voice of "reason" and remind that modern farming, incl forestry/clearing out some heavy forested/bushed areas to enlarge the fields, was largely accomplished much thanks to small RWD tractors. On that premise alone I think you can more than make do.
    When I went from small to big, I had to be much more mindful how I approached cramped spaces, anything larger than your 2610 will struggle more in those tight places, tipping over is a risk anyway, like you said, just have to be careful how you approach terrain features.
    Not to be reminding of our mortality but I'd be much mistaken if your well maintained 2610 is still serviceable by the time any one of us can no longer drive a tractor.
    I think one of those tractor logging/forwarder trailers with legs, crane and winch, if one can be found for your tractor, would be a far wiser investment.

    Team work does the job better and easier. You both did a great job clearing in the woods today. Glad that Gus gave you the added information about accidents can happen and to have you head on paying attention and staying safe as possible. Keep up the great work and the fun too. Fred.

    Great video, GP! Might I suggest trying to convince Guy to let you mic him up? He seems a wealth of knowledge and your mic doesn’t always pick up what he is saying very well. 😎 Cheers!

    Thanks for taking us along on your journey into the forest. You gentlemen put in a lot of work out there, and I'm sure Guy greatly appreciates having such a wonderful neighbor.
    I absolutely love my grapple. Where I live it doesn't snow, so it is my favorite implement and by far the most fun to use. It resides on the front of my tractor most of the time.

    We just traded our LX2610 ROPS for an LX3520 ROPS. A huge difference in several ways. The front axle is wider, and front tires larger too. We had wheel spacers the rear axle on both the LX2610 and on the new tractor. Oh, and the LX3520 loses the annoying whine that the LX2610 is infamous for.

      Hey congrats Dan! That's great. And it must be nice having that whine gone. Enjoy the new wheels!

    Great video. Just remember as well, when you drag with the top half of your grapple, all of that pressure is being consumed into your hydraulic pistons.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 3 měsíci

      Good morning Vince - excellent point and yes, I agree and normally true on most grapples - this Homestead Grapple has a mechanical stop in both directions so the cylinders don't bear the pressure/force - it is a smart feature they build on it. Cheers - enjoy the weekend!

      @GPOutdoors  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Morning! I am very happy with it. I have only had this one, and the HLA grapple, and both are great but I must say overall, I would have to say this one has a few more important build features than the HLA had. Cheers!

      @@rockycreek6665 no , I've seen the damage and loss that happens when it all goes wrong.
      I've seen two babies fall out of shopping carts also, I never want to see that again either , or hear the sound their little head makes on the concrete floor.
